The reworked version with video scenes from ww1 (the song itself is from the 50s/ 60s, but the atmosphere fits to ww1 too).
Wo alle Straßen enden (Lied der Legionäre) with the original title "Marsch der Verdammten" is a German foreign legion song from the 50s or 60s composed by Horst Heinz Henning.

The reworked version with video scenes, I hope you like it! WW1 always has this tragic atmosphere, where great nations destroyed each other and the order of Europe forever. Wir sind verloren isn't easy to translate, even tho it looks easy. It could be: We are lost or doomed or forlorn or even We are done for.

@@frederickiiprussia7699 "to see that these soldiers have gone through hell and they have accepted that they wont return from it" Implying the song is real and they did feel that When in reality we know most felt "betrayed" and "backstabbed" and actually wanted to keep fighting...in other ways..but still fight. No defeatism like in this song.
@frederickiiprussia7699
@frederickiiprussia7699 3 года назад
@@freedomordeath89 while yes it is true soldiers did feel betrayed, the sentiment was more prevelant after 1916 when it had become clear the war wasnt going to be quick. Initially the situation was ironic, the leaders of Germany, Russia, Britain didnt actually want to go to war but during the intial-mid phase of the war the soldiers believed they were fighting to protect their nation. Even during the mass feeling of defeatism when soldiers felt doomed they still accepted the harsh reality, switching from wanting to fight to surviving. As for the song, it does exist even if it isnt original otherwise we wouldn't be in an imaginary commets section for a nonexistent music video.

Even though WWII had more casualties than WWI, I think WWI was more messed up with the eerie atmosphere of No Man's Land, the weapons used like Flamethrowers and Mustard/Chlorine Gas which can do a number on the Human body, and staying in a muddy trench that reeks of corpses and disease. Must've been terrifying to be a teen in the 1910's knowing you'd most likely get sent to hell on earth.

I am a little bit late but let me tell you, you did a great job with the atmosphere of this video. I have seen countless times since a young age these type of footages and they never fail to strike me deep inside. This is probably because the whole WW1 seems so unfair; young men being sacrified for their countries' desire of vengeance and interests. This is so old yet this war still haunts our countries. Here in France, even in the smallest village there is at least one "monument aux morts" which is a monument for the dead men, their names are written on it and every 11th November in my village the local orchestra plays in front of it and leaves a wreath of flower with the national flag. They deserve it. I wonder if the other European countries have this tradition. As for the Germans who died on the French soil, they are buried and have a black cross with sometimes their name written on it, there is one in my village too and I am glad they are being respected. I often walk by and their part of the cemetery is clean, there are some trees and the grass is well-maintained, it feels really peaceful and calm. At least even if they are far away from their fatherland their bodies and memories are not being mistreated.

Actually, it was the Bavarians and Saxons they got along with and didn't wish to fight them. They would send them messages saying something along the line of this "We are Saxons, you are Anglo-Saxon. You aim high and we will as well" It was after they surrendered and the British pushing further into Europe is where sympathies for the enemy in the war was stretched super thin They had to deal with the Prussians after the Bavarian and Saxon troops surrendered. The Prussians were absolutely relentless and the Allied forces grew to treat them with animosity at the later stages of the war. Some people I talked to speculate that it was whiny commanders and aristocrats that ended the semi-peaceful arrangements between both sides of the conflict I think it was rather that the war was dragging on, people started getting weary of the conflict and cared for nothing else. At that point moralities and empathy is stripped away on both sides. There's a reason Germany was de-fanged as much as it was after the war. They fought like absolute hell when it was Prussian troops defending their home. That kind of devotion to fighting to the bitter end was rather scary to other nations. This very thing would later manifest in a very horrible form decades later.

I think this song explains very well the despair and the pain of a soldier in the war, just imagine. You are a soldier, at the beginning you were thinking that you were fighting for your homeland, but now, submerged in the muddy trenches, full of rats, hearing the bombardments and smelling the blood and the dead bodies of the soldiers, with no distinctions of army, you are confused, waiting until the next assault. There is only you, your rifle and your comrades. You are lost in this madness called WAR, and problably you will never return from it. Edit: i have corrected the spelling errors

Agreed, better if the war didn't even occur itself Russia is mostly to blame for mobilizing their army on German-AustroHungarian border first, to protect "their fellow slavs" in Serbia, since Austro-Hungarian forces began attacking Belgrade Which inevitably led to Germany honoring its alliance with Austria-Hungary & mobilizing also Which caused France to honor its alliance with Russia, mobilizing on German border also. Germany-Russia-France should have just never got involved with the Balkans "One day the great European war will come out of some damned foolish thing in the Balkans. "....and as we make our way through the nomans-land we come across a shallow shelll hole where a young comrade lies. He stares at us with wide open eyes. Begging for help without saying. At his cheek the yellowish colour of death is seen. So we march along him and greet him with our look. He slowly grabs his coat and put it over his head. And so he felt silent." ... from WW1 diary

I like this video and this could apply to any army of soldiers in the World; all have the feelings before the battle and the sad time to write the letters to the loved ones before the attack... Thank you Sir, for the moving film.
