I have heard that wolves react better with females than male humans because they feel less threatened. Have you noticed any difference with how long it takes Honey to warm up to women vs men? Love your content. So much respect, my two regular huskies are a handful. It's obvious you've put so much work into socialising Honey ❤
If you had asked me that last week, I'd have said she's the same with men and women, but I really noticed the difference on Thanksgiving day with a house full of people. She avoided all the men. She wouldn't let one of them touch her, but she loved the women. Usually, she interacts with people on our walks, at Lowe's, and when we bring her to town. She's good with both men and women on the street. But at home I really saw her preference. I wished I had filmed it, but I was so preoccupied with cooking, making sure everyone had everything, and that Honey was feeling okay. It fascinates me that her behavior is so different at home from out in public. ❤️ 🐾
I feel blessed 😃 I'm grateful every day for her love, loyalty, and laughter. Even when I remind her for the millionth time to stop eating the couch, my heart is full of love for this little goofball. ❤️ 🐾
@@bobandthewolfdogs I am so happy for you and her. I had an African serval. I loved her she was my friend and as smart as a whip just like yours. Mine didn’t eat my couch. You are truly blessed. Enjoy your life my friend!
Awww, she is adorable. I sense that she would love to be relaxed and play but the instincts are just too strong. And I agree that meetings on neutral territory are easyer ❤🐺
It's funny cause when friends want to bring their dogs over I make sure we meet far from home and if they get along on our walks then I test them out by putting them both in my car. Then I know Honey will be good with them coming in the house. I need to do that with people. I learned more about her this Thanksgiving. She prefers women over men. All the women could pet her, but she wouldn't let any of the men near her. She seems to be okay with both men and women in public but not in the house. If I could do it all over again, I'd have company over all the time in that first year. ❤️ 🐾
Honey is so smart. She feels uncomfortable, you can't blame her. She probably views him as a threat, which is instinctive. She was being protective of Bob when stranger was petting him. She was not going to hurt stranger, the nibble was just a warning. Dogs are even leary of strangers, as it should be, especially in their home, on their turf. Her face shows concern and some anxiety not knowing if stranger was going to hurt her mamma and brother. Even children react this way when someone they don't know comes into the home. Just a suggestion... it may be better to have the initial introduction on neutral ground, like a front lawn, or back deck, or back yard and not within the home, "her territory". I really don't know if wolves are territorial, as some dog breeds are. But, I see nothing wrong in her cautious behavior. Good girl, Honey.
My dog does the same . She inspects , does the walk around . Head up or down. Close by . Eye contact with her is a no no , til she allows it . You're right on human genders. Females , she will go closer. Men , absolutely not allowed . Will i know she will proect me ? Absolutely ! Ive never trained her for this. It's instincts and i fear nothing when im with her. 60ish lb Rough Collie . ( her mother had 2 lab pups , 1 husky and 1 collie ) She chose me
She's really territorial! If he had stepped foot in the lower part of my backyard, I'd be concerned. She only lets me and my son go down there, and she either wants to play or wants to know what the heck we're doing. I agree that meeting out in public is much better. I do that when friends want to bring their dog over.i make sure we go on walks far from the house, then I try and get them in the car with Honey. If they can ride in the car together, they're okay to bring home. But I need to do that with people too. I know Honey would appreciate it, and it's a great idea. I noticed on Thanksgiving that she was great with all the women but avoided all the men like the plague. It was really surprising to me cause when we're out in public, she's kind and accepting to both men and women. I'm learning new things about her every day. ❤️ 🐾
That's good, that she only let's you and your son go in backyard. Good girl, Honey, you protect mom and house. No stranger, really, should be setting 1 foot on her domain. Walks far from the house meeting new dogs is the best way. Makes sense she would be more leary of men than women. We, as women, are too. Animals are so smart, they can not only sense the difference, but smell it too. You are so right... it's a learning process, and you are doing great.
