I own a 2019 RE Interceptor, one of the earliest models since its launch in Nov 2018. Purchased in Jan 2019, it initially had a wobbling issue above 100 kmph. Surprisingly, a simple fix resolved it. A puncture led me to a local tyre shop, where I discovered the tube was incorrect for an 18-inch rim, likely intended for a Honda Unicorn or Shine. Changing to the correct size tube eradicated the wobble, even at speeds of 160 kmph. Check your front tube size - it should be 100/90/18.
Wow! Thank you for telling me this information. If only I knew this back in 2022. And if only I had not got the outex tubeless kit installed on it. 🙏🏽 I will pin this comment so that more people can see this solution.
Wow 🤩 A new solution for wobble issue ! You fought out against all the demons, you might be the risen angel 👼 for all the 650 twins folks out there ! Thanks for this video. 👏
I've test driven continental gt and interceptor too, and faced this issue in both of them, fews years back and shared this with showroom owner as well, but nobody looked at this seriously and eventually i never got a chance to make my mind in buying this bike. But thanks to you, now i can look forward to it. Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing this valuable feedback. The Interceptor 650 now comes with Ceat Tyres, but they are not tubeless. Otherwise I’d have gone with them only. Sad that people at RE showrooms will not look into this as their main goal is always going to be sales. Best to write to RE directly and sharing video feedback. I’ll try this once and address this issue.
I am very much interested for this bike, but this wobbling issue and tubeless things are stopping me . Can't drag 200kg punctured bike , few practical issue should hav been solved by RE
@@nirnaynayak2445 Just go for it. The bike is just awesome. I bought it 6 mo ths back and clocked close to 6500 kms. Yes I encountered the wobble after my 1st puncture, wheel alignment was the issue. Took good amount of time for RE to sort out. But this should not stop you from buying this beast. I still never regret buying this beautiful beast. I even tour on this machine. 👌👌👌
Questions come to mind: 1) Did you check the balance of both wheels? The tires might have had uneven mass distribution, which manifested in a wobble as the rubber gradually wore down. 2) Did you check the lateral runout of both wheels with a dial indicator? The tire may have gotten distorted with wear, or the rims may have gone non-planar or non-perpendicular with the axis of rotation. 3) Did you check the radial runout of both wheels with a dial indicator? The over-tightening of a spoke points to this having been a problem the mechanic found. 4) Was the steering quicker when you went to tubeless tires?
Wow! thank you for these insights. I will pin this comment so others can also benefit from it. I checked the balance on both wheels, it was fine. 2 and 3, yes and yes, Measured the depth of tyre, it was worn out. The steering is now better. Thank you for commenting and for watching the video!
@@SrinivasGanesh - Your mention of an Outex tubeless conversion is the 1st report (in English) that I've seen. Do you recall what the immediate effect was on the steering? Was it easier to initiate and/or complete a turn? Did the front wheel follow road bumps better, i.e. with less time spent airborne or unloaded? Did you sense more control during high speed bumpy turns?
@@daveinwla6360 yep. The outex tubless conversion, in my opinion makes the ride much smoother and plush. It is definitely easier to take turns. Thank you for your comment and for watching the video!
Great video mate, I had the exact same problem with my StreetTwin. A new front tyre solved the issue. 1st tyre OEM made in Brazil. 2nd tyre made in Indonesia. Both Pirelli Phantom. I can imagine how relieved you must have felt once the problem was solved. 👍
Looks like the wobbling is due to eventual uneven wear in the tyres. Do keep us posted on your Timsun Tyres wear and tear. Long term review on these would be helpful
I feel the pain bro. Purchased alloy wheels, then thought it was too heavy for tyres to replaced with spoke wheel. Same coneset bearing test, Fork oil test. In all the hassle I almost spent the amount I would got the tyres for.... And to add to all this was the hassle and pain to get it fixed. Thank you for the videos bro. I'll go for mrf tyres after my int completes 7-8K on my pireeli ones.
