Sophie Cunningham took exception to Brittney Sykes' VERY physical defense & retaliated with a backhand smack/slap to the face. Sykes' teammate Amanda Zahui B stepped in to help calm down Sykes. After the officials reviewed it, they gave Cunningham a technical foul. The players dap each other up after initially giving stares at each other.

@@itsmachineguntonionsoundcl8844 I don’t think anyone is truly expecting equal pay. I think they’re just tryna get an equal percentage of the revenue made by the WNBA as the men get from the NBA. Which would still be a drastically lower dollar amount but I think that’s valid. I think currently 55% of the money made by the NBA goes to the players while for the WNBA it’s like 22%

I agree, But both were accidents.. The first off the screen, she just had her hands high trying to get thru while the ball handler tried to pin her into the screen. She had to get thru that screen or it was a free lane.. The second, the ball handler was guarding the ball by pushing the defenders arm with her forearm.. The defender moved her arm as the ball handler came up with the arm to get the defenders arm off the ball.. This is how they should play to be honest.. NBA 80s-90s

Wrong. There was a bodycheck, not a slap, at the top of the key as the offensive player tried to get over the screen. They called the foul.

@Infomir Connection breaks this play down precisely. And also explains what physicality should be allowed in basketball and where to draw lines. Without these minimal and nonviolent allowances defending (especially elite offensive players that are allowed to stretch offensive rules) is impossible - as is evident in the NBA regular season today. Notice 2 things that support this: players with elite defender status are allowed to be more physical and it's harder to score in the playoffs largely due to looser officiating that permits more physical defending. But let's be clear, im advocating physicality not violence. Basketball is not and should never be a violent sport. But basketball is and should be a contact sport.

Yeah, it's crazy...like hits her shoulder, face, arm, wrist, leg...grabbing and swatting her the whole time then has a Look....the backhand looked more of just pushing her away. Probably got tagged because she was under her armpit getting that WnbaQttp+ sniff action. It almost looked like a commercial for getting rid of jock itch. And the announcers didn't seem to say anything about the 3 to 4 fouls. We just get to hear how women are more tougher than men amd the girls play harder than anyone ever played before playing games you play?!?

The defender banged into the girl setting the pick and then was grabbing at Cunningham the whole way to the basket. If the referees called any of the early fouls then the late foul would never have happened. Basketball is supposed to be NO CONTACT.

If the officials had called a foul (they had two opportunities on sykes), that rough play wouldn't have happened as the play would have stopped.

Agree,. If they don't want that stuff to develop they could have called a foul when she ran through the pick up top or when she was grabbing on the way towards the basket. She never really had good position. Quite frankly the one they say "backhanded" the other probably just had enough and was trying to push her away. If you play agressive D you can't be pissed when somebnody pushes back. If the officials let much of the game go on like that they really helped create that.

That's what happens in any sports when referees don't apply the rules (call fouls in basket ball). Players apply their own justice and the game/race/fight suffers.

They should lower the rim to like 8 feet, each free throws is 2 points and 5 feet closer to the basket, normal basket 3, 3 pointers are now 4 points each and 10 feet closer. Also each foul is checked, rechecked and debated by the refs for infractions and charge each offenders.
