Doesn't appear to have affected her overall career achievement and legacy since none of her medals are stripped away compared to Marion Jones and several certain Russians.
Suzy was a drama queen no doubt. But she suffered from bipolar issues that were undetected at the time. She later claimed when she saw that she was cooked she had a panic attack and fell on purpose rather than suffer the embarrassment of getting passed at the end. She later after retiring became a paid call girl in a really bizarre episode and her life fell apart. Don't know how she's doing now.
That's quite an onslaught to her character and reputation--not exactly balanced. The fall looks natural--sudden, awkward, unbroken. Yes, she does struggle on the final straight, after being passed by a few runners. But does she take a plunge because she feels she will look bad at the end? I don't see it.
