There's something slightly irritating in Mr Everett's constant references to 'thugs' in the court of Shah Jahan. As if there weren't thugs pretty much everywhere at that time. In England, was Henry VIII not much more than a thug? Was the hanging, eviscerating and chopping up of Catholic priests on the orders of James I also utterly barbaric?

@@celestegoulding1191 Yes, the word thug comes from India but, it has nothing to do with the Mughals. No Mughal was a "thug" in the original sense of the word, the Mughals had nothing to do with thugs.

Went to Bundi last year. The best murals are the blue green ones in the Chitrashalah.

From the beginning of history and civilization unto the period of these paintings INDIA was the richest civilization of the world.Not just number 1 but far far richer than the next civilizations.Soon after this period you have a nation of poor shopkeepers (English)coming over ostensibly to trade but then manage to cheat and fool this mighty country and rule it for the next 300 years and make it the poorest . But over the last 60 years INDIA is bouncing back and in the next decade will be back to its rightful place.

best indian painters existed durng gupta era their work as seen in ajantha art, bagh caves, indian painting art died shortly after, survived in bits and pieces in buddhist miniature pal leaf art. persian painting is not indigenous and didnt represent indian mindset, they are also wierdly 2D, 3D art was already represented during gupta art. The only thing i appreciate of persian painting is their miniature size and use of vibrant colours. Bundi and rajput painting were some improvement but basically followed persian principles. the only indigenous indian painting survived was in folk painting of bengal and madhubani, rajasthani etc

Sir, SHAH JAHAN did not build the Taj Mahal. It was an ancient hindu temple which the MUSLIMS LOOTED AND RE-DESIGNED TO LOOK LIKE A MOSQUE TYPE STRUCTURE. IT was built by hindus much earlier than the muslims are claiming. No travel writers from Europe or elsewhere have ever written an account of the building of the Taj Mahal. It already existed and was built by HINDU INDIANS. Please research more before making false claims

sam Anonymous It is you who need to research before you post any such things. Theres no such claim of Hindu or Muslim here . Indo islamic architecture was the culmination of two great culture. Much of the mughal painters Bishan da, daswant and baswan were hindus under the patronage of Emperor Jehangir who himself was a great painter. The Taj Mahal and other architectural marvels are contributions of contributions of great minds and skills of entire Indians. Stop ur nonsense myths with you.