Love the closeup of Bob’s gorgeous face. It’s so interesting to watch Honey with strangers. People think wolves are blood thirsty creatures waiting to attack humans. But actually wolves in the wild do everything in their power to avoid humans. Love those three; they are beautiful, especially Honey. I could stare at her face all day. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hugs from Tennessee.
Thanksgiving was great! I hope yours was too. 😃 Honey was a bit overwhelmed by all the people at my house. But she did a good job. Bob's such a happy boy. I love getting his happy face shots. ❤️ 🐾
It is super interesting to watch all her expressions and body language. She was obviously going through a lot, mentally and emotionally. And then cut to Bob, who looks like a perpetually happy potato 😂❤
Bob's such a sweetie 😃 You can really see her confidence when Bob comes upstairs with her. She depends on him so much. It's almost like he's her support animal or service dog. ❤️ 🐾
She's so funny. She gets so jealous if Bob or Jake gets more attention than her. When we're out in public, if Bob is getting pets from someone, she'll push him out of the way. I always tell people to pet Bob first cause she'll come over real quick for some love. ❤️ 🐾
Thank you so much for sharing your stories! Mine are low content, and get so nervous and skittish with new people. I always tell people ahead of time to just leave them alone and let them come to you when they have decided that you aren't going to eat them. Some folks get offended because my boys are shy! They usually don't get invited back over. 😂 I speak as though I still have 2...my big boy, Chewbacca, passed over the Summer, but I still have my little Grimm. I started watching your videos and a few others to help me with my grief. Keep being a great wolf mama and educating.
I bet she is really friendly once she warms up to folks! She looks so sweet! I actually met my breeder's wolfdogs who didn't need warm-up time at all! They were excellent with strangers! I have heard that is not the norm, but you have seen my videos before!
Honey didn't have a lot of human handling before I got her, so I had to work extra hard to make up for that. It's interesting, though, because I've spent this last year really socializing her outside the home but not in the home. Thanksgiving was a huge eye opener cause we had a bunch of people over, and she refused to let any of the men touch her, but the females could. Out in public, she'll let both pet her. If I had to do it all over again, I'd have company over all the time in that first year. ❤️ 🐾
Bobandthewolfdogs…I appreciate the narrative by Mom throughout, sharing and describing every action and response. Honey is the BEST!! Bob is a great “security blanket” too! Such a home full of Love!! Thank you for sharing!
I always trust my dogs intuition about another person. Their body language speaks volumes! It's really cool to see how your dog pack relates to one another.
Honey & all of you are beautiful 💙 I loved watching all of her reactions, discernment & feelings in her eyes, ears, tail, the way she moved & held herself etc. We had an awesome dog that was part rhodesian ridgeback, she was fearless, territorial, & the sweetest 80 lbs to us, my dad got her when I was about 18. I still miss her over 18 years since she left us. Shalom & blessings to all of you 🤗
Thank you so much for these videos. We lost our best friend of over 14 years last July. She was a German Shepherd but she looked almost identical to your wolf friend. The coat, colors, markings. Makes me think I'm seeing Trixie in your videos. Thank you
Peter, you're the best! Thank you. 😃 I learned even more about Honey this Thanksgiving. Having a house full of people was such a different experience for her. I wish I had filmed it. She's much more shy than she is in public. I thought I knew everything about Honey, but she teaches me new things every day. ❤️ 🐾
Mine who's also a female is the same way. Off property not a big deal on property she's very skittish and investigating every single move. Takes at least 10 visits to be ok with new people. But she's just being protective of her pack 🥰
Isn't it interesting that they're that way. 😃 I learned even more about her on Thanksgiving.. my house was full of people, and she wouldn't let any of the men touch her. She was okay with the females and let a couple of them pet her. Out in public, she doesn't seem to have a preference, but at home, it's a totally different story. ❤️ 🐾
@@bobandthewolfdogs Oh yes I couldn't agree more! My baby girl is none stop teaching me. We've had huge summer parties and she's fine with all the people & motorcycles as long as they share some burgers with her. But no food no friend 😂
I get the feeling she may have thought that he was going to harm Bob, by petting him. I did not view it as jealousy, but protection. I must say though, it was cute the way she just leaned in and, nip! The look on her face and you saying, Oh Honey... that was funny. To her, it was the right thing to do, he had his hands on her brother. So cute.
