He reckoned JJ was going to trade the camera for "his stuff", and figured the camera was more valuable; so he got cute and said he didn't want anything back. JJ then had the camera taken away from him anyway, so he lost his stuff and the camera, now that's a result!

So, let me get this straight: these two were a couple. He has a son from a prior marriage/relationship. Around Christmas time, his ex-wife calls and threatens to strip him of visitation rights, so his then-girlfriend encourages him to spend the holiday season with his son. She even offers to drive him over, and lends him her camera to take some pictures of their time together. After he's dropped off, he never goes back. Their relationship is over-no explanation, no conversation, no indication that they weren't on good terms. She claims that when he left to go see his son, the two weren't broken up _per se,_ but her intonation and her choice of words suggests that she somehow knew he wasn't coming back. What am I missing here? Did he abandon her with no word? Did they explicitly break up beforehand? The sequence of events doesn’t make much sense.

The guy was such a peice of work..when the Judge asked if he wants his things back, he tried to think quickly .. saying yes would mean having to return the camera, which in no way he wanted to part it, he thought if he said no, the judge would say " 1000 dollars for the camera less the 600 dollars for his items (grill, stereo etc.) and award a 400 dollars to the plaintiff. Hahaahhaaa...his clever (NOT) move smacked him in his face. He wants to keep a $1000 plus camera that his ex gf paid for, he should haver returned it when she asked for it back as she uses it in her photography business. Good that the gf asked him to go his family, she is better off without him. Edit: I rewatched it as I enjoyed watching a jerk make a fool out of himself!

As someone who has worked professionally as a photographer, I don't believe she would have given him the Nikon, as she would have needed that as a backup camera, especially when shooting events. It just doesn't make sense. However it does make sense that she would have offered him the older Canon.
