Oh, for those not on the know, the dates on DuMont's EXPERIMENTAL TV STATION is probably slightly earlier than stated since the FCC gave DuMont License #5 in 1944 during WWII. Television in US wasn't blocked for years as in UK, as it was only blocked for like 3 months in the earlier part (December 1941 through app. March 1942) of US involvement. US Government decided to take back on the air those Licenses #s 1-3 for CIVIL DEFENSE and for entertainment of the wounded in hospitals in NY and Philadelphia for
Needs: the "F5X" with the return of the Metromedia 5, and the day-glo F5X from the mid-'90s (with Broadway font). Also, there was a version of the 2000s Fox 5 that came between the blue and red ones. I forget the name of the film, but it can be seen in a Morgan Freeman movie of the time.
It is is odd that THEY "END" WHERE THEY'VE STARTED. The station was turned on in the mid-late '30s by Mr. Allen B. Dumont (ABD, his station's commercial call sign was named after his initials) as an experimental station on Channel 4 in New Jersey and broadcasts today as (WNYW-DT) Fox5 from the building (shared with WWOR-DT My9) in NYC that same Mr. Dumont (it's still called after him) ran his network while it lasted (1946-56).
rockvilleraven - WTTG, some of the OLDEST CALL SIGN LETTERS ON TV (WRGB 6 near Albany, NY being the oldest, licensed to GE in 1942, also the initials of one of their engineers).
WNYW5 (Fox New York) WABD (W American Broadcast of DuMont) [1944 - 1956] WNEW (W NEW York) by MetroMedia [1956 - 1986] WNYW (W New York Watchers) since 1986.
Rudy Iraheta shut up WAGA was with CBS from 1949 until December 11,1994 because of the big switch. God you’re so delusional with the misinformation it’s pathetic do it again and it’s gonna be reported as spam
I don't like FOX and FOX Broadcasting Company and FOX Television Stations because of the hostile takeovers of Rupert Murdoch and the News Corporation. Turn back to the Independent Stations owned by Metromedia WNEW-TV Channel 5 York.
