All branches of the US Military struggled to meet their 2022 recruitment goals, but the US Army was the only one that did not meet its objective. It got 25% less enlistments than expected, or 15,000 people. What is the cause behind this phenomenon?

It is also important to keep in mind most people willing to join the army as private are not college graduates. Those with a college degree will be interest in trying out for the officer training program. Most people don't want going through 4 years of college just to go back and start from the beginning again. For example, in a lot of countries with compulsary military service, in college they got a military training course. Because, you usually only need to serve after you graduated from college and most college graduate doesn't want to be privates, with the high school graduates. The 4 years militry training course throughout college is design so you recieve military training in college, after you graduate and you passed every single subject, you can start at the rank of Corporal, when they graduated from college and need to serve their CMS (and a corporal that graduate from a course of such is usually tougher. For example in Taiwan and South Korea, a Corporal already command a squad of 10 soldiers. In the US a Corporal only command 3 soldiers. Their rank might be corporal, but what they actually do is already the job of a sergeant.) If they fail the military training course, the army can say "Well, we gave you a try to start at higher rank, but you didn't pass. So, you need to start as a private." And among those that graduate the military course, some can even try out for officer training course. And if they can graduate from it they start as a Lieutenant. So, just the idea that they got an ad target at college graduate hoping they be interest in a job that they need to start from the bottom all over again at the rank of private with all the high school graduates, I don't see how that is a smart thing to do. (not to mention, not all privates are high school graduates. Some are high school drop outs. There are some that didn't even graduate from middle school. There are even those that been in an out of prison. What self respecting college graduate with no criminal record will be willing to start at the rank of private with those people, even with a CMS, unless they give them a chance try start at the rank of at least Corporal or higher first?)

@zarach9459
@zarach9459 Год назад
You can't, many young men enlist because it's a family tradition among the men in the family, but nowadays fathers and grandfathers are sensible enough to discourage young men from wasting their time in an organization that demonizes them. I have come across many stories about young people who try to enlist and the recruiters themselves reject them, not because they do not need recruits, but because they are forced to fill the boxes, a young man who wanted to enlist was rejected outright by the recruiter and was directly told that he was "too white" then the young man mentioned that his parents were originally from Chile, then the recruiter changed his attitude because being the young man of Latino origin he could fill a box.
@uncleshumagorath534
@uncleshumagorath534 Год назад
The reason why you can't see a lot of white men is because white men just realise they leave their families behind and their lives are wasted so the American elite can make more money and project their power while abandoning them to deal with their PTSD on their own, its not the woke, its the donkeys leading the lions. Now the military is trying to bamboozle Blacks and Latinos into their meat grinder.🤣

and that`s my conclusion. if your leaders are lined up with their approach to yours and in a united country, under real threat, it makes sense. but when there is calculated division that is actively used in promoting it and a country is deeply divided, and foreign policy highly suspect to say the least, then being a mindless puppet by the elites instead of fighting for what you have at home and freedoms and faith in government that`s being eroded isn`t appealing at all. nothing to preserve.

Now, I am so embarrassed by this BS that not only do I clarify I served in the pre-woke Army, but I expated to Korea because the country I risked my life to defend is no longer worth living in. Woke culture, CRT, decimation of our history, DAs that won't prosecute crimes, corrupt FBI, rampant illegal immigration, the persecution of Christianity and a generation that needs a safe space to survive and can't even figure what gender it is. When I was in the Army back in the 1980's it was pretty diverse. Many black and hispanic soldiers. Probably Asians were the smallest group which made sense as they are one of the smallest ethnic groups in the US. I served 6 years and not once did I remember anyone talk about racism. We all served together and hung out together. We just were concerned that our fellow soldiers had our backs should a conflict happen, not what race they were. I served with whites,blacks, Puerto Ricans, Somoans and even a Brit. I miss the 1980's more and more. No wokeness, no political correctness, no snowflakes, no daily cries of racism. Good times.

It was dominated by single men as it requires a lot of time away from home.. More than average, even by military standards. She had all the qualifications plus. She knew she would never have children and not married, so time away was not a problem. But just before she applied they let it be known that only women would be accepted. She knew that to apply then would leave her with the "only reason you got in was because you are female", label. Hardly the image you want if you want to advance. She did not apply. No one did. It used to be. I served in the Army back in the 1980's and it used to be about Duty, honor & combat readiness. If there was a war tomorrow, we would be screwed. Our forces have been decimated by woke ideology. The way I see it, if there was an enemy invasion on our shores, it would be up to us armed civilians, especially us veterans, to take up arms and defend the country. Can't count on our military anymore to protect our country. There are illegals pouring over our southern border, a literal invasion. And our military does nothing.

