I am a Roman historian and I can tell you that white faces were what Roman ladies wanted. The whiter the better. Having said that, most wealthy Roman matrons did not wear make up. Only prostitutes wore make up, that's partly how men knew they were prostitutes. also those establishments were usually all located in the same area. If Roman matrons wore make up it was lead powder and what was left over after a jug of wine had dried up. Dried up wine particles were used as blush and lipstick. They used all kinds of concoctions to moisturize their faces.

Here in Arab Peninsula my great great mother had real kohl and she used henna as her hair dye to make it brownish red and henna as her nail polish so it would last forever! She also used camel pee for silky soft growth hair! Saffron water as her mask and goat milk for her body! Also kohl she didn't used it only for eyeliner she also used it for eyebrows! Yes before women used take care of themselves and loved make up!

They should have had the boys do this video. Before modern times, MEN wore a lot more makeup than women and if I remember correctly most of the stuff we have now (powder for our faces, lipstick) was originally invented for stage actors and the beauty of lords. No fleeked liner for their ladies.

Kohl was supposed to be mixed into a paste with a drop of oil and then applied with the equivalent of an orange stick. Women had special little pallettes (or however its spelled) to do the mixing on.
