Originally written about a British murder case which used Battered Wife Syndrome as a legal defense. Sara Thornton actually killed her husband with a knife but this was changed to a gun in the song. David Chase, creator of The Sopranos TV show, heard the song and purchased the right of usage for 40,000$.
