Congrats, you've been pinned! Nonetheless, we hear this all the time - I suggest you get off the couch & go experience the bush, or go book a guiding trip at a local lodge & spend 12 hours with a Guide... You will see some wild shit my friend. But I know you won't so for now, I will just say thank you for your disbelief, I hope someday you experience some of the same magic we have in the bush that God created. God Bless my friend
@@PatterningNature I've been in the woods for over 60 years.im a timber cutter with 40 years working in south east Alaska. Cut road right of ways in to the most remote places left on earth. Flown in by helicopters. 3 crashes you on the other hand are a bullshit artist
Everybody needs a Franklin ! That man is a wealth of knowledge . That’s a heck of a story thankfully he had the .22 that day and not the paddle . Thank you both for the tips and tricks . Until the next one brother be safe
Thank you kind sir, I appreciate the love! I love when he brings his paddle out for a Wolf track, but his guests are the ones in front of the track holding the rifle so the paddle is just "backup" at that point LOL But when baiting, he has learned a rifle is the better protection, especially if something like a Wolverine is on the bait... no one wants to mess with a Wolverine... Even the Wolves lol
You had Wolves in your backyard didn't you!?!?! I hear you... I always have a multi-tool on me & a buck knife on my hip anywhere I go. Coyotes don't scare me, but Wolves are another story... I remember walking a trail down in the Ear Falls area & as it got dark I put my rifle into the soft case & began to make the 2KM hike back. As I got half way a pack of Wolves lit up howling to the West of me & as I got closer to my truck I could hear them shuffling through the thick bush behind me & then to the East. Were they stalking me thinking I was a deer? Or were they just curious... I'm not sure... But when the hair stands up on your arms, that is your signal to start picking up your walking pace LOL Franklin & I still want to fish Brookies in Ignace at some point... when we set a date I will shoot you a text! We will be doing a sight fishing hole too!
@NorthCanadaFishing yeah I've chased them out of my yard in broad daylight. The wolves are more dominant and will kill coyotes on sight but the coyotes are more brave (or stupid) they attack pets and people more often. They aren't as bad ass as wolves but more likely to do something.
@NorthCanadaFishing ice is getting pretty thick now for sight fishing. December is best for that. This might be a short winter, we can do first ice in Ignace 100%
@NorthCanadaFishing if you do decide to try it in Ignace this winter for sure let me know. I'll try to get up there and meet you. So many lakes to choose from, could hit Snowstorm but that would be a long ride. I don't have a snowmobile and not sure what roads are plowed
I think Coyotes just haven't experienced the type of violence Wolves have in history so they just haven't realized how messed up Humans can be to them LOLLL! I can picture you running out your back door, rubber boots on, shorts, no shirt & a shotgun in your hand hahahahah!!!!!@@differentfins
Wow, glad Franklin had his .22 with him that day. I love the idea of the carpet in the blind. Nit just for the warmth factor but it keeps the noise down. Boots on wood make a lot of noise if you're changing positions to shoot with either a rifle or camera. The carpet would eliminate that shuffling noise. Very smart idea. Thanks for bringing us along. Beautiful looking wolves.
I hear you brother... He has not had many instances like that with the Wolves in the last 30-35 years but has had lots of issues with Black Bears. Normally a good shot into the ground spooks a Bear off though. I hope you are smacking some fish down there my friend!!!!
Hahahahha do you guys get much ice down there!? Any given year we get about 24 to 36 inches of ice, although this year the Winter has been WARRRMMMM so 12-14 inches of solid black ice is more than we can ask for & we are grateful for it!!! Its actually funny because the Wolves have to really be careful walking on the ice - They can't run or they will spin the frig out & fall LOL
Just found your channel, and this video. Great video and narrative! I am a .22 WMR fan and always will be. What ammo were you using when you had to shoot the wolf? Thanks for the video...
Hey Mark I appreciate the love brother! Welcome to the channel! By no means is the content polished & typically a bit "shakey" due to us always on the go... I thought about buying a tripod but I can't be bothered. The ammunition Franklin utilizes is 30 Grain VMAX, made by Hornady. Stay tuned... I have a video coming next week of me spot & stalking 2 Wolves on hockey skates.
Great video, you can tell Franklin loves and understands wolves, he is a true pack member, I hope you will learn a lot from him, It would be nice if you could find the time to do a few videos of what wolves go through in their daily lives just to survive, love the new camera blind, I spent most of my life in the bush that is the first time i heard of a wolf coming up on a person loved that story, pump Franklin for more stories would love to spend a few days with that old dog, anyway great video looking forward to many more thanks take care
Its funny you mention getting Franklin to tell stories - He said he would love to sit on his dock & tell stories with me in front of the camera. Come Spring, I want to do that with him - The bonus of doing it on his dock is the Wolves might pop out behind us to say hello & have a bite to eat off in the distance LOL Yearly Wolf attacks are as low as 1-3 per year... It is very rare... But with the recent new pack trying to push out the resident pack, I think this Wolf was sick & tired of being bullied around & was most likely very hungry... Just bad timing I think
@@PatterningNature I'm going to take the story telling as a promise that i'm going to hold you too, sounds like a good setting too calm lake sunsets grabbing a coffee off the fire on the way to the dock, loon calls in the back ground maybe even a wolf howl anyway looking forward to the stories, you better lock up the movie rights before the stories come out lol
Hold me to it brother!!!! I've had the idea of doing this for awhile now... I would also have Franklin play a song as the intro & outro for the story video because he is a wonderful guitar player & singer. Also I think while he is telling the story I can sit & ask questions & just purely enjoy his experiences - I am so grateful for him... I don't know where I'd be if I hadn't of met him.@@erniescabin4256
@@PatterningNature lol sounds like your mind is already working on the Franklin series the song intro&outro is a great idea, fine tune your producing and interviewing skills and keep comeing up with great ideas this might turn into something big
@@PatterningNature you might have to come up with a new name for your channel its not just a fishing channel, something that will cover all the adventures and stories you must be excited i'm excited for you good luck on your journey
Very interesting! Does Franklin do this just for grins and giggles, or does he do some outfitting! Didn't Tim Wells do a hunt there once? Enough questions. Good to see you back!
