Hallo Michael! Wollte Ihnen nur sagen, dass ich sehr dankbar bin, dass sie Videos aus der Vergangenheit für uns Online zur Verfügung stellen. Mich fasziniert immer wieder wie Städte in China, Japan und weiteren asiatischen Staaten aussahen. Obwohl ich zu dieser Zeit nicht gelebt habe, fühlt es sich immer noch sehr nostalgisch für mich an. Meine Eltern kommen aus dem Irak und haben mir immer wieder erzählt wie schön Asien aber auch der Irak war. Ich habe mir letztens von anderen RU-vidrn angesehen wie Bagdad aussah und das hat mich sehr fasziniert wie aus einer friedlichen, fortschrittlichen Stadt ein Kriegsgebiet wurde. Ich hätte mir so gerne gewünscht ein Jahrhundert früher geboren zu sein. Alles Gute wünsche ich Ihnen!

As others have mentioned, at 7:00 you can see it's after 1991. I googled Shi Qingyun 12:08 and found that she became a member of the academy of sciences in 1993. I also googled Chen Muhua 10:43 who has a Wikipedia page and was Vice Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress from 1988 to 1998. So, to conclude, this video is mid-90s between 1993-1998, so 21-26 years ago. (posting without links)

at 0:57 one can clearly see the Chinese translation for Falcon Crest that is an American prime time television soap opera introduced to Shanghai audience in 1988 to 1990. The building is decorated with the same Chinese calligraphy of the title shown in TV and its emblem. So I would guess this is from an early 1990's film and yes you are right, about 30 years ago.

I was in China for 3 months, 34 years ago (1985) and no way was it like this! Nobody dressed like this. They only wore khaki or navy blue uniforms. This must be must later, like sometime in the 90s!

Yes. Must be 90s because of the following evidence: at 1:55 of the video, THE famous Chinese Aerobic exercise trainer Ma Hua evidently was teaching in a club and that’s in the 90s, her TV show was so popular that literally the whole country would be ready for her show and jump and stretch along with her! (Yeah including myself😅), sadly Ma Hua died from Leukemia in 2001 at the age of 41; at 6:43 of the video, the poster girl known as the “big eye” girl (1991), Su Mingjuan, featured in China Project Hope promoting and financing schooling and education in rural China and for poor families (initiated in 1989 and still running today). It’s also true that China is such a huge country and it’s developed unevenly. My impression is that most of the shooting in the film is done in Beijing. Thanks for posting this film. It’s so nostalgic…

This video also convinces me the 1980's was a great time for the upper middle class in China too. Analog video just like analog photography has something superior to digital no matter gazillion pixels and photoshop and other post processing is done to digital it never can match the amazing soul of a video like this.

我83年生人，这个一看就不是84年，84年我很清楚什么样子，这应该是在89-92年这个时间段，那个时候是刚开始有小资面貌的时候。。。。而且哪个女健身教练叫什么忘了 90年代初很有名，84年中国人还不是这种精神面貌，而那张著名的大眼睛望前方的春蕾计划宣传照的拍摄事件是87年，这张照片非常非常有名，so i guess its 1989-1992

at 6:42 is a very famous award winning black and white photo of a big eyed school girl from Anhui JinZai County that has become the icon image of China's Project Hope (to support rural area school kids for elementary education). The photographer 解海龙 has said his photo was taken in April 1991.

The ladies in this video are the perfect examples of natural beauty.I think Chinese girls nowadays are beautiful too but have the tendency to look more artificial because they are copying the Koreans a lot. No offense, but I prefer those old fashioned natural girls.I also love how this video presented Chinese women in a very diverse manner, showing all their domains of activity and various professions.It's an excellent detailed presentation.

It was much better back then than now in terms of how people treated and valued others. Most people back then was on a modest salary and basically no one was wealthy. Nowadays, money has become their god and many have become very vain. They can't talk a few sentences without bringing up the subject of money. How much does this cost? How much do you make at your job? How much did you buy your condo for?

When ever did you find Falungong in official propaganda? Impressive! Date is probably 92 - 93. Evidence: Falungong. Chen Muhua was in these positions from 88 - 98. In one place she quoted time 1991. Sports brand Li-Ning. The 'big eyes' propaganda picture for charity 'project Hope' was taken in 91.

Based on search on Google, population in China hit 1.2 B roughly in 1996. The Video probably was taken at that time.

This documentary was shot in Beijing,which does not reflect the true condition of the women outside of Beijing. Those two have a major gap both economically and socially.

@@snowdensakura Yes. 1993 at the earliest, probably around 1994 with a release in 1995 or so (these propaganda films usually had a terribly long production time since every clip and every word had to pass numerous levels of approvals). See my comments below.

According to Wikipedia, he "is a Dutch photographer, videographer and amateurfilmmaker". He has done a lot of work on post WW2 life in the Far East.

Omg the way how they make up really looked like some aunties whom i knew 😂 I born in 1992, my grew up environment was just like this video, and i just from a third tier city. Most of the footages are from 1990s. I found Jeanswest and Johnson baby shampoo in this video both of whom were brought to Chinese market in mid 1990s. Obviously this video was deliberately transferred to an aged appearance to attract Western audiences. It just looks fake and hilarious to me.

In the description box it says its a propaganda (probably why it seems staged) film that has been scratched due to lots of usage, I also think it was late 80's early 90s ..the owner of this RU-vid did not film this he is just sharing the film which he had from this time. Hope this helps

Why so many definitely deny some could be 80s? Beijing and Shanghai could be a lot difference. I had my hair cut in salon Hua an 华安 Shanghai cost me 80 RMB. Imagine in 80s😢😢 In 80s, Beijing's dessert non eatable. Ice cream taste like water.

China only gradually got better after 2000. This is ShangHai or ShenZhen or BeJing. The countryside is very poor and backward! The city is relatively prosperous, and the people's face and image are better!
