I’m not a Boy Scout and really not too much of an outdoor/nature expert, but with the recent weather I stay away from large trees. We’re also house hunting, I make sure that there are no large trees surrounding the house we are looking at, or on a hill due to recent mudslides. We hear constantly that trees are falling everywhere, and that tree trimmers are overwhelmed. That hike in this weather was very very brave. RIP, I’m so sorry ! Be safe everyone
Falling trees probably cause more deaths than the much more “scary” things that we stress about, like aviation accidents. Before I was 40, trees had twice fallen on me, once in a car (it was a tree along a SoCal highway) and once onto my kitchen, trapping me inside (it was a neighbor’s tree). Both times I was very lucky, the heavy trunks were caught on the car frame and house frame, respectively, so that I was only hit by smaller, lighter branches. My heart goes out to the family of this lady, what a tragic death. Unfortunately, many trees weakened by drought can come down suddenly when the ground becomes softened by this much rain this winter, even without active wind. Driving on a local road a few years ago, I had to stop as a whole clump of trees fell onto the road in front of my car, rather slowly, as the ground just gave way, it was days after the big atmospheric river storm of October 25.
I’m so sorry about what happened to this woman. I was not totally surprised. I was once walking in SF after a few days of rain. I heard a crack noise behind me. I turned around to see a huge limb fall to the sidewalk. Close call. I was shocked as I had never heard of anything like that happening.
The PG&E trail is a serious hike, very difficult. I've hiked there many times. Condolences to the family. It's not something you expect in a park like that.
I think the most difficult part is the 18.5% uphill segment if you are coming from the vista point direction. Otherwise it is just relatively long but not particularly insane. Regardless I was there two weeks ago and thought many trees along the trail could fall because of how much soil has been washed off. It sucks that it happens on a hiker and I am deeply saddened.
what is with these people who go hiking during storms? we live in a state where this hardly ever happens and is normally obnoxiosuly dry and hot and you pick the one week out of the season when it's dangerous?
Heartfelt Condolences to the Families and all who had to witness such a tragedy. 👍🙏🏻RIP Mama Bear! 🥰As a former longtime Res can’t tell ya how many millions of times I’ve traversed that trail. Never had a blip of Mtn Lion, nor weird creepy vibe peoples. Nor falling MAJORbranches off those beautiful trees. 😢 RIP, Ángel. 🙏🏻
What is the best thing to do in that situation? I didn't think of the idea they had with slipping a rock underneath the tree. If the person can breath, is it better to leave the tree on the body with the pressure to the body? Would the sudden release of pressure create bleeding situations? With major puncture wounds, I remember something said about keeping the object in the body until a doctor can remove it.
Horrible...may she rest in peace. God bless her family, friends and loved ones. Thats the stephen E Arbours trail, I hike there all the time. Oaks are saturated this time of year, branches and bark are splitting and falling off all the time. Strength and honor BSA!!... Scout on brothers.
🤍🤍 From a stranger in Utah this tore at my heartstrings! Everyone who knows and loves this dear woman, YOU ARE LOVED 🤍🤍❤️ To her husband and child or children, please talk about your feelings to Jesus and our Father in Heaven. Only can they feel your pain and bring you comfort. I love you ,too ❣️❣️🌹🕊️🕊️🕊️
When mother nature put natural selection on auto pilot. Sad day for the ladies family... No one can predict when a freak accident is going to happen. The family should sue PGE for not keeping the trees trimmed and away from power lines.
