I showed up to a normal swim meet yesterday. And Kathleen Baker, Michael Andrew, And Kendyl Stewart were all there. To race.

Katie Ledecky broke the 1500m freestyle world record on home soil a couple months ago.

Wow. Helluva job considering her pace was slightly off and she had to get out of the way of the lane line after the turn. Could've done 57.75 easy. But who am I, great race Kathleen. Go USA!

I was momentarily afraid she'd be DQ'ed for swimming under the lane rope. As it is, she basically swam a 100-meter world record even though she randomly swam 102 meters instead.

I didn’t even think she could go this fast after prelim. What a swim! Fantastic!!!

It's going to take sub 58 to medal in Tokyo. Masse and Baker will already be there and I'm guessing Regan Smith will be there, as well.

MrVpassenheim you guessed correctly, maybe a 57 just to qualify in the USA

Should could do 57 if she wanted to. I was afraid she was going to a hit a lane line being she wasn't going straight (easily corrected indoors when you can keep straight looking at the rafters).

From the start she looked like being in the "fast mood" didn't show any emotions... was like she had an adrenaline rush :)

.6 under record pace at the 50 LOL. Pace it a bit better and she’d have a 57

J She was up against the lanerope for like 30m of this race AND being outdoors disorients you since you have no ceiling to look at to keep you straight. A fuller taper, a bigger championship meet/more electric environment, a faster indoor pool...I wouldn't be surprised if we see a 57.3 at Pan Pacs

World record pace sometimes doesn’t matter tho, everyone races it differently. Some people bomb it on the first 50, some people (like Micheal Phelps) have a great second 50, it’s all based on the swimmer.
