The British has also certain rights over 275 km or miles of Cyprus that not bases. @@kevinyaucheekin1319 Cyprus until recently was more than willing to get involved as they were in talks with Israel about hosting Israeli military logistics hubs on Cypriot territory, no not the British sovereign military base part. The area directly controlled by the Greeks. Not to mention while negotiating this with Israel Cyprus was also holding joint military exercises with the IDF. That is why they were threatened by Hezbollah, it had nothing to do with activity in the British bases (where the Cypriots have zero say) I guess it took direct physical threats to get the Cypriots to come to their senses on this issue.

I also think this was the biggest reason, because Turkiye was serious and would probably use the chance to f them up. Not to mention that Turkish people would support war against Israel if it was to happened tomorrow. At this point I think all countries with majority Muslim population would welcome such thing with a heartbeat, but governments are resisting.

@@ekoneko6958 I'm not sure I agree. The world has changed, I don't think the Turks would see any benefit in controlling a landmass filled with Greeks who don't want them there. It would be a long term liability. Look at the Russians going into Ukraine. Notice they aren't even interested in any areas which are mainly Ukrainian without many Russian speakers. They're only taking the areas which has a pro Russia Russian speaking population. Old fashioned imperialism where you conquer and directly occupy people is a lose lose scenario most nations understand. Look at Israel, they are one of the few who don't understand this and look how much they're struggling. What the Turks want is recognition for the defacto state in the north. Why would they want the headache of invading and administering the south? They're happy with where the borders are currently draw on the island.

@roontunes You can't blame Cyprus for what the British military bases on Cyprus do. Those aren't bases which Cyprus has invited the Brits to come use, the Brits took it by force and it is considered sovereign British territory. You can't blame the Cypriots for what the Brits do on those bases, there is nothing the Cypriots could do even if they wanted to. What you can blame the Cypriots for was their negotiations with Israel to host Israeli military logistics on the parts of the island they do control. But after the Hezbollah threat they seemed to understand this is a bad idea and are backtracking. But again, you cannot blame the Cypriots for what the Brits are doing there.
