ok so my theory for the ending is that "tommy" aka the demon needed someone to slowly eat the soul out of so it came to Candice after her sons death and used her sorrow to kind of hypnotized her into thinking it was tommy and that this was normal, and the proceeded to feed on her. when they were trying to protect her it took her somewhere else so it could eat her without them taking her :) and it kept her there because it wanted to not be seen or heard which is why it needed to pose as her son. oh and I and I have also always wondered why people in the U.S kept guns in their rooms... now at least I know why...
