Women of the Wall pray and read from a Torah in Rosh Chodesh Iyar, April 20th 2015
Women of the Wall have been fighting for the past 26 years to allow every woman the right to pray freely at the women's section of the Western Wall. A part of the prayer is the right to read from a Torah. There are over a hundred Torah scrolls for public use at the Western Wall, but women are not considered a part of the public, and they have no access to these scrolls. Since a regulation set in August 2010, it is not possible to bring in a Torah scroll from outside. Therefore, women have no possibility to read from the Torah at the Kotel.
On Rosh Chodesh Iyar, a group of male supporters helped Women of the Wall gain access to one of the public Torah scrolls for the first time. In a heartfelt and emotional prayer, and facing violence, women were finally counted as a part of the public.

נשות הכותל נלחמות מזה 26 שנה על זכותן של נשים להתפלל בעזרת הנשים של הכותל המערבי. חלק מחופש התפילה הינו לקרוא בתורה. בעוד ישנם 100 ספרי תורה לשימוש הציבור בכותל המערבי, נשים אינן נחשבות לחלק מהציבור, ואין להן גישה לספרים אלה. זאת, בעוד שתקנה מאוגוסט 2010 אוסרת על הכנסת ספר תורה מבחוץ. כך, לנשים אין אפשרות בפועל לקרוא מהתורה בכותל.
בראש חודש אייר, מניין גברים התומכים בנשות הכותל עזרו לנשות הכותל שיכלו בפעם הראשונה לקבל גישה לאחד מהספרים המוצעים לשימוש הציבור. בתפילה מרגשת, תוך שהן מתמודדות מול אלימות, נשים סוף סוף נחשבו לחלק מהציבור.
