Won't Retrieve Line! Let's fix the Zebco 33 Platinum

Matt, I'm having the same problem with many of my reels (Zebco / Shakespeare) with line retrieval. It appears that the spinner cone pins do not fully extend. I have to take all the slack out of the line after casting to pull the line tight against the spinner cone so the partially extended pins will catch the line. In all my newer reels, the brass line retrieval pins are pressed into a white nylon part that becomes worn away after what seems to me to be a short time (I'm 73, a season or three). I still have my first heavy Zebco rod and reel that I bought back in the 60s and it doesn't have nylon parts in the spinner cone so it's still a good reel. But nowadays, I like to use ultralite reels with 4 to 6 pound test line for river fishing. The newer reels just don't last AND, I can't find any of those white nylon small parts with the brass pin that extends for line retrieval. Are those parts available anywhere? The only part I can find is an entire spinner cone that pretty much cost the same price as a new reel. If my description isn't clear, I can take a photo for you showing the part with the wear. I would think the anti-reverse bearing fell out for a reason. There must be a problem with it. I would replace it. Worth the peace of mind. Don't want a problem out on the water.

Hello Matthew, Matt. why does that happen? I have never had that, too; me when I first got my ABU-Matic 120, the company recommended that on the retrieve, you should hold the line with your thumb and first finger, and that will never happen. I'm talking some 60 years with the 120, and I never had any trouble.