Reminds me of a dog at the shelter I used to work at. He was listed as a "Malamute mix of unknown breed", but everyone knew he was a wolfdog. He had this whole protocol for figuring out new people, but once he decided that he liked you he was incredibly sweet and loyal.
That's really cool.😃 Once Honey decides she likes you, and it takes her a while, but you're really in. She's acts totally different in public, though. She's much friendlier to people away from the house. ❤️ 🐾
mine was the same, she would stay on the other side of the yard/room anytime someone new was around. i would just let her stay away till she was feeling a little more secure in the fact that i hadn't been attacked so she would get braver and eventually come over and greet the new person. once she got petted a few times she would be just fine. my roommate had a girlfriend that had been over several times and my dog and her got along just fine, till one day she asked me why i named her wolfer. i told her because she was half wolf, that was the last time she ever came over, she was scared to death of a dog that she had interacted with several times never having anything but positive times. it's amazing how some people can be so freaked out by a single word.
Wolves are pack animals. They don't like outsiders getting too close to one of their own. Even though they resemble dogs, they're not. They have different instincts.
So true 😃 She was much better after his 3rd visit. She's great with people when we're out and about, but she doesn't like it much if I bring someone home. ❤️ 🐾
Oh Honey, I can relate, I don't like meeting new people either 😂. You are doing an amazing job, I love your content and I really enjoy your watching your animals, they are beautiful.
Thank you so much!!! You just made my day. 😃 Honey's a shy girl for sure. My dad and brother just came over, and she got all worked up about it. It's so fun watching her personality develop. ❤️ 🐾
She is absolutely gorgeous. I heard a comment that I completely agree with. "All dog owners think they have the best dog in the world, and they're all right!" Obviously that only applies to those of us that are responsible pet owners.
As a cleaner and dog lover I don’t know whether to smile at the sweetness of this video or to cry over the amount of hair that must be shedded in that house 😂
I'd really love to see her DNA results. She's the wolfiest looking wolfdog I've ever seen, except for one black phase at a rescue up in OK. Stormy is "wolfy", but her cranial and muzzle structure is way more GSD than wolf, though she has all the coat, colors, cloak, tail, and paw characteristics of a pure wolf. Honey? She's the spittin image of her ancestors and absolutely gorgeous! ❤❤❤
Honey looks just like her Mama, who's 100%, acts like her too. 😃 I'm a little worried she might be higher content than I originally thought. I did her DNA test wrong. I didn't swab her as long as I was supposed to. She had just eaten, and Bob had been kissing her. Your wife sparked a great idea. I was thinking I'd film us retesting her and getting the results in the same video. This way, I could confidently say and show exactly what she is. For now, I'm just saying she's an F-1 high content hybrid. I'm not sure how accurate this information is, but I've heard that a mother wolf will pass the wolf genes down stronger to her daughters than her sons. And if the father is higher wolf content, he'll pass the genes down to his sons, and it won't be as strong in his daughters. I read it in an article eons ago, but I am not sure how correct it is. ❤️ 🐾
She nipped to protect Bob. Bob is hers and he was touching her Bob. My wolf dog is the same way. I ask new people to sit down. Then Koko becomes more at ease with them. But she will nip if you go near something that she feels she needs to protect.
Wolf: Who is this man? He seems dangerous! Man: Who is a good boy? Dog: ME! ME! MEMEME! Dogs trust us so easily, no other animal shares such a bond with us..