Thank you for enlightening us! I currently have the same issue now with the phantoms on my Continental GT650. Going fornnew tires next week after watching this ⚡️⚡️😆😆
Srinivas again....love it the way u do the root cause analysis and the information is absolutely beneficial for fellow owners. Thank you. Happy and safe riding. ✌
The way you present the problem, and the way you make a step by step explanation really made me watch it til the end, because it could really be any of these issues, I’m currently having this on my classic 500, i just put a new front tire but the rear is old, maybe this could be the issue, or maybe not hhahahaah, but this video gave me knowledge of what to do. Keep the good work
I own an interceptor 2022 model, I actually bought it after watching your videos Sri, even this one. I didn't experience any wobbling issues on my interceptor but now after 5000kms I am having it on my bike as well, I have the stock ceat tyres installed, I have reported it to Re service center and they weren't able to do anything about it as well. I do like these ceat tyres.. their grip and everything is pretty good but after watching this video again I think ill change it after a couple of thousand kilometres or so because this wobbling issue is very irritating
Congratulations on getting the bike!! Wohoo! But don’t let this wobbling issue let you down. Just be careful and have fun while riding the bike! Thank you for watching my videos! You rock!
@@SrinivasGaneshSame here. My bike has Ceat tires as stock, and I'm facing the same wobbling issue that started at 5500 Kms. RE service centers are not even checking it. I'll try Timsun, but the front tyres are mostly out of stock. Can you suggest any other tire options and websites to buy from?
This is for most detailed video on interception wobbling issue, i also own one and literally frustrated all the time because of wobbling issue, in my case tyres and alignment was issue, thanks to you 🤝
A very informative video. Root cause analysis and trial & error elimination process for wobbling issue. Finally sorted, congrats and keep riding safe.. Do look for uneven wear on the tread pattern of both tyres..
Felt good ... reason ..... realistically done 👍🏿 keep rolling brother 🤘 i really appreciate all the pain u took it so nicely... great job on ur patience ☺️
Now that I have reached 9k kms - I have suddenly started getting the wobble. I was also very happy that, no wobble issues. I will mostly get the RE alloys and the new set of tyres Saving :)
Dude i love the way you talk! Its very clear and you don't too fast like most indian youtuber do which makes me need to rewind some portion of the video or just slow it down.
Thanks for that video Can I know what problems or issues you faced by putting on 150 section instead of the stock 130 And if it's safe and advisable to do so. Does it sit comfortably between the sprocket and swing arm ? Is there any scrapping or brushing against the swingarm ? Notice any difference in the fuel economy as well as the top speed ?
Problems? No problems, slight wider rear tyre meaning more contact patch on the road for better traction. It is very much safe to do so. It sits comfortably between the sprocket and the swing arm. Fuel consumption remains unchanged at 24-25 kmpl in city under ideal conditions. I’m not that enthusiastic in reaching top speed. I whole heartedly believe in cruising at under 120 kmph. People should be able to see what I ride as opposed to them having a discomfort in their ears and seeing only a blur. 😎👍🏽 thank you for watching the video!
The bike has a very short rake .This helps with the fast responsive cornering but inherently push's the envelope against stability. The bike comes with the tubes raised 12 mm in the triple trees.Raising the trees until the the caps are flush really does help the bikes stability.
@@SrinivasGanesh could you explain the above logic ? I didn't understand. Is it replacing the stock exhaust brings instability and hence wobble comes??
Hi Sri. Great video. A few comments and questions I had: 1. 17 inch front alloys isn't feasible because of brake calipers and disc mismatch anyway. Did some research on it. 2. Can you please specify the required tyre pressures for these. 3. When we change the tyre size, do we need some adjustments in suspension setup too? 4. Outex is a bit expensive, what are your thoughts on way2speed conversion kit? 5. If we get the conversation kit, how can we assure that we don't face the air deflation issue? Would love your response on these. Thanks.
