I travel on a Canadian passport and going through Barbados immigration with that passport is pretty much a breeze. I did however have my luggage checked during a trip I took after Canada legalized weed. Barbados takes immigration and security very seriously. They are a small island and do not have the resources to deal with migrants the way wealthy large countries like the US and Canada do. Some countries of origin do pose more of a risk for migrant travel, and so they are more heavily regulated and scrutinized. I do think it's weird that a ticket with a departure date from CARICOM was weird, but it might be part of a regional agreement, or bilateral agreement with Jamaica, and not specifically a Barbados requirement. Barbados has had problems with drugs, guns, crime and stranded migrants in the not so distant past, and a couple years ago they were embarrassed when a man threatened passengers on a flight to the US, they had let a weapon through security. Barbados as a small nation (and not a wealthy nation) needs to do whatever keeps it in good standing.
This is a fair criticism and analysis. Concerning the drugs, guns and major crime... I don't think any of those things are coming on commercial passenger flights.
I can understand the gentleman's position. There are fine lines when it comes to immigration. As a holder of a different passport (especially those requiring visas) and having multiple destinations, it is mandatory that you show all of those necessary tickets. If he gets to Jamaica and they are not in agreement with a visitor being there then they are going to send him/her right back to the place where they last departed. When he/she then returns there, then Immigration would be responsible for getting that person back to their homeland. The airlines play a critical role in this as well as the agents would normally be checking to see if you have all these required documentation/tickets even before they will accept you for travel.
Protocol is protocol. Too many people want to stow away in Barbados. It's a lovely country but you must follow the rules. All countries as far as I know you must have a return ticket. Guyanaese are known to overstate their time in Barbados as well as other islanders. Immigration has a job to do. They cannot change the rules to suit people regardless. Can he enter England without the correct documents? No! Canada, Australia, China? NO. We have opened our country to many African countries. When me and my husband came to Barbados to live as my husband was born there he was told welcome home I have never had any problems coming and going to Barbados period not everyone has those problems immigration is a problem everywhere not country wants people to overstay their date of leaving period
Canada, the US, and the UK have the same rules. I strongly believe that once you are traveling to any country that you are not a citizen of, you should have a return ticket. I don't see him complaining about having to have a travel visa to land in the US to connect to flights headed to South America and the Caribbean. True tourists will always have a return ticket, only the ones who are planning to stay in a country illegally will not. Then they will become a burden on the government.
He had a return ticket. His onward ticket showed when he was leaving Barbados. He visited several countries after that including Jamaica, the USA and Suriname. I don't think he's back in Ghana yet. You need to show the immigration when you are departing the country and he did so. So obviously he wasn't planning to stay illegally.

Immigration laws are not particularly legislated with traveller convenience in mind. In most cases, immigration laws have a direct relation to the country's ability to control the migrants coming in and going out of the country. So if they are tight at the airport, it indicates that they may not have tight measures enforced to follow the migrant around after he enters the country, etc. Also, many of these laws are made based on the experience of the law enforcement agencies with the migrants. That's why, citizens of certain countries have a bad immigration reputation and treated differently than others. Finally, Caribbean, due to its structure and geopolitical position, is vulnerable to be misused by international illegal actors. All that being said, having experienced travel to more than 20 countries in 4 continents, I have to say that the CARICOM immigration is from some of my worst experiences. It's not only Barbados. Trinidad has given me some really disappointing experiences as well. Many procedures are hands down bureaucratic, archaic and are begging for change for the convenience of the travellers and immigration officers alike. I can title the video however I want. He was required to show a ticket out of the region. However, in Caricom, unlike some other blocs, you get stamped in to individual countries, not the bloc. Because several CARICOM nations have policies that differ from the treaty.
This man spent 6 years trying to get to Jamaica, and was only allowed to enter that country, this year. Only he and his wife were given permission; not the crew who travels everywhere with him. His first stop in the region was supposed to have been Jamaica, but he ended up going to about 4 other countries, instead; including twice to Barbados, with his crew. Why? Because of Jamaican immigration policies. He (and African Tigress) also blamed the T&T owned airline, for asking certain questions when leaving Barbados for Jamaica. But this boils down to Jamaica. The other countries and the airline are honoring agreements with Jamaica. Be transparent in your reporting.

He and his wife has American visa they could have flown direct from Ghana to Washington DC then to Jamaica and visit Barbados last. He wouldn't have that problem. Ghanaians don't need Visa to enter Jamaica. Jamaica didn't stop him from coming 6 years ago. He had plan a trip September 2020 and Covid happened so that was detailed. I've been watching his channel for the past 7 years. Jamaica does not have any restrictions against legal entry which they have. They are allowed to stay 90 days. After the 90 days they have to leave and they can return. However, if anyone overstayed in Jamaica the immigration will track them down and escort them to the airport and have them deported regards of color. It has happened to Europeans. His issues had nothing to do with Jamaica. They entered legally. They just took the most difficult route. Now they know to fly direct to America then to Jamaica.

