Mario Melchiot, Gab Marcotti, Ale Moreno and Shaka Hislop join Sebastian Salazar on ESPN FC to react to the Premier League voting to keep VAR 19-1, the one dissenting vote being Wolves. They did provide six "Action Points for Improvement" to hopefully cause VAR to work more smoothly.

Keep hearing that VAR isn't the problem but it's the fault of the operators, That's completely wrong! The second that VAR is interrupting the game then it slows it down and becomes boring, speaking as a STH in the Premier league I see it game after game to the point I'm considering not renewing, we need to get rid and go back to allowing referees to referee, yes there will be mistakes but the game will be so much more enjoyable as it is in the lower leagues

The vote was a joke, the PGMOL response is pathetic, and the clubs will suffer for not outing this garbage as the fans get more and more dissatisfied with the 'product' they're serving up on a weekly basis. If it's not fixed, football will keep on dropping. The great thing about VAR isn't what people keep lauding, that "it gets more decisions correct". The great thing VAR could do, is get the *really obviously wrong* decisions right. The marginal stuff? Forget that. The rocking a blurry image back and forth twenty times to determine if Jack Grealish's toe was clipped by a defender with the slightest touch? That takes too long, and does *nothing* to progress the game. Bin that nonsense. Until it really shows that it's willing to back off the 'perfect technology' excuse, it's going to continue to be flawed and interfere with our game.

When a team is relegated, everything decreases: revenue, popularity, and value. (To be honest, it's an expulsion from the league.) Of course, players are leaving too. Which player would you like to play in the second division? If a weak team is relegated, the team becomes even more broken. Also, because of the risk of relegation, owners do not invest in their teams. You say you're reluctant to spend money. If you spend a lot of money and get demoted, will you take responsibility? Because the relegation system is also unfavorable to the club's value, Saudi Arabia purchased Newcastle in 2021 for 300 million pounds (about 400 million dollars at the exchange rate at the time). In 2022, Bournemouth was acquired by the American for 100 million pounds ($130 million). Honestly, if there had been no demotion, it would have been sold for around $1.5 billion. Currently, American sports such as nfl and mlb and nba have no relegation system and are generating huge revenue. Washington Commanders sold for $6 billion. Because there is no demotion and revenue is guaranteed. And most pl owners are foreigners. If it were you, would you spend a lot of money on a league with a relegation system?And the winning team is almost always the same. So do you think the weak team will win the Champions League? And if a popular team is relegated, it will be a huge blow to the league. Most overseas fans or people who don't watch much sports watch the games of super clubs such as PSG, Barça, Munich, and Real Madrid, and do not watch lower-ranked teams.Seriously, what are the benefits? (By the way, I am not American.) Honestly, if you ask whether the relegation system helps revenue and popularity, 99% of people will answer 'noRather, the owner does not invest more in the team for fear of being relegated. There is a risk. And relegation is unfavorable as it hurts the club's value and popularity. Also, the teams that are going to be relegated anyway have no motivation and nointention of winning. Defeat on purpose (e.g. Sheffield , Almeria, Salernitana) They gave up on the season and are being relegated.

The EPL is widely considered the very best league in the world. However, only 30% of the players are English at this point. And that number is only as high as it is because of homegrown quota rules that require each club to have a minimum number of English players. The league is the very best in the world because the players come from all over the world and form the best pool of talent in one league. The reality is the English referee talent does not match the talent of the best players from all over the world in the league. The issue with VAR is not the technology. The issue is with the English human referees that simultaneously do not officiate matches at the level required often enough and aren’t using the technology they are entrusted with at a high enough level. That’s the real problem.

Why call it the "Premier League". Isn't it the English Premier League. I don jot understand. English Premier League clubs cannot scout properly and are just getting any players they can and overpaying them. Meanwhile, they can't even get a team in any European Final, and only one in a Semi-final, while a Greek Team from the GREEK Super League was able to win a European Trophy. What is so Premier about the English Premier League that it must just be called the Premier League. Lions are not even from England. Where does that come from. They should have a Fox as the emblem. Isn't the Scottish Premier League also Premier. and would the Greek league be better because it is called the Super League. If the English insist on calling it the PL instead of EPL, then all clubs around the world should have an opportunity to join the Premier League, including Saudi, Other European clubs, North and South American clubs and Asian clubs. Then it can be called the Premier League. What about the Indian Premier League. I would say they get bigger crowds to their games, and probably a larger worldwide audience. Why can't they just be called the Premier League? Even England's two best players, do not even play in the "premier League" It should be called Foreign Billionaire Owners League. Almost none of the PL clubs are owned by the English. I can't wait for the 4 tier European Super Leagues. and eventually the WORLD LEAGUE. I am just asking, as someone got upset with me today for calling it the EPL, and insisted that it was PL. But to me, that is the Portuguese League. I don't know, maybe I am crazy. I am just so bored of the English Premier League. I just watch highlights to see clubs like Man Utd and Chelsea fail.

@@ruidean72 You’re making a lot of points that don’t add up. You said the EPL doesn’t have the best players in the world? And a reason for England not performing at major competitions is somehow proof the league is not as strong as others? Meanwhile the EPL had by far the most players at the last World Cup. This shows the EPL does in fact have the best players in the world. On top of that, this is a reason why England do not perform. The Premier League is the most multicultural league in the world as it attracts the best talent from around the globe, making it more difficult for local talent to break through. You think the Portuguese League is the best league in the world but based off what metric? Even the second league in England had more players at the World Cup.

@ruidean72 2 месяца назад
@@babyting395 I am not saying the Portuguese League is the best league in the world, but it is not too far off the EPL, especially with the Top teams in The Portuguese League, and the salaries are no where near the EPL. Proof is in the pudding when Sporting beat Tottenham and Arsenal, and Arsenal just scrapped past Benfica this year. Olympiacos smashed 4th Placed Aston Villa. All you have in the EPL is Man City, and only because of Oil money.... Many EPL players are overrated, and overpaid. Yes, you may have loads of Players that play for their international teams, but many of those teams are not Strong International teams. Jordan and Qatar reached the Asian Cup final, but none in EPL, but plenty of Japanese and Koreans, and Chinese. Additionally, players only play there because of the money, just like many great players playing in Saudi Pro League. Why else would these players want to play and live in gloomy horrible England. Even England's best player, Jude Bellingham does not want to play in the EPL. One team in the semis of Euro cups, and that was Conference league, does not make EPL the best league in the world. Man City the only team that can win the EPL. And even they are suing the EPL. WOW... EPL clubs will eventually go broke when the Billionaires do not see it feasible to own an EPL club anymore, especially when the Super League eventually starts. Most of these Billionaires are not even football fans, so when it is not profitable anymore, they will go, and clubs will then go broke paying these expensive contracts... it is inevitable.

@@ruidean72 All the Premier League has is Man City? Are you trying to be disingenuous? if you’re trying to claim the EPL is a “one team league”, you need to hold the same energy for Spain, Germany and France and most leagues in Europe. Take a look at World Clubs Ranking Database. The Premier League currently has the most teams in the top ten with three. The Portuguese League has zero. Don’t let a couple of results this season fool you. English clubs consistently perform better in Europe. Of course, there are always exceptions. You say that some players may not play for good international teams. This could be said about any league. Are you seriously trying to compare the World Cup to the Asian Cup? You do realize the best teams in Asia are also represented at the World Cup right? So if the EPL isn’t the best league in the world, what is?