Required tyre pressure as stated on timsun website is 40 front 40 rear. But I use 39 in front. I don't believe any adjustment is required in suspension, unless ofcourse you are planning on touring with luggage. Way2Speed is okay, I just don't really think that it is levelled enough, but it is surely good. Outex was a personal preference. Nothing wrong with way2speed. you won't face air deflation issue at all, unless you take it a local mechanic, don't tell him you have outex installed and ask him to tighten the spokes. The spokes will then disrupt the tape on the inside, you wheel, however now balanced, will be leaking air that you won't even know about. And that is what I have talked about in this video.
Quick question mate, did you check in high speeds around 150-160km of course with hands on the handlebar, because my continental gt 650 will start wobbling after i cross 140km
@@SrinivasGanesh I made a mistake. I am actually running 17 rear and 18 front. I swapped the rear rim to the front for the new wider profile tyre and replaced the rear with a Racing Boy 17" 4.50 rim. Don't ask me why i did that i am new to motorcycles(clueless) and this is a common and popular mod amongst the twin riders here in Thailand so I went along with it. Lol. Good thing is, it turned out good(beginner's luck lol). Bike feels more eager to lean and those mt60rs give me alot more confidence than the stock pirellis. Wobbling went away like magic. Thank God. The stance of the bike changed a little. More aggressive now imho. Total damage was less than 500 dollars all in. 1 rim, tyres front and rear and balancing, alignment. It was alot of work. But worth it. :)
Hello. I really like the tires you put on the back. But I have the same issue and I have less than a thousand miles. 750 to be exact. I have checked head bearing torque which is the only thing I bought of. Actually considering putting a steering stabilizer on
Hey! Great in-depth video. I have a weird and different issue. My bike does not wobble(handle bar almost vibrating) at 100kmph. But as soon as I hit 130-140kmph, the front starts to wobble(in a slow motion). I do not know how this problem is originating.
Sometimes the problem is with the wheel's balance. They do this every time they change the tires, so perhaps it wasn't the tire after all. I've heard they don't do the balancing properly at the factory.
Ceat has less wobbles, but they are tubed. Meaning if you have an outex kit installed or a way2speed solution put to your rims, the air would still escape, since the tyres do not have a tubeless profile. But I'll ask around more about these tyres.
Hi guys, just confirming that even the newer bikes coming in with CEAT have wobbling issues. I've barely done around 3-4k kms on my bike and the issue has been there for the last couple of thousand kms. Thanks Sri for your video, looking forward to changing the tyres asap, before the monsoons hit Mumbai. I absolutely hate the current one's, what would you recommend for a new set?
@@rish1102 Thank you so much for this insight. yes Changing the tyres will solve the issue. I guess this issue is in select batches of bad tyres. And changing that will solve the issue. Keep us posted Rishab!
Thank you for this informative content! Front suspension on your interceptor seems to be adjustable. Have you used some pre load adjustors or have you changed the complete front suspension?
Funny this came up in my feed, I picked up a Honda CBF1000 in the UK recently and they all wobble like this when you take your hands off the bars. Wonder if it's the same cause! I think if a bike is a bit tail-heavy it exacerbates issues you see from tyre wear etc.
It's just the wheel alignment issue caused by the shope who made your spoked wheels run tubeless tyres or the imbalance of mass caused when you solved the two puncher's
Same experience at my end Changed tyre (from Pirelli to Ceat) And wobble was gone Although grip of Ceat is questionable at times But ceat does the job if you ride it sanely
This is a perfectly needy video... I've been having the wobbling issue as well... I did all of the above things you said... 😂 And there were no video on it... At the time... The cones adjustment bettered the wobbling from worse to okay... Finally came to know that it was the tyres... The heavy load of the motorcycle takes a toll on the tyres....... I'm managing with the stock wheel for now... But replacing the tyres seem to be the solution if all the problem persists after all the previous solution attempts.
Hello Sri Ji, I'm planning to get both my tyres changed, I would like to know : 1.If going to 150 rear tyre from 130 changes the acceleration in any way 2. Do you see any difference when there are twisties and you're leaning around corners? 3. Can these do off road to some extent?
