Seeking donations for charitable causes is commonly perceived as a noble deed as it aims to help the needy people. However, many individuals or groups have indulged in running fake campaigns or scams to cheat the innocent public. One such scam was busted by NLTV when our reporter was approached by a group of five, all females probably aged between 21-26. They were collecting money from locals and businessmen in Dimapur. The female group was collecting the money by claiming that they are from Ravipur village of Rajasthan and are in dire condition due to lack of money, food and shelter. But when our reporter sensed some foul play and asked for valid documents, permission for collecting donations, they immediately posed as booksellers. Even their papers lacked any seal from a competent authority and they did not have any convincing answer to all the questions.
Instead they argued and later left the scene.
Now the worrying fact is that how easily such scammers are roaming amid the society and collecting money posing as helpless
