Nepal has achieved the first victory in the history of ACC Women's Asia Cup thanks to the outstanding batting performance of the opener, Mjakan Khadka.
The 2024 edition got off to a winning start by registering a 6-wicket victory over the UAE in Sri Lanka's Dambulla on Friday. Nepal completed the target of 116 runs presented by UAE in the 17th over losing 4 wickets.
For Nepal, the opener, Mjakan Khadka, contributed 72 runs while batting well. She hit 11 fours off 45 balls.
While scoring the first international half-century of her career, Yakkan completed her half-century in 35 balls. She took care of Nepal's innings by hitting 8 fours in that sequence. Pooja Mahato remained not out for 7 runs.
For Nepal, Sita Ranamar scored 7 runs, Kavita Kunwar scored 2 runs and Indu Verma scored 6 runs. Ruvina returned to the pavilion after adding 10 runs
For Nepal, captain Indu Verma took 3 wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs. Krithika Marasini, Sabnam Rai and Kavita Joshi took 1 wicket each. Ruveena Chhetri scored 18 runs in 4 overs and Sita Ranamar spent only 12 runs in 3 overs.
Nepal will now face Pakistan on Sunday. Then on Tuesday, Nepal and India will play in the last match of the group. India and Pakistan will play in the group match this evening. The semi-finals of the competition will be held on Friday and the final on Sunday.
Earlier, Nepal, which participated twice in 2012 and 2016, lost all the previous 8 matches. Nepal managed to register its first victory by reaching the ninth match of the Asia Cup. The Nepali women's national team won the toss in the first match of the ACC Women's Asia Cup. In the first match against UAE, Nepal's captain Indu Verma won the toss and decided to field first.
