WLtoys 144001 brushless 2845 3930kv test drive and program card. I do a speed test and show a brief overview of my programming card.
I’m currently running the 35a ESC and I’ll experiment with the program card a little more this weekend and get some motor and ESC temps.
I’ll put a card toward the end of the video to the 144001 playlist
These are not affiliate links but these are the components I’m running.
This is the motor I’m using. It’s not a direct fit. The hole spacing on the motor mount is 25mm and the spacing on the motor is 19mm. I drilled two new holes in line with the factory holes so I could use the stock gear. This also allows you to retain the driveshaft bearings which I think helps protect the spur gear.
The connectors on this ESC are one size too small for this motor and you will have to change the connector on the ESC or the motor.

I found that swapping the motor wires around makes it go faster, none of mine match and runs perfect and congratulations on 1k 👍🏻

@@RCModSquad I had the same, until I found out that the motor backwards was my driving forward. Try swapping the directions of the diffs, this equals to reversing the motor polarity.

@@germanrc3355 your correct but swapping two wires on the motor does the same and it just takes a a couple of seconds and it keep the load on the spur gear in the correct direction. Thank you very much and thanks for stopping by. Have a great day and be safe out there!

@@RCModSquad That is true, I just wanted to say that this is also a possible solution. About the spur gear, I didn't know. Thought that reversing the direction might help with equal wear on the gears, as they spin now in the other direction.

@@germanrc3355 it might help with the wear but in some cases it could case a problem with gear deflection. I don’t think it would be a problem on the 144001 since they use a bearing on the driveshaft to help keep alignment. 👍🏻

Very usefull , about thermals, If I don´t need much more top speed than the stock one and I only want a motor and ESC to be less hot and get more reliavility you can say the 2845 3930 is perfect or maybe there is another better motor for this purpose?

Sorry for the delay. I’m not getting notifications on my videos. The 2845 is a bit difficult to put in this car. If you use the stock gears you have to drill new motor holes in the motor mount. The 3930kv is hitting 45 mph so you could drop to a slower KV and get a little more speed than stock. Probably a 3300-3600kv would be good. If you stick to a 3650 it will use the same motor mount holes as the 550 that’s in it.

Really digging your audio device it sounds great, I love how you can walk away from the cam and hear perfect. How does it sync up to your recording device? I might be a buyer. Thanks for sharing

Thanks. There are two ways that I do this. This video was done with the Tascam DR-O7x and an AGD lavalier mic. My other method is the Comica BoomXd-2. It’s wireless and has two mics so I picks up my wife if she says something or you have the option to just use one mic. The absolute best audio is from the Tascam/Lav setup but the easiest is with the wireless setup. With the Tascam you have to sync the audio in your editing program. It’s not that bad IF your editing program supports it but it becomes time consuming if you have a lot of little clips. The Comica wireless setup just plugs into your phone or camera. They also make a single mic unit.

@@jknewb6276 it’s certainly not cheap. I think in the long run it’s worth it. People seem to tolerate bad video over bad audio. I know when I’m in the shop working I listen to RU-vid to give watch time to people I support. If I can’t hear them it’s not very enjoyable. Anyway it might be something to check out in the future. You can just run the AGD lav mic into your phone but you have to be pretty good at cable management so you don’t get tangled up. 😃

Great speed for 2S, looks like you built a reliable setup. If you plan on running tarmac primarily, I would suggest putting in some droop screws and making it a little lower. It really helps the handling and the drive train runs smoother when the dog bones are more horizontal.

I went from stock 550 to this setup, but I honeslty dont like the initial cogging. I spent most of time on the trail go over rocks then on the weekend I have the dogs chase the car. Where you able to remove the coging completely? If I cant remove all together, I will look for good brushed setup.

I never tried to tune all the cogging out. It might come out but for what I do with the car it's not a problem. The 2845 and fairly high KV together was a bit much so a 3650 or a 2845 with a lower KV would work better. One option I haven't tried is using lower gearing. There are a few options for that but I just haven't had much free time for a long time. I do plan to get going in RC again soon I hope.

@RC Modsquad. I have the same esc with program card. I think personally the ecs is designed for crawlers as it has the function of drag brake ect. I don't know if the esc and motor combo has anything to do with each other. I'm waiting on a few escs to arrive some with only four settings. I hope to find a better match for my 3650 kv3900 motor as I feel the esc isn't suitably matched. Or am I going down the wrong path. Should I stick to the theory of amps=power

Thanks for watching! I’d consider this more of a universal ESC. If there’s a function you don’t want just don’t use it. If you’re using the 35a ESC with the 3650 and using a 25c discharge battery it might be ok but if you we’re running a 100c then it would be too much for the ESC. I’m pretty sure that motor can pull more than 35 amps if the battery can supply it. I think a 60a ESC might get you where you want to go. You basically need to supply a little more than the motor needs to get full speed out of the motor. What’s the KV of your motor and are you running the stock gears?

