Their first laps were so incredibly slow, it was essentially a 600 meter race with a warm up. That said, a 60 second lap isn't that impressive after such easy first laps.
So let me get this straight. Hall has run 4:01 for 1500m but can't win a race run in 4:25? That is absolutely ridiculous. This is why Australian athletics is so pathetic. It can only be down to poor coaching advice.
you're missing the point of tactical races. if i raced against usain bolt with a 20 metre start, but we had to walk to 50 metres(slow start) and then run (quicker pace). i would finish closer to him than if it was a quick run race from the start. a slow race (75 first 400) can be won by anyone really. true run races are where the fittest and strongest usually prevail. races that are slow then sprint finishes are very unpredictable.
Pretty sure it's to show their names so they know who's competing. They wouldnt want to get in the way of them warming up so they didnt do it from front