Hahahahah Merv you're a beauty! He still has guests but has now teamed up with a booking agent from Texas who does all his booking - I think he is booked for the next 2+ years at the least. Tim did hunt with Franklin, yup! It took Tim 11 years to smack a Wolf with different outfitters, yet the moment he showed up at Franklin's the Wolves were already howling as he exited his truck LOL
You mentioned buck paws, I peed in one once and the next time by it was literally excavated, 5" deep and dirt 30 feet away from it. That buck was some upset. The other guys in our camp did not believe me until one of them tries it and the same thing happened to them. I don't think it works as well for coyotes. I found a pee post and peed on it and the coyotes never came back all winter.
Yup! The proof is in the pudding my friend... Human scent (Body odour, detergents, laundry soaps, etc) are the key killer in any hunt no matter what you are going after (Even Raccoons or Red Squirrels). But when it comes to urine, there is a territorial instinct built into that ammonia thats in all human & animal urine that triggers something fierce & pisses them off LOL Heck... when it comes to Deer hunting, go chug a gallon of water before you head out to your Deer area & start creating false scrapes - I guarentee the Bucks in your area will do the same thing you described when they come across your urine & foot scrape. I'm a weirdo & my brain is always givin'r 24/7... I've thought about pee'ing on the bottom of my boots & on the toes so when you walk through a heavy Deer or Predator area they get a tad confused about the scent trail between the urine & human scent... But honestly... I don't want to start pee'ing on my hunting gear LOLLLL!!!!!!
Years ago a friend of mine was moose hunting alone in the Northwest Territories, Canada, He was just standing there on the shore of a dry lake bed scanning for moose, Suddenly he felt something tugging on his pant leg, when he looked around it was a wolf, It quickly ran off when he startled it. It was clearly hungry to be that bold, He didn’t shoot the wolf.
Those Wolves in NWT are giant.... Especially up in the Arctic... I'm glad your friend was unscathed & hopefully that Wolf got a meal eventually - That makes for a pretty neat story LOL
@@PatterningNature No, not that day, but I’ve got a few moose over the 30 years I lived up there, Caribou were more plentiful. Got lots of them, and a few large wolves as well, I’ve got many hunting stories and survival stories from living up there, Now I live in Alberta . But miss the north a lot.
You sound like quite the avid hunter, brother!!! You are a much better Moose hunter than I am, LOL I've never had a Moose in my reticles before, but have enjoyed watching them while they are out of season mid-summer when its hot & they come cool off (And get away from the bears & bugs) in the lake! Question for you... How does Caribou taste? I've heard its overrated... But then again people who say that also dislike Venison so maybe they just cannot stand any type of "game" tasting meat? You may miss the north, but at least you live in Alberta! You have a wonderful province there my friend - And you guys have some GIANT Wolves. I've been following Kyler who owns Wingmaster Outfitting - He even does fly-in Arctic Wolf hunts!@@rodneycallahan3117
Russ, holy crappola man!!!! I know exactly who you are talking about. I appreciate you sharing my content, that means the WORLD to me brother ❤ I will be posting a new video this upcoming week.... I think I might have made worldwide history & maybe a Guinness Book of World Records for "Spot & stalking a Wolf on Hockey skates". I just finished editing it last night so I will allow folks to watch this newest video & get it up on my channel next week. I get goosebumps watching this new Hockey skate video... It was INVIGORATING!!! Also... The most Canadian way to hunt Wolves, eh LOL Once I upload the hockey skate Wolf hunt, you should share it with Paul & see what he thinks!!!
He is an absolute beauty - Next time you chat with him say hello for me, from one Wolf hunter to another! And honestly, I was thinking this may be the first ever in the world... Although Russia has some pretty wild Wolf hunters so I'm unsure LOL Just wait until I get the full video up - I've been getting goosebumps editing it all week!!!!!!@@lobopropredatorcontrol
He does, yeah! Although he has signed a booking agent out of Texas last year who was a guest of his & saw the potential of his area. Now he is booked for the next 2+ years although if you are curious I can direct you to his agent, Dusty so you can chat with him - Let me know. northcanadafishing@protonmail.com
Shoot me an email - I'll connect you with Franklin's booking agent & you two can figure out details if there are any openings! northcanadafishing@protonmail.com
I know a few guys like this guy I’ve spent my whole life in the woods trapping and hunting these guys are always attacked by bears wolves moose elk and deer lmao
Oh yeah, Franklin's been chased by Bull Moose, Cow Moose, Wolves, Bears, you name it... People are in disbelief all the time when people like ourselves spend so much time in the bush, then tell stories about coming a few feet from a pack of Wolves, or being chased by a Black Bear. These folks are in disbelief because while living a normal everyday life, going to work, commuting in a nice warm car, sitting on your couch, etc... does not provide you with any insight into what we see in the bush. The more time you spend in the bush, the more magic you'll see. Master the patterns of Mother Nature!
Hey Tom, I appreciate the love brother! I use to have social media but got rid of it - As much as I love to remain private, RU-vid is the only thing I utilize now. I've thought about opening a Wolf hunting Instagram account, but my gut is telling me to stick to RU-vid for now. I hope you come back & check out the channel again... I will be posting a new video next week where spot & stalk 2 Wolves crossing a frozen lake on Hockey skates.
