In a nationwide stir, Engineer Kunle Cole opposes son Taiwo's union with actress Wofai Fada, citing age gap concerns. Nigerians are actively discussing on social media, questioning the family's intervention in an adult's choice of partner.
In a recent saga circulating on social media, the controversy surrounding the marriage between actor Taiwo Cole and actress Wofai Fada has taken center stage.
The uproar ensued after Engineer Kunle Cole, Taiwo's father, publicly addressed the rejection of their son's wedding by Wofai Fada's in-laws.
According to leaked audio, Engineer Kunle Cole cited several reasons for the family's disapproval, including the significant age gap between Taiwo, who is 30, and Wofai Fada, who is 38.
Additionally, he expressed concerns about the rushed nature of the marriage arrangement, claiming that Taiwo only met Wofai Fada seven months prior and that she was pregnant with his child.
The leaked conversation sparked a debate among Nigerians, with some expressing support for the father's stance, emphasizing the importance of parental consent in marriage. Others defended Taiwo's autonomy as an adult and argued that age shouldn't be a barrier to love.
Despite the differing opinions, the situation highlights broader cultural and societal norms regarding marriage, age dynamics, and familial approval in Nigeria.
As the discussion unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the complexities inherent in relationships and the significance of family dynamics in marital decisions.

My father didn't show up on my wedding day. I've been married for 32 years and still counting to the glory of God.

Thank you . We like to idolises "blessings" I get it's important to acknowledge and get families blessings but I'm not sure if maybe he tried to and they denied and he's a grown man. So he made his choice. It's always crazy when I see families disapprove of a marriage like na you go marry am? Let them make their choice and just support them. If it doesn't work out then they'll learn but I hate such.

Most of these ladies are so emotional about this situation in protest and support for their own, Wofai. They have not sufficiently litigated the real issues. A child and an unresolved relationship are on the line. There is royal protocol breached. His mother, who should be his internal advocate within the Cole's family, is considered an outsider. He is, therefore, short on intervention from within, just like Prince Harry. Strong and powerful family circles are tough cookies to crack. Whoever is getting married into such families should understand what they are up against before starting. Either you are ready for the fight or flight.

It is easier said than done. What is not good is not good PERIOD. This is AFRICA, marriage will face test of time so you need both families when you face that tribulations. Love is not enough in a marriage. Look at the way May Yul-Edochie inlaws are supporting her.
@cfoxy3

Equally, those who don't know May and her immediate friends are supporting her. If anything, more of her friends are supporting her and not family. Let's be clear, family is important but it's not the end all be all. The most important thing is to have good people around you, blood or not!

This is a poor comparison with the British Monarchy, it is a completely different case. And Diana did not deviate, she and Charles divorced because he wanted to be with someone else whom he was seeing whilst married to her and their so called tradition did not support that either. It was because of his behaviour, his mother stayed on as queen until her death. Please let us know the difference, Charles broke the roles first. Completely different scenarios here.

The boy messed up. You do things right for the sake of your wife. Why the haste to marry? Why not persuade your father? The boy is immature and Wofai did not apply wisdom. The boy is definitely immature. You never understand the pain of parents until you become one yourself. There’s no way they wouldn’t have accepted later, but the Bible says honour your parents. Maybe the father knows something about Wofai we don’t know. The truth will always come out. According to Wikipedia, Wofai is 34. who is lying please?

Your write up was good until your last lines. For the records, Wofai Ewa is the age of my immediate junior sister, they were close friends in the pre-kids school. I am older and I am not 35 yet. She is 33 Years old not 38 as claimed by her purposed terrible Father in-hate. She's also from a Royal family. A well respected royal one at that. She's from a well known, educated background that's full of discipline. Go check her page, she's never had any controversy. Nonsense, our pretty Princess managed to marry that ....

Years back, @tolulopesolutions and her husband shared a video about how Bishop Felix and Rev. Funke Adejumo didn't want their son to marry Tolulope. However the son was matured with how he handled it, he loved his now wife so much and did right by her, sorting out issues that turned out to be small. I believe Gbemiga Adejumo could have easily blackmailed his parents, especially his mom till they agree. The enviable bond between Tolulope, Funke Adejumo and her sister in laws, wouldn't have existed if the young couple had acted irrationally and disregarded the groom's parents concerns. If a man truly loves you, he will save you from public disgrace. Joseph loved Mary so much that he wanted to divorce her privately. I also pray Wofai gets wisdom in this season, because her subtle yet loud shade to the Cole family of Victoria Island 😛will only worsen the whole issue.

@@freexonmediaI wonder who pays her bride price cause the elders of the groom's family usually hand it over to the bride's family. She already sold her self cheap! Though a colorful Calabar traditional marriage they had, but it looks like a rocky beginning.

@Stellaboyi we do not actually know if he did not seek his father's consent, it may be that he did and his father refused, perhaps after trying to persuade him and he still refused, he decided to go ahead. We all do not know that exact scenario. A friend of mine married her husband who she had dated throughout her university years, without her father's consent. He refused the marriage simply because he wanted her to marry from his tribe (even though her mother/his wife was from a different tribe) . After waiting and trying to convince him to no avail, she had a church wedding and few months later her Paternal Grandfather hosted and gave her his blessings at a traditional wedding ceremony. They have now been married 33 years and counting. Her father thankfully later gave his blessings. As much as we should honour our parents and traditions, they ARE NOT our Gods... They can make mistakes too, they are filled with IRRATIONAL prejudices sometimes and should not stand in the way of our future happiness. In this case her father's father made the RIGHT decision and stood up for his granddaughter. Will you say the father KNOWS traditions more than his own father??? Mbanu.

Morayo God bless you for saying that the of the girl supposed to make sure th family where her daughter is going accepts her. Please we should all know that father's blessing or even the family blessing are needed because when that love we think they are in have issues who will the lady run to. Marriage is not a question of adults who are in love. Any marriage either the man or the woman's side didn't agree please make sure you get everyone to agree, if not 95 percent of those marriages do have problems if not with the couple, it will be with their children.

I dont think the host (ladies) are talking about this issue accordingly. From what I understood of the entire scenario, I question, if there was already an agreement with both families to meet in May then why did the couple do traditional before that meeting? I think that is the coco of the matter - what caused the May meeting to be canceled and the groom's father & Co to be excluded? Because obviously the groom mother and sibling was present, and most likely the brides family was too for the traditional marriage - they were in agreements. Therefore why was the groom's father excluded from the wedding if he was willing to meet the brides family? If the groom's father was being unreasonable then I would understand the reason to go ahead and marry without his consent, but it appears he was willing to at least meet with the brides family based off the phone recording. Also the groom seemed responsible enough to tell his dad about wanting to get married, and even apologized about the invitations. There is something about the circumstances of the story that's missing 🤔.

My dad was in Lagos my dad told my uncle in the village to represent him, that morning we had visitors because our door was open we offer people kola that came to say hi, when my husband people came in the evening nobody from my father side want to come to welcome them , we waited my mummy went to them to inform them they said that the will not come because they saw someone (Mr …..) visited my family that it is an abomination because they swear an oath with the individual and it is not yet one year because of that they can not come to our house. After a long waiting I told my mother to let my Nephew stand for my father. That is my own story.
