I absolutely agree. However, if not for Wolverine, the rest of the characters would have gotten along fine. He has a strong "tough guy" streak and always felt the need to challenge other men either verbally or physically to assert dominance.

@@Nepthu I don't think it was just Wolverine stoking the fires. Cyclops and Gambit butt heads fairly routinely, and while Rogue, Jean and Storm were often the voices of reason, they could and often did take sides or could assert themselves in a lot of the interpersonal drama.

Justice League is not a contemporary of X-men as that was a 00s show while X-men was a 90s show. But I do agree that the drama in that show was more focused or "sub-plot of the week material" as you call it than the X-men. However there were definitely other shows during the X-Men's run that showed interpersonal dramas. Beast Wars often had interpersonal dramas with Dinobot(wanting to be leader), Rat-trap(with his pessimistic attitude) and Cheetar(who was very impulsive). Those 3 guys had very strong personalities which often times made it difficult for Optimus Primal to lead them. There were plenty of drama in the Predacon camp as well. I don't believe the conflicts in that show operated with a subplot of the week. Most of the top quality shows( in animation and especially anime) that came out in the 90s actually focused on the interpersonal relationships of their characters.

To be fair, it is hard to understand how they didn't kill one another, particularly Wolverine and Gambit, Wolverine and Cyclops, Wolverine and Rogue, Wolverine and everyone else.

Not really, he blasts away the exploding brick, and briefly yells at Gambit, but then he just stands there silently as the fight escalates. I kept thinking that he was going to step in and show some leadership, but he never did. Rogue did more to break up their fight, and then she threatened to punch Wolverine, herself.

To be fair Scott, Jean and Storm wouldn’t likely have construction experience given their backgrounds. Given his background and age it makes sense for Wolverine to take the lead on this project.

Wow... Did someone actually take the time to put all that thought into such a phony psychology garbage AND then put it into words..? LOL. First of all, there was no one there who needed help. The situation there was not one of such a nature where anyone needed any help... So if the premise of this pseudo-psychoanalysis is fake, everything else is. The last thing anyone can say about Wolverine is that he had a "bully personality"... A strong, assertive, extrovert personality, yeah. But not bully. Unless that someone is incredibly stupid and tries to look smart by severely overthinking a fairly simple situation... Sabretooth, that one was a bully, he had a bully personality, and Wolverine was the opposite of Sabretooth.

But here's my take on this incident. It wasn't Wolverine's fault for it, it was Gambit's. It wasn't Gambit whom Wolverine told to add some more water in that mortar, it was Storm. Which Storm actually did BTW. It was Gambit who felt the need to accuse Wolverine of wanting to be the "big man" who was "always giving orders". Even though Wolverine didn't say anything to him. And that is classical insecure narcissistic behavior. It is usually the very insecure, envious personalities that are the first to accuse others of wanting to be "the big man"... It was Gambit who felt inadequate there in the sense that he felt threatened by Wolverine. Which is a clear sign of insecurity. So he attacked Wolverine, verbally and Wolverine reacted to it which is very natural, especially for Wolverine who is very aggressive by nature. The incident was started by Gambit not by Wolverine. But here's the thing and this is something that also illustrates the major changes in the society since then especially with regards to interhuman interactions. Right after Rogue separated them and told Wolverine to shut it otherwise she would "help" him LOL, Jubilee came along and told everybody that the professor contacted them and everybody went together inside and it was like the incident never even happened. Why? Because back then people were not a bunch of insecure, self-entitled sensitive snowflakes and Hollywood wasn't promoting that behavior either.

Wolverine was worried that Gambit is more gifted with the ladies.

Nope. This is just Wolverine being Wolverine. He just likes to ruffle peoples feathers sometimes.

Chad H hear hear dude... i gotta say Wolverine and the Xmen animation was better had better characters and really properly involved the Xmen and really enjoyed the dystopian future plot. but theres always somethin about the original from the theme alone, voice actors especially Wolverine, Gambit and Rogue were simply iconic. even the sound fx ie Logan's claws sheathing and unsheathin and Cyclops' optic blast Gambit chargin his cards are unparalleled to this day. so today is saturday mrng and not one good cartoon in sight man smh

The Fox movies had terrible vision and bad writing. They evidently thought Wolverine and Gambit were too close in personality (as in two characters who are the “take it or leave it” types). That’s just bad writing if they couldn’t build around that. That’s a built-in rivalry because these characters are very different.

