After a brief slide touting the Snug Harbor Cultural Center on Staten Island, here's the beginning of "The First Estate: Religion in Review," a public affairs program produced by WNBC, New York City's channel 4. Hosted and produced by Dr. Russell Barber, it ran from 1973 until 1990, canceled after GE cut the station's budget for public service-type programming. In this episode, aired in July 1986, the guest is Michael Gallagher, film reviewer for the Catholic Church. This is slightly edited by me, as the segment I have is longer and includes film clips from "Agnes of God" and Godard's "Hail Mary." No rights held or implied. (If you'd like this video removed for copyright reasons, please contact me rather than notifying RU-vid, I will gladly take it down from this channel.) Part of this is on compilation 86 at oldtvads.blogspot.com...

The Snug Harbor Cultural Center plug during the station ID before the program start was voiced by Bill Wolff of "Another World," and Roger Tuttle V/O'd the show open.

The globe at the beginning looks like the same one 4 did to open their editorials back in the day.

Hugo Faces But at least I know through research that the V/O over the Snug Harbor slide is the iconic Bill Wolfe, who not only was a well-known WNBC booth announcer, but the long time announcer for ANOTHER WOOOUUURRRLLDD (Another World).
