On June 12th 1948, President Truman signed the Women's Armed Services Integration Act, giving women the same veteran status as men. This week, we are honored to recognize their accomplishments during Women Veterans Recognition Week.
"We are also here to raise awareness about the challenges women veterans may face when transitioning back to civilian life, so that we can work together as a community to offer the support they very much deserve," said Mayor Donna Deegan during a ceremony at City Hall earlier this week. "I encourage all citizens to join as we honor the remarkable women who have served in our Armed Forces, participate in events and activities that celebrate their contributions, and commit to supporting the ongoing needs of our women veterans."