Another fan wrote this about the incident while re-building the mansion. It seems spot-on: "The reason Wolverine was so pissed is because he wanted to help everyone, but no one needed his help so he felt useless and frustrated. He projects this feeling of uselessness onto Gambit by calling him useless and that's what causes the fight. Wolverine had beef with Gambit because he liked him. Wolverine doesn't like to admit it. Gambit was easily likable but not always trustworthy. Wolverine and Gambit, deep down are friends. Both are rogues, loners with dark pasts that deal with their problems differently. Gambit, an ex-thief and member of a gang (thieves GUILD if you will) that had street-smarts. Wolverine, ex-military and a woodland survivalist. Both had trust issues, both were dangerous to mess with. Both were willing to fight pretty easily. Gambit hid his darker side with his humor, charm and easy-going nature but he'd fight at a drop of a hat, he dealt with leadership often with dismissive humor. Wolverine hid his kinder side with a tough-guy, growling attitude and military behavior. He was willing to fight but to the few he considered friends, he'd go down fighting. The parts were their friendship was shown without being spoken: 1. Wolverine joins the group in "Night of the Sentinels". Gambit smirks at him and says "So you gonna join us, eh?" Wolverine just says "Yeah" with a What-are-you-gonna-do-about-it tone. Gambit knows Wolverine is really there because he has their back but Wolvie just wants to act like he isn't close. 2. After Cyclops leaves Morph behind, Wolvie and Cyke very nearly fight in the hanger of the X-Mansion. When Jean Grey informs them Beast is still alive and Wolverine worriedly says "But what about Morph?", Jean breaks down into tears. Wolverine is obviously torn up. It's GAMBIT that walks over and puts a comforting hand on Wolverine's shoulder and tells him "He's gon', mon ami." Wolverine jerks his shoulder away... because he doesn't like the vulnerability of being comforted. Gambit was the one to comfort Wolverine. 3. In Days of Future Past, Wolvie showed distrust to Gambit, but also to Bishop. But when Bishop and Gambit were playing poker, Gambit lost his temper at being called an "assassin" by Bishop again and finally threw a charged playing card at Bishop. Bishop absorbed the energy and boasted about his mutant about while charging to fire at Gambit. Wolverine warns him "I think he's fixin' to RAISE ya." After Bishop fires and misses, Wolverine popped his claws in Bishops face and said "You want to try absorbing THESE?!" But while he gave warning about "Cards not being the only thing to get CUT around here", it was only Bishop that he threatened directly. Wolverine also volunteered to stay behind to watch Bishop and Gambit so they wouldn't fight. 4. In the episode where they rescue Senator Kelly, Wolverine and Gambit are underground when Wolverine tells them to stop and Gambit jokes "What, you scared?" Wolverine said "I smell...Sentinels!" right before dozens of Sentinel eyes activated in the dark. Wolverine grabbed Gambit as they headed to the door and Wolverine yelled "GET OUTTA HERE CAJUN!" and threw Gambit out the door, then slammed and locked the door behind. In short, Wolverine was going to stand and fight to the end, live or die, to make sure Gambit got away alive. Basically risking his life to make sure Gambit was okay. Gambit pounded on the door, shouting "WOLVERINE!" and when he heard Wolverine fighting for his life, taking down Sentinels. Gambit refused to leave Wolverine behind and blasted the door, then the two fought together. 5. At the end, Wolverine and Gambit stood over a pile of destroyed Sentinels. Wolverine looks at Gambit and says "Do yourself a favor Cajun: Next time I try to save yer sorry life, have the good sense to let me." Gambit recognized Wolverine is his friend but he hates to admit it, so he just smirks at Wolverine and says "What make you t'ink dere gonna BE a next time?" 6. In the episode where we learn about Gambit's past, Gambit gave himself to the Assassins' Guild in exchange for his brother (in the Thieves Guild) to go free, Gambit's brother returned to a broken down house. Wolverine was one of the X-Men that volunteered to find Gambit. In that house, when the thieves were beaten but Gambit's brother sneered and mentioned that Gambit exchanged himself for him, Wolverine charged forward in a rage, snarling, " Gambit ain't a piece of meat for ANYBODY to trade with!" then grabbed him and slammed the thief against the wall. Then Wolverine popped two claws, one on other side of the thief's face and growled in a mocking Cajun accent " SOMETIMES deh claw slip... tell us where 'Remy' is and it won't." 7. In that same Episode, when Wolverine saw that Gambit was in a forced "Marriage" to his former love in the Assassin's Guild, Wolverine didn't care about fighting the assassin's, he charged right over to Gambit (Seeing that the ring Gambit had stopped his powers and allowed his "wife" to hurt him with energy shocks) and said "Lemme see that ring, gumbo!" WOlverine popped a single claw as he tried to put it to the ring and said "You ain't the marryin' kind." He got shocked for it. Then he sneak attacked the "wife" and nearly got her before being blasted int he air. Jean slowed his fall and said unless they stopped the situation, every thief would die. Wolverine made it clear "I don't care what witch ladies wanna do what to which Cajuns, I'M here to stop a weddin'!" (Translation: Screw the Thieves Guild, Screw the Assassins' Guild, I just want Gambit saved). Pretty obvious these two were friends and liked each other. Wolverine just doesn't handle it well so he acts gruff.

Don't forget about the Out of the Past episodes where Gambit helps out Wolverine on his settling with Yuriko and fighting off Yuriko's gang, and the Spirit Drinker monster. Also the Dark Phoenix saga after when Gambit gets thrown into the pond by Rogue, Wolverine gave sympathetic advice to him to not make the girls mad.

Almost all of the X-men are actually a very bad matchup for Wolverine, as long as they keep their distance. He excels at beating street level thugs, but here he's surrounded by alpha and omega mutants

Gambit is Cajun (from Acadian meaning a group of French Canadians from the present-day Maritime Provinces who were deported by the English to Louisiana). This is probably one of the reasons Anglophone (English-speakers like Logan) and Francophone Canadians don't always get along.
