The Youngsters of today will never know the feeling of asking a young Lady to dance with you . Taking her in your arms at a proper distance , and stepping out on the floor to " Moonlight Serenade " , played by the big band sound of Victor Hugo's Band . Thanks for the wonderful memories .

More like great-grandmother. Most likely your mother was born in the 80s. Maybe late 70s. Grandmother's birth would be 50s. You need an adult woman in 1950s. That's great-grandmother. Good taste in music in 16 is rare, though.

I was introduced to Jazz since...I can't remember. Although I live in Argentina, and jazz is far from our roots, my father (1911 -2000) was a fan, and I knew Fats Waller, count Basie, Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington from my beginning to this world. Also women's voices, like Ella Fitzgerald, and many others. There is no other music that brings me such pleasure as this, except maybe classical music. I thank to this place in bringing back beautiful and romantic voices singing wonderful melodies form the best era: the past.

Turning 15 in July, hearing this kind of music gives me memories from a time I never lived. It makes me think how, fun it would be to dress up all pretty back then. Going out with friends without worrying of half the things people have to these days. Although there are many good and bad parts, it must have been such a different experience growing up in that time.

we tend to romanticize the past. there is great art from that time, but it was not easier than it is now. it wasn't glamourous for most people. especially if you weren't rich, were a woman and/or not white. we shouldn't sugar coat things. They don't have many of the same worries that we do now, but that doesn't mean they had less worries, just different ones (and some not so different)

This sure brought forward memories. Not just memories of memories. Listening to this while a slide show played in my minds eye. I was a very young girl, but I remember my mother dressed to match this era and music. Her seamed nylons held up with garter snaps. Her chestnut brown vinegar rinsed hair in curls and a few finger waves. Her velvet chunkier heeled peek-a-boo toed shoes on her tiny feet. Her beautiul dress, pearl necklace and earings. Her black seal fur coat adorned with her beautiful rhinestone broach. And the smell of her perfume. I still see the winter snow flakes that landed on that black coat as she got in our same era car on a snowy New Years Eve. Years moved on and I was then in my 30's. I popped over Mom's often. Another scene in my picture show. Dad has had his sunset and Mom now a widow. After some time, she was getting back to herself. I popped in. There she was rolling cookie dough in her apron singing along to these songs which played on our local WECK radio station. ( Old time music). Mom was hard of hearing and did not know I was watching her for a few minutes taking it all in. Boy, am I glad I did. Loved her joy. I'd say hello and she's say " That's a nice number". So much more. You get the gist. I am SO grateful that I was exposed to this music and the stories my mom had told me about certian songs. Goes to show, she held tight to memories too!! Bless you readers and sweet notes to all!

Hi, Natacia. If you're ready to have your mind blown a bit more, then start watching the pre-Code mvies from about 1930 through June 1934. Women in those films had agency and power in a way that they were later denied. "St. Louis Blues" is heard often in _Babyface_ (1933), one of the best of the pre-Codes. Best wishes from someone who started listening to Billie Holiday at age 16, in the dark ages before the internet gave us easy access (in 1977!).

@thomasjamison2050
@thomasjamison2050 2 года назад
@@davidfromamerica1871 Agreed, but that is not all that there is to it. It's a complex area technically in several dimensions. The best digital can not be beaten, but almost no one really understands what that is and it's certainly not autotuning, at least not in the sense that such is widely used today. But back in those days before computers and even TV, music was much more widely played by the majority of people, and it was also taught in the schools to a relatively serious extent. To graduate from high school in the 1930's, my mother had to pass a solfege exam. Most kids today don't even have the slightest clue to what that is, let alone have spent anytime learning to do it.
@thomasjamison2050
@thomasjamison2050 2 года назад

I have Teresa Teng’s 1985 NHK Tokyo Concert I downloaded from RU-vid years ago. It’s not available anymore anywhere in the World, not even on Yuku in China. One of a kind. @The Sucka: So you want to have lived in an era when Black people were routinely lunched in many parts of the country and had no political power? When women had no political power and very little freedom? When gay people could be imprisoned for living authentically? In other words, when only a minority of the population was free and had political power? Please don't make the mistake of glorifying past eras based on the art of the time. Yes, we face a lot of problems today, but overall human kind has made progress with regard to equal rights for all, and I do NOT want to give up any of that -- and I would hope that others feel the same way. Thanks.

Been loving this as a child late 60s. Played my parents record on a "Show n Tell" @78rpm. They told me to play my own records, their records were fragile like a chicken egg shell. Victor, RCA, MGM, International were some the company labels. The dept of the sound chirping thru a mono speaker was the greatest, 5 years old I thought I knew what the lyrics ment and sang or mumbled thru the song. I could only wonder what the old folks thought. My latter years began to believe I lived another life previously and grew up with an old man's soul. 🤔

Classical Tunes, I deeply appreciate your putting this together and sharing it with us, and I hope you won't mind a suggestion. The art for this is off in a few ways. The women have, respectively, a 1930s and 1920s hairdo and both are wearing 1930s dresses, but the title of this collection states that it's music of the '40s and '50s. And, people didn't use champagne flutes for drinking cocktails, nor did they use straws when drinking cocktails or champagne. I hope I haven't offended you, and I apologize if I have; I'm writing bc I think that you'll want to get the details right with future collections. Thanks.