Bob's so wonderful 😃 He's always got that happy grin. He's been so good for Honey. If it wasn't for him, she wouldn't be the girl she is today. Bob's the best wolf trainer on earth. ❤️ 🐾
The Wolf is my favorite of all animals. However, even if i raised it as a pup, i would never allow strangers to come to my house and just let the Wolf decide what he's gonna do. That wolf may be 90% domesticated, but the unpredictability and natural instincts are still there. Not trying to disrespect you or you situation in anyway, just my opinion.
I thought she was gonna do a lot better. When we're out in public she's so good it's unbelievable. We worked so hard on that. I figured she'd be the same way in the house too. I knew she'd be real territorial if I brought a strange dog over, but I didn't think she'd act that way with another person. I think from here on out I'll have her meet new houseguests out in public first, maybe for a walk or two before they can come over and see what kind of difference that'll make. ❤️ 🐾
Good boy, Bob 🥰 I love that you understand and know her so well, your knowledge of the breed is great to watch in action. And kudos to your guest for being so patient. I would be a nervous wreck so good on him for staying calm 😅
WOOT! if you want to follow a nice youtube channel there's this one who breeds those huge animals? named 1st508th Airborne youtube channel, I can't post links obviously. cause you know, youtube. @@bobandthewolfdogs
I'm gonna say first by smell then by sight. Honey behaves very differently when she meets a group of boys or girls. We get approached a lot on our walks. When she encounters females, she's very loving and sweet. When she encounters males, she immediately wants to play with them. We ran into two teenage boys the day before yesterday, and she went right into pounce position and started poking her nose on their hands. ❤️ 🐾
Honey be like : Yo Hooman! How come you hugging my sub Bob and not me? When I have been giving you all the signs? Dontcha know that you are in my show and you gotta pay me tribute? What's the point? This fella is no fun at all.
This is a great example of how Wolfdogs remain, very cautious, and even skittish even after years of ownership When she jumped back at 1:26, haha that so funny because that is what mine does also if you simply just turn around too quickly They are ALWAYS...On Point I have a short vid here on my channel showing very similar the same thing so people don't expect to get a Wolf and think they will be all cuddly and affectionate no matter how fluffy and cute they may look. They can retain much of their wild behavior.
So true! 😃 This might sound awful, but I try and sneak up on Honey when she's sleeping to give her pets cause she looks so darn cute and comfy. I fail every single time. They're on point even in their sleep. ❤️ 🐾
No, never talk differently to any animal. Be yourself, they see right through the phoniness. Animals are very perceptive, they will know you are putting on a different face and it may make them feel uneasy and suspicious of you. Always act naturally around any animal.
When you have a pet wolf dog you make damn good and sure that anyone entering your house understands how they're going to have to behave around this animal because wolf dogs are very unwelcoming of unfamiliar situations in their territory and an unfamiliar situation is a new person, no matter how many people you've introduced them to before. This person likely knew at least a month before this video was recorded how they were going to have to act when they entered this building for the first time
Oh my gosh, so true! We've had to put so much work into Honey's socialization. We spent 4 hours a day everyday working on that. This year, we're going to work harder on training. I'm not expecting a lot there, but I'm sure gonna try. Her recall is awful. ❤️ 🐾
Can she be unpredictable in her behavior towards people? Like any violent outbursts? I know sometimes bears in captivity will go most of their lives not harming humans but one day they just snap and rip someone's face off.
@spenceredwards269 She's great with people in public but doesn't like strangers on her territory. Wolves in the wild don't allow non family members on their territory either. It takes Honey about 3 visits before she's comfortable. ❤️ 🐾
Always carry treats 😉 and ALWAYS treat her first. That is why she is biting. New human is not recognizing her position in the pack. However, new hooman did the right thing by not giving her any attention at first and letting her instigate contact. It's easier to understand if you live with more than 3 of them~they kind of self sort and you watch them repeatedly jostle for top position. Then it all makes sense. Lol... they are such big furry goofballs!! The lick n nip taste/love is definitely a thing. But they are so worth it!!