Changing the tyres from 130 to 150 section does not affect the acceleration. They performed well in little off-roading. Though I must tell you something that you probably know already. This motorcycle is not meant to be ridden off-road. It’s a road/ city bike. Lets talk off-road touring - Interceptor 650 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5-Va7pW3p94.html There’s an entire series on me off-roading with this motorcycle in Spiti. Do check it out.
Taking my Intercetor in this week to have a new ECU fitted under Warrantee. The bike cuts-out randomly. The dealer has reflashed the original ECU twice and each time assured me all was fine, but it wasn't. There's loads on the internet about fuel relays and the huge amount of dielectric grease on the connectors, but the dealer seems certain it's the ECU itself. Thank god for the Warrantee. Bet the ECU is worth as much as the rest of the bike put together!
I recently experienced wobbling on my almost new (2000 kms clocked a few days back). This has never happened while riding with a pillion and I have carefully tested it at 60,80 and 100 kmph. On our recent trip (myself, same pillion and around 30kg of luggage), I noticed wobbling at 80kmph and haven't been able to understand the reason. As we are back now, I am yet to try out again and see if the wobbling still exists (with the pillion but without the luggage). A little context before I ask you this... Could the luggage be the reason for wobbling?
There could be one of the reasons that I point out in the video, could be because of the unevenness of the road as well. Luggage could be a reason as well, that is only if they were not balanced, or weighed differently on either sides. Please keep us posted if you were able to find the reason.
Hey! Thinking to go for a thicker grade suspension oil instead of upgrading the entire setup. Would you suggest it , also would it stop the wobbling issue ?
wobbling can be due to several reasons like I pointed out in this video. Having a thicker oil can make the suspension stiff. no doubt but it will remain that ways. If you really want it, then by all means, go for it.
Hi, the 6th thing would have been re-grease and re-torque the trailing arm bearings. Another thing would be upgrade the rear shock absorbers. There have been motorcycles manufactured where the rear of the bike would wag the front. Hope you wobble stays cured.
Hello, I have clocked 13.5k kms on my interceptor.. The tyre look good .. but they started to wobble after crossing 80kmph(leaving both the hands). Could you suggest me anything with your experience.. I have taken the bike to SVC, they tuned the wheel, checked the foundation bolts.. said they were loose and now the issue is solved, but again.. that is still persisting.. Could you help me out
Use the tyre depth measuring tool to measure the tyre depth. Many a time the tyres 'look' good but are not. So that is the only sure shot way to find out. If the tool says the tyre is worn out then you know the solution.
Interesting observations; I know the post is old now but I’m experiencing similar issues, although not side to side wobbles but rather up and down bouncing, similar to constantly driving over small undulations. Especially noticeable on new smooth road surfaces. My Interceptor has only travelled 1500km, purchased slightly used. Started by balancing the front wheel-no change. After watching several videos decided to get new tyres- put on brand new Michelin Road Classics front and back, balanced and problem still persist. Today I’m taking the bike to a mechanic who can true spoked wheels, but my concern is I’ve seen some videos of the latest Interceptor with alloy tubeless wheels doing the same. Really want to get to the bottom of this-disappointing to the point I’m considering selling this otherwise perfect bike.
@@SrinivasGanesh yes that was the first thing I’ve done to Michelin road classic - very good tyres but not changed the up and down bouncy feel. Also upgraded front suspension with full YSS kit and still no good. Both front and rear rims have a high spot in them, they adjusted the spokes and it’s slightly better but still not 100%. I think I’ll switch to the new cast alloy tubeless rims as a last resort. It’s a shame RE not paying attention to these details as the bike is really good otherwise
@@Ciganyfiu These problems are only in a select few models. :( It is a manufacturing defect indeed. Had this not been a second hand motorcycle you could have claimed it in warranty. :( There are now alloy wheels for Int650 and Cont GT 650)
Thank you for the video. In your case tyres are the issue but in my case I am having Ceat tyres and clocked 10k kms on my Int650 facing this wobbing issues. As you mentioned, should I go for 1.Change the tyres? 2.Get the wheels aligned? So confused now..Pls help!