Barbados is a sovereign country and have the right to maintain the integrity of its borders. Other islands must follow suit. The CSE was rushed and it is not done in the best interest. There should be no CSE on the basis it's about time. This should never be done just to make history. Prior to CSE the region failed to collaborate and work in genuine partnership. So, I don't see CSE addressing those failures. For example, there is lack of collaboration within the OECS. Years ago, I privy to failed trade agreement. The OECS territories were supposed to protect their local businesses from the CARICOM giants and failed to do so. Leewinds paints was based in Antigua and supposed to get protection from Sissions and Berger etc. The government leaders met for a meeting and then went back to their respective islands and the total opposite. Berger and Sissions were allowed to compete which negatively impacted local businesses. CSE is the benefit CARICOM companies which chose to exploit for cheap labor and market access. I can't understand why hotel developer in Grenada have to import laborers from Jamaica. Jamaica, Trinidad, Guyana, and Barbados always had the upper hand. The smaller island cannot compete to produce highly skilled workers like the aforementioned countries through UWI. Places like SVG, Dominica, and Grenada will need several years to catch up. Drilled down to find out who holds the top paying hotel jobs in Grenada. Jamaicans hold all the managerial jobs in Sandals Grenada. Barbadians votes for Barbadian prime minister. There was a lawsuit filed against an insurance company which based in Trinidad. According to the ruling, court determined by Grenada signing on to CSE, Grenada would have given up some of its sovereignty. The courts determined that the insurance company policy policies is applied through out Caribbean and not confined to Grenada. How many residents thoroughly understand the dangers of this? This should be a local election issue. However, there is this notion it's about time islanders be able travel across the islands using a driver's license. While this may sound like a milestone, border protection is very serious and must be treated as such.
The issue WODE MAYA had, has little to do with the sovereignty of their borders. He showed them the ticket for when he was departing the country. His ticket had an arrival date and a departure date on it. They asked for the other tickets to see when he was leaving the region (all the way up to when he was going onward to the US). As for CARICOM, Guyana hasn't had the upper hand in anything. Guyana has never had a UWI campus and does not have multinationals pursuing hegemony in the region like Trinidad or Jamaica. Guyana has only recently began to rise economically. While the usefulness of the CSME can be easily questioned, the irony is that small territories would not catch up anyway. Less people (skilled or not), less land, less natural resources. The multinationals monopolising trade would be primarily from China, EU and USA instead. "Border protection" only seems to be serious for some territories when the visitors come from Africa or other Caribbean countries. The multinationals buying up beaches and land for development driving inflation and pricing out locals are almost exclusively extra-regional.

Before I became a US citizen i have travel across the Caribbean and had an extremely hard time in Trinidad 🇹🇹, St Lucia and Barbados airport. As a USA citizen now I don’t see myself going to those countries again. I am going places like Africa and Australia 🇦🇺 EU on my bucket list

I think more balance to this story would relate to what is the ruling by other countries in the region. Your bias in tackling this issue is evident. I do sympathise with Wode Maya. It clearly was stressful for him and Miss Trudy. But what is the standard practice elsewhere? That is not clear from your report.
😂 He said it twice, and I said it once. Typically, immigration requests your onward ticket (he presented it), which shows proof of onward travel. If you want specific countries' rules, you can go check. I didn't have to mention them in this video.

It was a practice where people from Guyana were delayed in an immigration room in an area just beyond the Immigration Officer cubicles. They would be led to that room and, after several hours of pretend interrogation, escorted by Immigration Officers to the Departure lounge and deported to Guyana or other places of flight origin! Caused a tit for tat practice by Immigration officials in Trinidad, Guyana and Jamaica for decades
That problem seems to be a Caricom problem. Another RU-vid person, African Tigress, had the same experience when she was leaving Barbados to go to Jamaica. Caribbean Airways told her she had to show a ticket, not just leaving Jamaica, but going BACK TO KENYA!!! I really feel badly for tourists who have to go through this.

I've witnessed it many times and locals and other caricom neighbors especially if their male and have a Rasta hairstyle get the 3rd degree stop and search returning to their homeland.
Dear Sir, you should have contacted the Barbados Immigration Service and asked for an explanation before making your programme. You will probably find that there is a rational reason for the policy. You should also note that it was a previous Barbados Governmental Administration that pursued what you have characterized as an anti-Guyanese immigration policy. The Barbadian people were so dissatisfied with that Administration that they voted them totally out of office in 2018 --with a 30 to 0 General Election result

Hey I understand what Maya is saying. Say He is travelling from Ghana to Barbados He obviously needs a return ticket since He is not a resident or Citizen of Barbados. Now if He decides to travel anywhere in the Caribbean He also needs return ticket or extension of ticket going back to His Homeland. Now if He wants to change travel plan after traveling to somewhere else in the Caribbean it is very costly cause He cannot purchase a one way ticket. Some of what you said is Absolutely not true. It depends on what passport you are traveling with . Most Canadians, Americans, British and European passport holders do not experience this. The most they would ask is how long you are staying. They don't even ask to see proof of your return flight. I am the holder or an American passport and also a Caribbean passport and l was recently in Barbados.
You need to do your research before making such videos! I have been researching different countries including some in the Caribbean and found out that the Caribbean countries work together as a block on certain things such as immigration. It is not an individual country policy but a region policy. One of the female RU-vidr was denied entey by Jamaica because she didn't have a ticket out of the region (she had a ticket out of Jamaica to another island).She had to purchase a ticket back to her home country before Jamaica let her in!

This has been all handed down from Britain, imagine you the only Island in a region where every other Island around you changing hands most times violently. Just next door to Barbados and South and north of Barbados all surrounding islands were either at one point French or Spanish rule. I don't even think those at Barbados immigration understand . That is they train from generation to generation to shut out foreign people as there was a time those persons were not welcome. That is Trinidad was Spanish up to the early 19th century and so Barbados would not be accepting of persons from there.
