For the past 2-3 years I keep coming back to this video. This is a beautifully orchestrated, musical drum part and expertly executed. Does anyone know what the backing track is or where to get it?
Finally, a clip of premium drums with someone who actually knows how to play them. Top notch skills man, well done.....Thanks! Too many clips of $5000 kits being played by people who don't know how to replace a head.
Great drumming. I met Wolfgang when he came to Perú some years ago. Great guy and amazing drummer. That kit sounds great and looks even better. Congratulations. If somebody could tell me if that rack tom is a 12x8" or a 12x9"? Thanks a lot. Luis Fernando Quintanilla
Meinl is great company, constantly growing and improving. I bought dark HiHat and ride and I'm verry satisfied. I need to try this crashes, think that they will be my next purchase :) And yeah Yamaha PHX is really great. DW is not alone in hi end drum market :)
You pretty much just have to have a Résumé/Press kit of what gigs, studio sessions, clinics, etc. you've done and events you're scheduled to do in the future and send it to Yamaha's Artists and Relations.
If you even think that he is not a good drummer check on youtube a music from Metro - Bing Bang Boom. The studio version. The drumming of Wolfgang Haffner is out of this world.
No you can't really say his drumming is average if you researched the other drummers that have played for the artists that Wolfgang has also had the chance to play for....he can play pocket as this clip demonstrated but he can easily solo someone's face off if he wants to.
You would think for a demonstration video they'd put way more time into recording this - better mics some eq work...they don't even have their subkick on the bass drums. There's people with better sounding sets doing home studio work on youtube - come on Yamaha....you guys make the best drums in the world - SHOW EVERYONE!
LOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLL If he was "okay" he wouldn't be getting called to play on records for Jazz giants like Joe Sample or the Brecker Brothers or to do a simple demo on Yamaha's flagline drums....
I'm saying, that's what I want to see. I know all about the other drummers and the artists. I'm sure he can solo with the big boys, as I've seen and heard him with jazz groups, even an afro-cuban style group, and he smashed. This clip however, was pure cheese, from the backing track sounds to the tom sounds. But I know what you're saying, there's no doubt he's a great drummer. This clip just isn't the best example.
I'm just curious but is there a certain technique on crashing on cymbals... i.e. do you sweep the crash like not doing a straight hit like you would on hi-hats... or is the technique simply up to you and how you want you hit the cymbal?? I'm only curious cuz I bought some good cymbals and I don't wanna break them from poor technique
bonjour , qui pourrai me donner les titres et dans quel album figure c'est deux titre de ce batteur allemand je crois ? son nom est : WOLFGANG HAFFNER : merci d'avance ...
No one sems to have booming type of sound in bass drums anymore. It's just that tight studio snap that you can get from almost any drum regardless the price. I just don't like that "small" sound, overused nowadays. The toms sounded like they had been tuned too low. The voices were hollow and dull. If this video was meant to testify the exellence of sound, then they didn't convince me. Still, I belive that Yamaha makes great drums.
@spacitydrummer4JC I've never really liked the sound of Meinl cymbals. But if they offered me money and an unlimited supply.... Call me Dieter Schwartzkopf!! Where do I sign?!!!
That's cool if those are your thoughts. As a drummer who knows music, I can tell you that he's good, just not impressive. Obviously, pocket pays the bills. Can't hate on that, but I can say that the drumming is average.
Aha! This is typical of the style of Wolfgang Haffner: straight to the point and yet very colourful. Or better said: just serving the necessities the song required, while adding the right amount of sparkle! I have to say that I don't like the sound of the toms...
Why do the toms sound so crappy? Kick isn´t great eighter - must be a recording issue, can´t be Wolfgangs fault and the drumset can´t be that bad eighter.
no doubt a good drummer...just not impressive as a solo drummer video. He's showing us how to play on the gig, but this is one of those instances where he should really show some chops.
Does anyone else think this is kinda whack? Toms sound like doo doo. Cymbals sound great. He's not really killin as a drummer, he's ok, average....we can all do that.
yeah.. that's why steve jordan(one of the more "old school american" players - what's that even supposed to be?) plays yamaha.. you can't tell by the name if a drumset sounds good or doesn't.
come on, aren't you sick of all those wannabe-drumming-heroes? I kinda like seeing someone playing a simple groove on that level! This is what i call "in the pocket"!
haha worst argument in history. you even stated that he uses yamaha drums. then what about steve gadd, cobham, weckl etc. ? there is no "american" sound that any us-american label can produce and yamaha in it's custom shop can't. that goes for any custom shop. that's why it's called custom. If you wouldn't claim yourself to be from the uk i'd say you are american.
is that why you deleted your post? :D .. so because i'm a bassplayer i've got no clue about drums right? hilarious :D "stop wasting my time" again is no persuasive argument. it's a cheap rhethorical trick ;)