Getting the wheels aligned is always a cheaper alternative. If the problem is solved by it then great. If not then only thing left is changing the rubber. :)
today i gave my interceptor in service for this wobbling issue, seems like they were aware of this issue in this vehicle very much so they first replaced the part TAPERED ROLLER BEARING - 30205 and the issue got resolved.. I tried test riding 100kmph and 120 speeds and no wobbling. Finally happy to share this news. This part replacement worked in my case 😅 for your information.
Personally if I had a wobble like that allways check the cost free solutions first. Air, tyre weights (blance) and spoke flex. Once checked them and not the issue tyre quality and alignment. The fork oil levels I wouldn't of had tested and as there a few simple cost free checks you can do to see of you lost any oil in forks with testing the dive and rebound. And headstock bearing if you put bike on centre stand you grab the front wheel you can feel for flex at both dead stops..
Yep did all of those, but unfortunately you are not allowed to make a video inside the service station, I used what ever video evidence I could to share my experience with you guys. :)
Thanku so much this wobbling issue scenario all over the RU-vid on interceptor was making me nervous about buying this bike your video was thoroughly made on what can cause this issue and now i am satisfied that its. Not a big deal and can be solved quite easily
OMG !!, I had the same issue of tires losing air pressure very quickly. Recently I had the wheel aligned for completely different reason, and now I think the issue is gone.
first guess i had from the start: how are your tyres? old ones tend to get out of shape (no longer ovals). can i ask you what handlebar did u install? it looks more straight than the original. also i like it being black :) cheers from Italy
Hello sir. It was pleasure watching the whole video nice presentation. Please help me solve one doubt. Did you felt the wobble even a little bit again after changing the tyres. What about when you reached on top speeds or bad roads. It will be very helpful.🎉🎉
I just got my continental a month ago and it's had wobbling at high speeds. But I noticed it's not constant, it's imperfections in the road. I can literally feel everything. My first thought that made sense was suspension. Anything else would happen constantly. Just don't want to buy new suspension lol
As the people at RE service centre told me, "If the suspensions aren't leaking any oil, then they are good". You don't have to change the suspensions. Unless you want to milk the performance out of your 650 like most 650 owners out there. Including myself. :P ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MdbrVvD8xak.html
It's not an issue, this is normal for many bikes. Your arms are effective steering dampers. It can vary with the tyre brand but it's a function of the geometry of the bike. It's a compromise between sharp steering and stability that every designer works with. The Enfield is set up for sharper steering. The answer is don't let go of the bars, why would you. Don't worry about it and enjoy the ride.
It is on select batch of motorcycles. And primarily due to the front tyre. It will start to happen after 7-8k kms, or in some cases even after 3k kms. But get the tyres changed under warranty and you're good.
Mainly for the normal users with tube , it's just the wheel alignment just do it at a good person who's knows to do it because re people'don't know it do the wheel alignment every 12 k kms and you are good to go
Since I have outex kit installed not anyone can do the wheel alignment on my motorcycle. Due the spokes, and the outex tape installed inside, air will leak from the spokes, I have addressed this issue in the video too.
Update of my Wobbling 650 : after 3 years my Bike suddenly started Wobbling. I went to the showroom let them check and nothing happened. But after 6-7 months I changed my front tyres too but it still didn't help, it was still wobbling, But last week i changed my Interceptor 650 Bolt Bearing Racer, and suddenly the wobbling never occurred anymore. It was stable as a Rock.
Good video, very informative and helpful. Thanks a ton! Next time can you please keep the background music low? It is a disturbance in such a good narration.