@@RCModSquad hi ModSquad thanks for the reply. It's kinda weird as what you wrote it pretty much what I'm trying to run. It's a 3900KV/3650 with stock gearing. 60amp esc same as your blue one. Also running 2200mah 25c battery. I turn off what I don't want on the esc yet I feel it lacks that umph! Plus minor cogging but if I let the esc almost charge with little throttle it kinda by passes the cogging. I'm learning day by day,I feel that the car is abit highly geared. So lower kv more torque if I get the amps right I've heard you can get the same as higher kv motor.

I read the max amp intake of this motor is 60amp so using 35amp esc would be OK as u used with it ? doesn't 60amps esc would be more ok for it?? kindly clear what amp esc can I use and will be OK with it... I only wana run it with 2s..

That’s what I like most on this car. You can run is stock or go crazy with mods. I did the 2845 just because I hadn’t seen anyone go that direction with it yet. Hello. I have a wltoys 124019 and I want to mount a brushless motor. I saw that you have the original pinion with 27 teeth but I will use the smaller holes in the motor support (16mm) with a 15 tooth pinion. (There is also the possibility of 17 teeth) I want to buy the hoby 2845 surpass motor but I am undecided about the kV !! I was in doubt between 3930kv or 4370kv. what do you recommends me? second question for 15/17 teeth which kV do you recommend for battery 2s and which kV do you recommend for battery 3s? thanks

Hello Carlos! I drilled new holes so I could run the 27t pinion. I’m getting 45-ish MPH on 2s. This is running a 3930kv. If you go to the 15t or 17t it will reduce your speed by a significant amount. I’m not sure which pinion will match best. You may need to slot the holes to get your mesh correct. I would think you would be better with the 4370KV motor. The difference between 15t and 17t is something you will have to try. Being geared down that much you should be fine on 2s or 3s with either choice.

Great test on the new 2845 motor, good speed on round 2 testing, makes me wonder if I could get more top end speed out of the MZ GS 1004 buggy I converted to a 2845 recently. I have one of those other program cards you mentioned, but I like the look of this one as it has many more options, cheers to 1k David 👍😎🍻

Amazon link showed these esc program cards for about $28AU bucks shipped to OZ from USA which will take some time, so ended up just buying one just then for $11AU from eBay, I don't mind waiting 3 weeks or so for it from China! In the meantime I'll play around with the Gool RC one I have, thanks again for sharing David 👍

I had a similar problem when I swamped out my 540 to a 550 to reverse polarity on the wires to slow forward and fast reverse...

@@RCModSquad Scared me to I thought motor was a joke... But you should be able to get some really good speed out of that RC..... Just keep in mind that if you get it to go even faster and just one crash could bend the entire chassis and it won't be as good anymore....

I busted the phillip screw on the motor mount in my WLtoys 144001. I tried to heat the screw with my soldering iron, but it still won't budge. Had to order motor mount so I can just install my brushless motor into it.

Once a screwdriver slips the first time it’s pretty much over to get it out without a drill. If you drill them out there is usually enough of the screw left to grab with pliers and remove.

Maybe you connect the wires wrong!many 144001 beginners with brushless have the same problem.

Do you have to change the gearing use the gear from the smaller wltoys cart 15:2 then it will work but you have to up the RPMs use a 4500 KV motor

Robert Waters you could do that too but the motor mount isn’t adjustable for heat spacing. If you change to an adjustable motor mount you lose the driveshaft support bearings. I think this would cause a failure in the spur gear.

It’s easy to just swap two wires. If I had hit the throttle in reverse I would have noticed it before the first speed run.

If the card is like Hobbywing, the highlighted values are the default, so if you reset the ESC it should be set to those.

Thanks my brother! I’ll at least need to try it on 3s but it’s plenty fast to run like it is. I didn’t have much light so the video wasn’t that good but it was lifting the front tires on 2s. Have a great day and be safe out there!

I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking about. If you’re talking about the two little plastic pieces that hold the pins for the rear arm, you just remove the two screws in the aluminum plate in those little plastic pieces push out. If that’s not what you’re talking about let me know.

+Rui M You’re welcome! The two screws in the aluminum plate need to come out then pull the plate off. The plate looks kinda like a bumper.

Rui M if the pins are not bent they will slide right out after the aluminum plate is removed.

Either one is good. If you just want to control one car then the DumboRC is great and cheaper. The Radiolink is good if you have a lot of cars. It has a 10 car memory that holds all your adjustments for each car. You just have to add a new receiver to each car. The downside to this is if a friend shows up and you want them to drive one of the other cars at the same time. The Radiolink also has other advantages such as variable rates and end points. It’s overall a great radio. I have one of my 144001 cars on the DumboRC just in case someone shows up and the others as I mod them will all go on the Radiolink. They both have plenty of range.

+DialupGaming sorry I didn’t see this until today. You may need to swap two wires on the motor then reverse the throttle on the radio.

Greetings sir hope u r fine... Actually I also wana upgrade my buggy with this same 2845 3930kv motor but something is confusing me... I read the max amp intake of this motor is 60amp so using 35amp esc would be OK as u used with it ? doesn't 60amps esc would be more ok for it?? kindly clear what amp esc can be OK with it... I only wana run it with 2s battery....

Sorry for the delay, I’m not getting all my comments right now. Using a smaller amp ESC won’t hurt the motor. As long as the ESC doesn’t get to hot it’s ok. It would probably have no problems on 2s.
