A pretty good illustrator of why I don't like Free Play for vowels. Also... god, can I get more clipworthy material? The contestants are mostly the problem - how does T_P PR__R_T_ go unsolved?

With the tag in your hands, if you guess a consonant or buy a vowel and it's not there, missolve the puzzle, or spin the wheel and land on Bankrupt or Lose a Turn, you can give the free spin to Pat to keep your turn alive. But the next time this happens, play passes to the next contestant. Free Play: When you land on it, you will have the option to guess a vowel without losing any money. No money will be added but if you guess a letter and it's not there, you don't lose your turn. You can even attempt to solve the puzzle without guessing a letter first when you land on the wedge. If you missolve it, you don't lose your turn. The producers believe it's better to call a vowel without losing money or solve the puzzle without guessing a letter first when landing on the space, than keep your turn alive after hitting a Bankrupt or Lose A Turn.
If they are taping at Sony, then yes, the contestants have to be there early. when I was on Pyramid almost 10 years ago, we had to be at the Sony studio by 7:30am, and I didn't tape my episode until well in the afternoon. Still, for Player 3 to solve with no money in the bank is a total bonehead move, Prize Puzzle be damned.
I agree, Free Play = Dull Play. Solving the puzzle on a free spin is dumb too. For most people the goto is vowels but I think the goto should be consonants for 4 reasons: 1. You get 500 for every one you find which is more than a lot of the other spaces. 2. If you miss you're still safe (higher chance to miss on a consonant than on a vowel). 3. You can call vowels anytime you want on your turn, even after a FP. 4. You could get at least 3 letters in one spin (1 consonant and 2 vowels).
I guess the contestants either didn’t understand that they could also use it for consonants too, or they actually preferred to call vowels on the Free Play.
I just think the FP is a trap mechanism to get people to waste time and waste money. There is a strategy in this game and knowing how you spin and how words work are very helpful. Of course some people are just lucky and can always come on top but those nowadays are rare. The longer people have to spin the more likely they're going to hit one of the bankrupts or lose a turn so when you've got a lot, finish it quickly. And they've been recycling some of their "challenge" words a lot lately.
I swear Wheel of Fortune contestants are airheads nowadays. Put me on this show, Ill show them how its done. There was no reason for Jessica not to solve that Bonus Round Puzzle. That was so easy!!