@gerritvalkering1068
@gerritvalkering1068 Год назад
@@CMCAdvanced there are a few, well, more than a few, places where things have better explanations which he doesn't explore. Easiest to point out are the recruitment ads and a statement from later about recruiting at schools. It's going to be a bit of a read, but bear with me. Armies have always recruited mainly from the poor (unless it was based on levies or conscription). Poorer people are generally more willing to risk life and limb than people who know there's a comfortable life waiting for them. I don't know why he even brought that up, the whole 'protecting poorer kids from army recruitment'. People went with it because they honestly believed the US was in danger and they needed protection. My conclusion is that the general feeling of being threatened isn't there anymore, not that they're 'woke'. Ask someone which country on Earth could threaten the USA and most will laugh and proudly proclaim there is no one who can challenge the USA. Maybe some will say 'China, in the future'. Russia kinda dropped off the list. In the past, appealing to 'being someone' and 'making a difference' was enough. It helped that there was the great enemy to defend from, the evil communists. That threat has worn off, people don't feel threatened and so the old angle won't work anymore. So, on to recruiting the poor! Poverty is often inherited, just like wealth. Your parents were poor? You won't be able to afford a good education and you won't find a decent job. Poverty is also a social stigma. There is always the general attitude that they're not really trying, that it must somehow be their fault. This attitude is fairly strong in the US. "When you work hard, anyone can make it" is something said by people who have already made it, or more usually whose parents made it. It's not said by people working 80 hours a week just to be able to survive. Are they not working hard enough? The children of those people care about getting a chance and being treated as a person. Because poor people in the US are not getting many, if any, chances, and they certainly are treated like dirt. The army will take you as long as you're fit enough. No barriers, no discrimination, no one looking down on you. It's a way out. So the army changed their advertising strategy. Instead of being the tough guy with cool toys serving your country, they aim to convince potential recruits that here they'll be able to get the education and knowledge unavailable to them normally, that they'll be treated equally, and that they'll be judged on merit. That's not being woke, that's a targeted marketing campaign.

On top of this, dog-shit leadership is hurting retention, but it is because of the quality of leadership, not the ideals. We are so disconnected from the idea of war these days, that we can hardly conceive of the notion of a "nation at war", so there ends up being very little sense of obligation to defend what we have. As a Southerner who hails from a military family, I can tell you that this current military wokeness is harming their ability to recruit in their best mustering yards for the combat branches. Southern culture is different than the rest of the States, and we view the military, martial values, and the intellectual study of warfare somewhat differently than most of the other regional cultures in the US. It explains at least in part the drop in Southern recruitment.

Can you please tell me what a conservative in Texas has in common with a liberal from say California? @emperorofhistory8724
@emperorofhistory8724 Год назад
@@EatMyShortsAU well, it's not academically popular, nor is it politically correct, but it's simple anthropology: the US is a collection of several regional cultures, quasi-nations, all loyal to the central, Federal, government in D.C. This means that when you're talking about Texas and California, you're legitimately discussing not just two States, but two totally different people's, with distinct cultures, and ways of life, values, etc... That said, California has areas that are very conservative, like around the Fresno area, and Texas has its pockets of liberals like in Austin. Even then, they're going to display regional biases and differences thereof. The US seems much more divided than it really is mainly because of the ideal of Federalism which is designed to procure local and regional freedom by way of central divisiveness. It works, though. Well, at least it used to work well. Since I was a kid in the 90's, I have noticed it doesn't work as well it once did. As far as common ground, though? I think that's getting smaller and smaller. @@emperorofhistory8724 Thanks for your detailed response. I agree the common ground is getting a lot smaller it seems like there is very little both sides of politics can agree on. I think the media and social media has a lot to do with that as well. It is also like there is two political societies in the like people either identify as a conservative or liberal and that determines their values and beliefs. Here in Australia we have two main political parties. One is center right and the other is center left. I feel like we are becoming less divided than say in the 90's. In the 90's I feel like Australian society was more divided between socialist and capitalist or the haves and have notes. The Labor party appealed more to poorer working class and ethnic Australians whilst the Liberal Party appealed more the much wealthier and more educated voters. over the last 30 years Australians have now become a lot wealthier so I feel like the class wars of the 20th century are done. Also, now the political elite and wealthier Australians have broken away from their from their traditional right learning voting. Now the progressives/lefties are wealthier and more education the right learning parties. In the 90's and early 2000's I was broke and very left learning now I am less broke but more right wing learning.

I retired after 20 years of service in the army in 2020. The issue I commonly saw with young soldiers was a complete lack of realistic expectations and motivation. Yes, physically as a nation we have become severely out of shape, but that can be fixed. The issue is that young people don't seem to WANT to do or become anything. The military isn't what they expect and when they get to their unit, they let the small things ruin their time in service. The days of combat deployments every other year are over. It is a peacetime army and a lot of it day to day is menial. There is still many opportunities and benefits associated with military service and there has never been an easier time to accomplish career goals within the service. The biggest takeaway is what you learn about yourself. You find out just how much you can do and accomplish. I'd say its similar to everything else, you get what you put in.