Oh sweet Honey, your mom has given you another funny nickname; "Jelly Belly". I've lost count of all of your cute nicknames. I know how you feel when a 'stranger' comes into our homes. It is a rare occasion for me to bark but that's the only time I do.🐾🐾
Such respect for such a majestic animal. This is proof how aloof these animals are. Too funny she’s be more comfortable with woman versus men. Happy holidays!
Happy holidays to you, too! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. 😃 It was really interesting to see who Honey preferred in my family. She loved my mother most. If I could get my mom to come over more often, I think Honey would have an incredible connection to her. ❤️ 🐾
It's so interesting seeing her reactions to people in the house vs. In public. She's cool and kind to everyone on the street, but at home, she's much slower to warm up. ❤️ 🐾
Things will sometimes progress faster if the stranger squats low and presents a side-on view to the dog with no eye contact, while holding the near hand out towards the dog so it can approach without being "seen" , and get a sniff. Do not stand util the dog has retreated. Repeat with a treat. Avoid eye contact, similar to what the dog is doing: quick glances then looks away. She is not locking eyes in order to not provoke the stranger. Humans have a habit of staring at what ever interests us. This should be avoided when meeting any animal whether it is a predator or and herbivore. "Eyes In Front" is frightening to most animals, and humans have the most intense stare of all. We also tend to show our teeth when we are pleased, when all other species do this to imtimidate. I've been bitten twice in 67 years. Both times were when I disregarded these methods because I didn't know about them at the time. Just my 2cents.
I have owned 3 wolf-dogs and the first thing I learned was your explanation. Kneel on one or both knees and let them sniff or bite your hair.....sounds weird but it works....Females will associate first, then the males...if the females accept you. lol.. if they pull your hair too hard, just stand slowly. I have known of dogs that could smile on command and looked ferocious doing it so yes, imagine a human walking up to greet any terrified animal with a big smile on your face...That could leave a mark....My wolf that I have now looks just like this wolf Honey on this video BUT SHE IS NOT TIMID!! DID I MENTION SHE FEARS NOTHING!! She thinks everybody wants to pet her... She thinks she should be able to jump on everybody and licky facy and that is one bad habit that I couldn't stop because I am in a wheel chair now and didn't get to train her by putting my knee into her as a puppy when she jumped and my wife was too girly to do it...Our Sadie is an inside dog and sleeps in our bed and my wife cooks her meals special.....She has never attacked our furniture.... I love wolf-dogs and wish as a young man to try to own a sanctuary for wild animals... Take care......
@@charliecopeland390 Yes, being low in a non dominant body poisition (side-on) relieves pressure. Humans are tall, which animals associate with power. When we meet dogs/wolves, their strong social instincts are on full alert, and a neutral body position works well, usually. It's even true with training/taming rabbits as pets. Get low. Lie down. Never hover over a prey animal, or try to reach down and pick up a rabbit or other rodent that you haven't tamed. They have evolved over millions of years to be afraid of predators (eyes in front) coming down from above. Working to gain trust from eye level is best.
Jake and Bob, yes, 100%. With Honey, I avoid them like the plague. She's had some experiences and was really good. I had a woman shriek the second she saw Honey, I had zero time to react, so I tried my damnest to stay calm. But the woman came at us running with a baby held straight out in front of her and shoved the infant right in Honey's face. I almost fell over. We also have the occasional child that runs up. She was a perfect lady with every one of them. But you can never be too careful, even when you really try. ❤️ 🐾
When it came to my brothers dog, he wouldn't stop woofing at me until I was sat down and completely ignored him, letting him come to me, sniff, climb up beside me, and only when he had his head on my lap did I pat his and he grew on me. Every dogs different.
I’ve always wanted to come into close contact with a wolf/wolf-dog, I’m sure there’s a sanctuary somewhere in the UK I could look into (with precaution of course). She’s beautiful, so is Bob.
