Have you ever thought of a woman whose house got bombed, she lost her husband and all children and is now a widow and a refugee. Have you ever thought of a man or a woman declared infertile and living in fear always? Have you ever thought of a bed ridden person struggling with terminal illness, not able to enjoy many things which you enjoy? You cry and curse life over some girl or some boy whom you have liked and somehow cannot get married to. You cry over not getting a job while having a perfect health, family, 3 meals a day or over. You cry over and are ungrateful on being rebuked by your parents and on petty issues and sentences of relatives. You cry and curse life over mother in law and daughter in law fights. What do you know about pain? What do you know about (hasrat yani struggle) حسرت? What do you know about constant fear? What do you know about depression? What do you know about بے بسی and what has life yet tested you with? Go and thank Allah right now. Appreciate the gift of life, the gift of good health, the gift of being able to perform so many normal functions which others can’t! Stop sinning and go in prostration right now.

When you see the world through serene eyes, you generate peace wherever you go.

Women need to be economically savvy when requesting mahr. If there is a recession and serious economic turmoil, why would you request an amount that will bankrupt him? How will he carry out his duties after the marriage if his pockets are already drained? But alas, if the amount is ridiculous keep looking.

To any man who is not well off, remember that even women asking for this large amount is a blessing. If they ask for a large amount that you cannot afford then you don't marry her, simple. If you can't afford the Mahr then you won't be able to afford her lifestyle and that's that. God is protecting you from that stress

Hundred thousand dollars? Trying to stay married for a year or couple months... I'm not honoring that. Marriage is a long haul work in progress. We encouraged to practice sabr and anyone searching for an unnecessary large amount like that, upfront, probably has no patience to build with over a lifetime. When married the money is split in half anyway. Why you need a down payment for a mansion upfront?

Mahr is meant to support a woman after talaq and for a period of 4 months 10 days before she can marry again. Based on this the Mahr is to be calculated

Why would you marry a woman that is all about giving her tens or thousands of dollars or a fancy new car or even a house of her own? This to me seems extremely selfish and he shouldn't marry her. I believe it's better to marry a woman for her Deen and understanding of her role in a marriage and responsibility to her husband and future family. All that other stuff everyone is talking about is about ego and materialistic gains.

Sometimes a high mahr can be beneficial since it prevents men from divorcing their wife for no reason. When the mahr is low, men can easily divorce their wife when they become bored of them so a high mahr can prevent them from abusing the Islamic divorce laws. And again a high mahr is benefiting in certain situations.

Depends on what's ridiculous and to whom. The situation with brothers marrying and running away divorcing dlfew days later .or leaving wives in limbo iis ever increasing... So a high mahr demand isn't something out of order these days .its more to prove the man can support his wife and isn't just looking for a side chick. And marrying someone whose lifestyle u can't afford but want to live off her then thats another debate