16 years I've been active duty. I was in the war and I've been all over the world. The problem isn't with GEN Z per se. I agree these ads were a terrible idea but the Navy/AF/Marines saw and have made course corrections. There are complicated problems in the recruiting area right now, mostly dealing with DEP programs being gutted due to the policies in 2020-2021. Referrals are a big part of the recruiting game. Anyways, from a study done in 2018 by DoD, the top 3 issues facing available recruiting pool of 18-25 year old males is: obesity, disqualification due to medical issues, criminal (non-waivable), and drug use. Mostly its just young folks are too fat. The army has started a prep program which has been extremely successful, and even if people don't make it, they get some life skills. The Navy has begun the same trend -- to help get people in shape and build some resiliency. The other problem is GENESIS. When a recruit goes to MEPs they now have access to EVERYTHING and some things cannot be lied about or waived. I'm for this because we waste so much time and manpower on "mental health" issues. So I am in favor of weeding them out prior to ascension. Allowing people with a history of depression and anxiety in a high stress/optempo environment is a recipe for disaster for both the service and the individual. The woke policies don't really reach people past Washington. Reality is no one cares or has time for this kind of thing. We all are busy. I can't speak for the Army but I haven't really seen anything that would be a problem in the Navy or Marine corps.

Prob one of the few reasons why the DSs were always smoking me, since I wasn't a mega PT stud, and a few of them had heard my answer at battalion and always voiced how they wanted me to succeed, purely because I wasn't in for selfish reasons like college or trying to gain fame. It legit felt like that "band of brothers" feeling in basic left as soon as we hit AIT. There were a hand full of guys from my basic who were in the same platoon as me in AIT, due to being the same MOS, and they went from "we will all make it together" to putting others down. It was honestly wild and taught me to never trust anyone who I didn't fully know. If my experience was common, especially now, I can see why no one wants to go in or is trying to get out.

Alexandre, you have a deeper understanding of America than 80% of journalists, 50% of political leaders and analysts, and over half of the people. Your views of historical topics are, IMHO, broad, deep, and balanced. Sir, I tip my hat to you. The question that is begging to be asked is, who ARE you? Where are you from, and how (especially considering your relatively young age) did you manage to develop such balance in your views? This is unheard of in historically educated people in America. Keep up the great work, and I hope that you continue to reach more people..

I found what you said about the army’s fitness test pretty funny because the different standards apply in the marine corps too. During boot you have 6 platoons in a company compete against one another in different events at boot for points toward honor platoon. And out of the 6 platoons in the company the 2 female platoons would win 1st and 2nd every time despite our times or reps being miles better. Our SDI who was a DI for 3 years told us that it was just the norm. Seeing stuff like that would be frustrating but we pretty much just had to deal with it.

I wanted to join the Army straight out of high school but my mother told me about one of my aunt's older son's experiences in the military. He was older so he was in Vietnam and so I never joined. In the 2000s after researching American history and foreign policy, I realized then that I would've been sent to the Iraq Invasion and the Occupation Afghanistan. A few years ago I met my aunt's son, told him what my mother said about his military experience, opposition to itand essentially thanked him because his example saved my life.

I thank my lucky stars every day that my Army recruiters fumbled my enlistment so thoroughly. I was to ship out for 13M in January 2018, but they forgot to update my physical at MEPS from the last time I had tried to join (failed the TAPAS, that test is a whole other can of worms) and they scrambled to get me a new one. Couldn't keep my MOS in the process, and they tried to get me to pick from some awful ones like Parachute Rigger. They said if I did not pick a new one, it would be termed a "Dep loss". I went home and never texted my Sgt at the recruiting office again. Dodged a major bullet.

I'd say that the retention of the military is just as bad as the recruitment. I'm about 3 months from my terminal leave and since getting to my current unit I've seen well over half the people get close to their ets and decide to get out rather than re-enlist. Everyone getting out and no one coming in is a terrifying combination.

After spending 8 yrs in the Army (11B, 13F), struggling to get the training I signed up for, living in barracks that should've been replaced a decade prior to me living there, getting forced into ETS instead of Med-Board, struggling with finding purpose again, watching from sidelines as my buddies went through woke training and being used as lab rats for the COVID vaccine, and watching everything we did in Iraq and Afghanistan go to shit... Yeah, these recruitment videos are just the cherry on top of the many reasons I advise people I love not to join.

I think an important reason people aren't joining is because of lack of trust in the government by young people, and the negative views on the U.S military because of the constant unnecessary wars in the middle east and their war crimes, which in the age of social media, its easier to see the truth

A survey on this type of question would be interesting. Do the enlisted feel like their main role is to serve as props in a grift? That is, the US military is mainly a way to siphon wealth out of society and into the hands of industrialists, contractors and careerists. The theatres of action, the results obtained there, and all the personnel involved are entirely incidental. Or how many have come to believe that all wars are bankers' wars?
