Every woman is different. Some people cry. Some people fight back. Some men fight. Some men do not. Men cry. Sometimes they yell. There are all kinds of people in the world.
RIP to both legendary Paul Whitfield and Mary Alice!! This was a powerful scene! Remind me of stories my late grandmother uses to tell me about family situations back in those days! Mama was fierce with that Shot gun!!
One of my favorite scenes too with one of my favorite lines from the movie. "So help me Jesus, you hit my child again and i'll meet your soul in hell."
This is my moma 100% though she let my father lead the household she was NEVER a soft spoken woman! If she felt like he was wrong he KNEW it and he fixed it before her rage began & he KNEW not to piss off moma.😂
There's a lot of things that can be done to a woman. But please please don't put your hands on a woman's child!!! Especially in front of her own eyes. It's going to be a bad day for you. Maybe your last day!!! Thumbs up for all mothers.
@@ericakelly123 back then things were different. The movie doesn't say why she left. She could've packed her stuff and left after what her dad did to her.
I know back than racism stop her for getting an Oscar. She payed the price so Halley Barry, Angela Bassett, Regina King, Viola Davis, and many more can have the opportunity to feel what it's like to win an Oscar. It took Mrs. Cicely Tyson in her 80s just to win an Oscar all because of race.
Because she hasn't made a lot of movies ,and those she did, well they were ok roles, she was in mostly TV which she won an Emmy and on stage, which she won a Tony Award
@@betterthanemril988 She could have gotten up instead of laying there crying. I would have dug that broom so far up his behind and kicked him in the balls til he turned blue. He was a narcissist!¹
What a dramatic scene. I really like to watch this movie whenever it comes on, which is every blue moon. When it does come on it isn't advertised so I usually catch it while channel surfing.
Yeah, she was too afraid to tell him that Butch got her pregnant because she knew and her mother knew if he found out he probably will have killed Butch.
@@chrisyoung5549 exactly. I understand that was her only child and she loved him so much but at the same time, though she should have allowed him to be more of a man to take care of himself.
Heavy on "you hit my child again and I'll meet your soul in Hell!". One of my favorite lines from that movie. Now that I'm a parent I absolutely relate.
Y'all sleeping on a father's love. He was disappointed in her, and she got pregnant by the town bum he told her to stay away from. That's why Mattie ends up on Brewster Place.
I couldn't imagine one o do my great aunt's getting pregnant by the towns bum, back then families had no pride and shame existed. Now any thing goes and families are a mess.
OK that’s where I drop the line I really hate when it’s so hard to tell the truth to a parent that you have to face the truth that but no I don’t like parents who slap their kids in the face or beat them down that makes me cry that makes me upset and God knows I don’t like parents who are cruel to their kids but now she had to tell him the truth and the truth hurts it hurts a lot
"He said, "I done made plenty of mistakes, aint done making em either" in reference to the Jones boy sleeping with girls...and proceeds to beat Harpo for her naive mistake🤔
@@ashleysmith8402 Thankyou 😊👍🏾❤️ btw I have a daughter, whos name is Ashley also,I name her off of Young and the Restless,Jack Sister, That was one of my favorite daytime soap opera 😁👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾❤️
@@prefershe mr, I cant stand people like you. What are you even talking about? Yall internet trolls stay trying to take people's comments in your own damn direction. Go stew in misery somewhere else. Bye mr!
Oh my God I’m so sorry that’s that’s not right that’s not right to do that to his child like if that was my daughter I would be really upset of a father’s abuse city but my god that was just too much
What’s embarrassing about being a virgin? That’s what we are supposed to be until we are married. Wait on the right one so that you won’t have soul ties and hard aches.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 we complain in the black community about white people portraying black people in a negative light, but who says anything when oprah does it to black men?
This movie and the book is about the strength and sisterhood of WOMEN. Was Oprah supposed to recreate the characters from the book? Why don't Black men write books and produce movies with positive images of black men instead of having them killing or threatening each other. I would love to read and watch it!
@@sbella6719 men writers do it too. So my point still stands. We complain about the white man portraying us in a negative light. But we do a damn good job doing it ourselves. Unruly, independent, single mother black women and thugged out, weak black men is how we are portrayed by our own ppl. Thank you for proving my point.
@@almightyfatal I don't know who 'we' are but it's not me. This movie is over 25 years old and currently people today find pretty much anything to complain about. I thought your comment was about how MEN are being portrayed negatively in this movie by Oprah. I was pointing out that it's based on a book focused on the resiliency of women in spite of the bad choices they made. The characters weren't prettied up but they had depth and heart and I'll take that over glossy 'reality' tv any day.
@@almightyfatal I will say though, I don't care for a lot of what's out these days which is why I enjoy watching the older stuff. And you're right, a lot of what's out is by Blacks.
@@sbella6719 I didn't make this personal. As a black man, I hate seeing that when a black woman or man portrays black ppl, we blame it on the white man instead. Either call out the right ppl or just shut up. Again, not speaking you. Just ppl in general
