Woman on quest to find sperm donor father finds shocking truth about her conception 

Her "real father" is the man who died when she was 7.

The man who raised her and died was her father.

I'll bet this happened a lot more often than people think.

Fertility doctors should be DNA tested, and children conceived by donation ought to be tested so that those committing fraud can be caught early.

I've watched a documentary with the same situation but in Indianapolis. The doctor was called Don Cline and he fathered almost 90+ children without the knowledge of the parents.

I recently found out that I was adopted from a shelter. But, that's OK, my adoptive Mom and Dad really love me!

It is sad because she thought she had found her real dad. That must have felt like a loss too.

I have an immense respect for people who see that something is off and then go down rabbit holes until they discover a truth so disturbing that they were probably better off not knowing about it. But, they decide to confront that truth anyway. What that doctor did was absolutely unethical.

There are no accidents. The man she found as the donor was her father in past lives. They had the connection right away and she was meant to meet him. I feel badly his sperm wasn't the one used, though, but still, there is such a similar vibration between him and his 'daughter'.

Genetically her mom and her doctor produced a beautiful and healthy daughter, in a way she should be grateful.

I don't think donors should have people turning up on their doorstep. They don't donate to 'become' a father.

The doctor apparently didn't imagine that DNA sequencing would become cheap and available to everyone.

106 guy and this girl are the proof that you don’t need to be genetically related in order to feel a bond. It’s all psychological and what you believe.. that’s why keep showing love to your adopted parents because they raised you. It’s good to know your roots of course but never stop loving and respecting your adopted parents..

Apparently this was happening a lot in the 90's. It's really sad.

I’m glad she found this out but for regular donors why are you seeking them out if you know that this is just a person who donated sperm. They’re not obligated to have any sort of relationship with you.

Everyone deserves to know their true DNA and background of biological relatives for their own medical issues. It's selfish and reckless to hide this information.

I am shocked at how many people feel like this was some huge violation. The lady wanted a child, she was willing to get the sperm from a stranger, i don't understand why the fact the stranger was the doctor is such a big deal for the mother?

Not knowing who their donor is could put them at risk of consanguineous relationships with other offspring of the same donor.

And I would have gotten away with it, if it wasn't for that meddling kid!!

All of his patients should check to see how many other times he's been a "local donor".

There was a case like this in Indiana some years ago. Moms thought their artificial inseminations had used their husband's sperm when in fact the sperm was from their OB/Gyn. He had fathered dozens of children, all in the local area. The odds of accidentally marrying and reproducing with a half sibling are great. The doctor, now retired, was never prosecuted, because prosecutors could not identify any law he had broken. He got away with it. In addition to the ethical issues, think of the health problems caused by genetic incest.

That doctor is sick. I wonder how many patients he has done that too.

I feel like people should have just told the truth in this situation. First of all, why didn’t the mom tell her OWN DAUGHTER how she was conceived!!

Someone should investigate how many other samples contain his DNA.

One could argue that the doctor isn't protected from donor anonymity agreements because he is the owner of a company. He would in fact violate that clause himself maybe even nullifying it. Moreover, there is a conflict of interest as the doctor would have been violating patient-provider confidentiality too as the patient (woman's mother) has a right to how her health information will be used, (i.e. her egg is mixed with his sperm), and she has to give consent for it to be used especially if it's her doctor. If he as a doctor believes his sperm is in fact "medical treatment" then she would need to sign off on this just like she did for donor #106.

The picture of the doctor makes him so suspicious in this video too. I could see a man like him do something like this.

There was a whole documentary on Netflix about this or another doctor. The story I saw featured over 100 “kids” of a fertility doctor that were unknowingly conceived. It’s a fascinating and sad story. This is completely irresponsible of this doctor and he should lose his license.

I remember the Law & Order episode about this. (And, yeah; the dad who raised her _fathered_ her in the sense of being her dad. That said, biology _can_ matter. Moreover, every human person has an intrinsic right to be fathered by that person's biological father, and mothered by that person's biological mother. When unintentional tragedies make this impossible, it's merely a sad deficiency, not a crime. But when someone takes positive action to prevent a child from receiving fathering from their father, or mothering from their mother, it's a human rights violation, and ought to be a crime. It's just part of how humans are, and we shouldn't just shrug off things which are intrinsic to our nature as humans.)

Same thing happened to an ex of mine. She didn't find out until she was in her 30's. She got curious who dad was, did a test and eventually discovered it was her Mom's doc. Of course the mom didn't know he had used his own sperm. The worst thing of all is he was his daughters doc until her mid 20's! He was examining his own daughter, pelvic exams and all. 😑

When I was in my early 30’s I was exploring the issue of how I wanted to get pregnant, as a single woman. I had several inseminations with frozen donor sperm. I wasn’t getting pregnant, so the doctor suggested fresh sperm from a source he had. I got a weird feeling about it and said no. This is exactly what I was suspicious of! Interesting to learn that it does happen. It’s a violation because the anonymity is one-sided. It’s creepy! I ended up adopting, by the way.

At least he’s a doctor.

Having children being able to contact the sperm donors is almost always a bad idea. To find out the doctor was substituting his own is horrifying and the only good reason for it.

She wanted an anonymous donor. Should have kept it anonymous.
