I ended up really liking this video. I was just browsing for some wolfstar content when i found this video, I love the way you plainly state your opinion while also making it obvious that this is your opinion and others should interpret it how they please. I definitely found this so interesting to listen to, and i loved 100% of your points Wolfstar is one of the most wholesome things i have found in my life, and i dont think i could say aloud with a straight face that Siris or Remus are straight :D
Amazing video. I am a quite recent fan of wolfstar, only recently getting into very depth conversations about harry potter like this. It was such a joy listening to you talk on this topic because I have never really thought that jkr intended any romantic relationship between Remus and Sirius. I have always thought of it as the fans kind of creating what the ship is based on. As of my reread last year I did notice some of the things you mentioned in the books, but still only thought it was jkr basically accidentally creating so much tension between them. After watching this, I completely agree with you. It is tragic what these characters could have been in different circumstances. But I am still glad that so many people consider it real even when it isn't canon. Again, such a great video. Please make more🙏
The reason i love and cherish wolfstar and the marauders era is because it barely existed at one point, no more than four pages and a flashback chapter referring to or displaying the marauders era. then wolfstar happened of course, which lead to it blowing up beyond proportion. we were given the, im sure purely accidental, opportunity to make something of our own, and we did that and then some. we made the most minor of characters, a lot of which were mentioned in passing and never had a single line of dialogue, the most diverse in the series, and there are a handful of marauders era characters who aren't mentioned once in canon, not even in a character expansion after the series (looking at you, chapman.). we made mary and dorcas black, lily plus size, remus disabled (mobility issues), marlene asian in some fics which is like my favorite hc ever, james desi, and we made 80% of them stone cold gay. we made an entire story of our own within another story.
Wolfstar... as a teenager reading I never really thought too deeply about side characters in harry potter but the small things I did get as a kid reading was I loved them both. I got the sense they were undoubtable soul mates and wonderful parent figures for Harry and were two sides of a coin. I literally remember reading half-blood in pure confusion wondering where the hell tonks fitted in with things and Remus or where that bombshell came from and it only clicked when I got older that of course they were gay! I remember jk announcement about dumbledore and thinking surely you mean Remus and Sirius? The joint presents to harry mirroring body language the stares the commitment to each others happiness despite the trauma and danger to be for one another the cohabiting and the shared trauma . I've literally entire head cannons and side adventures to fill the holes in their relationship that jk left. They are cannon.
In my Harry Potter world I'm more into the marauder era than the golden trio because I personally find them interesting because of the fandom especially the fanfic casting moonshadows. That changed my whole view on the characters. I see a bit of all the marauders in me and I look up to them, it feels weird because they aren't real but to me they are. Like I don't know who I would be if it wasn't for those books/films/fandom (the non-toxic side of the fandom). Also as a member of the LGBTQ+ community when she said those things my heart went out to all the people it affected. 💞
the stigma of werewolves being 'bloodthirsty predators' fits seamlessly into the stigma that gay people would be 'sexual deviant predators'. and Remus, being the warm, loving, peaceful man that we so adore, is shown to not be any of that, in both senses. only when it gains a face, it can gain understanding and will reduce fear and hatred
Love Wolfstar, they are probably my favourite ship in all of Harry Potter. I also semi-recently came back to Harry Potter (around mid 2021 I think), feeling more confident in myself and my sexuality. This video really opened my perspective around cannon Wolfstar, and the missed opportunities surrounding the ship. Especially how you mentioned that if Wolfstar had been made cannon it would have simply slotted into the story so easily, without being main characters or even a main part of the books/movies. Very nice video, I'm glad I found this.
I've never really been a part of the wolfstar fandom (as in shipped them strongly or read fanfics like all the young dudes) but I have to say this: When I first read the series at 1st grade Wolfstar didn't even seem like an option to me since I wasn't aware that two men could be in love lol - but I was OBSESSED with their chemestry, and now every time I re-read the books I cannot stop thinking of how much they actually act like a married couple. Sure, there aren't any clear romantic interactions, but when two people know eachother that well and interact in such a cohesive way, as ONE SCENE in book three managed to show us, their connection is probably on a soulmate level. I'd like to add that we don't get to see that kind of relationship with Remus and Tonks. Remus looks kinda depressed in all their scenes together and wasn't so thrilled to get married, which supports him still being in love with freshly-dead Sirius.