Mod the bike to 17inch alloy wheels and wider also. Rear 160 front 120. Rear is lighter by 4kg and front by 700 grams. Now it corners like its on rails sport bike handling. No more wobble wobble. Handling is agile and lighter. Accelerate and brake better too. And no more inner tube tire😂. Very easy to find 17” tires everywhere. Best mod so farr -
Hello there, Tell me about it. I have gone through all that you have mentioned till I got my tires changed to CEAT front n rear, i was assured the problem is sorted for good but not really. After riding about 1600 km post replacement of new tires, the wobbling surfaced again and finally, RE accepts the fact that cone set adjustment needs to be done as n when you get wobble though they say post adjustment it would last up to 3-5K. Another point they brought to my notice is that during wash if the grease of the coneset wears off, you might get the issue back !! Funny isn't it? You pay a premium for this segment and end up in such a mess. Why is so hard for RE to recall them and fix them?
Thank you for sharing your insights. If the cone set is greased properly then it will not need readjustments periodically. And RE uses a blue coloured ‘water-proof’ grease. And that doesn’t come off that easy unless you submerge your motorcycle in water, which is unlikely. However on the rare case that your particular motorcycle lacked the proper greasing and the servicing guy used a different grease, this issue might have come up from that angle. (Cone-set) which I did address in the video. But all in all, it is the manufacturing of the front tyre that causes the wobbling. Rest all the issues are rare and motorcycle specific. Thank you for watching the video. Ride safe.
I beg to differ, Apparently, my friend who bought Interceptor around same time, had same issue but got it fixed with coneset adjustment primarily, no wobble whatsoever till date and that too with stock tyres! Having said that, stock tyres are not a culprit. We even tried the same with my worn-out tyre exchanged. Trust me it's the cone set issue, no doubt. Other factors may add fuel to the fire viz., Low tire pressure, worn out tires, fully packed tail bag..among other reasons that RE service advisor usually provide as standard. Conclusion as accepted by RE, coneset adjustment is a periodic job every 3-5kms. Unfortunately last I got was well within 1.6kms! This is my personal experience.
Exactly man i have never felt wobble on the bike ever it's been a year since , no 1 tyre pressure 2. The main thing is cone set or just greasing it if it's good 3. The wheel alignment is the main process Mostly it will be with the wheel alignment . The most of them they don't know that , mainly the main process , re wheel alignment is the most stupid wheel alignment ever so do it with a other person , but mainly the process is the wheel alignment , the person would have over tighten the spokes so it should have lost air . ,Spokes air leaking haha , the re guys do it really bad you need to do but brother the wobbling is due to wheel alignment i would rather suggest you to do it with a person who is outside re and please make sure you let them know that you have installed the kit
Thanks for the input brother. But I did both. First with RE, and then, when over tightening of the spokes caused the outex kit inside to come off, I took it back to speedmonks, like I said in the video. They did the alignment too after repairing it. And still. This problem is 100% due to the tyres. Pirellis had a bad batch of tyres in 2020, so this problem is these bad batch tyres had a very soft compound. And they got worn out very quickly. I agree that wobbling could be solved by doing wheel alignment, but if it still persists, then its the tyres. Thank you once again for watching the video 🫱🏽🫲🏾😀
@@SrinivasGanesh yes yes brother in your case it was the tyre sure but mostly it's due to wheel alignment If the tyres are new and good but still it wobbles then it is due to the wheel alignment
To all those who say the new CEAT tyres will solve wobbling, sorry to say, it won't. My INT650 with 900kms on the clock, wobbled at 140Kmph, it's this low frequency oscillation(side to side). Tire pressures were as per spec, had no cargo or pillion, and the road was excellent(Expressway). I'm starting to think it's the bias ply tires. Or is it an inherent issue with the suspension/Geometry of the bike?(Unlikely because it's designed by Harris performance and the GT650 participates in track racing)? I'd love to find the reason behind this.
The wobbling, in my motorcycle, was due to tyre manufacturing defect. Hence upon changing that, the wobbling was gone. Steering damper won’t be able to reduce wobbling if it is caused by bad tyres.
