Dragons eating Twinkies is the best thing coming out of DC Rebirth right now.

A friend and I were brainstorming as to why dragons love gold; here's what we came up with: • Gold is the most malleable and most ductile metal. (Deformation by compression and stretching, respectively). If you like to sleep on metal, Gold would be the pillow-top mattress of metal bedding. • Gold is the third best electrical conductor. Silver and copper are slightly better, but they're susceptible to corrosion whereas gold doesn't tarnish nearly as easily. • Gold produces a high frequency ring when struck, or even slid against other coins. Silver does this as well, if it's untarnished. • At high frequencies of electricity, conductors actually move electrons around the conductor rather than within it. This is called the "skin effect" • Gold's melting point is about 15% higher than Silver - little more wiggle room when breathing fire. Basically, gold isn't like diamonds. Diamonds are shiny rocks, which can be completely synthesized and produce gems of better quality than we rip from the Earth. The only reason diamonds are expensive is because dumb people are willing to pay a high price for them, and the DeBeers family (this may have changed) owns nearly every diamond mine on Earth and is very, very good at marketing. Gold WAS valuable because it was an attractive, extremely malleable/ductile metal. Gold is valuable today for both that reason, because of its use in electronics, and because it cannot be synthesized. Combining the malleability/ductility, electronic, and audible properties - it would absolutely be valued by a hoarding beast. Also given those properties, it's possible there's a metaphysical property of which we are unaware. Add on the psychic properties of a resource that wars have been fought over and yeah - dragons want gold. Or as we put it, "They like the way it hums." ------------------------------------ Additionally - I want to throw on that sleeping/eating gold would make a dragon's scales more resilient because it would add malleability. Mechanical properties of matter and the associated laws of physics are way too much to go into depth, but basically, the harder something is, the more brittle it is. In order to increase matter's toughness while maintaining hardness (to a degree), you have to introduce ductility/malleability. Interesting examples of this are if you take a cigarette (fairly brittle) and wrap it in clear tape, you can twist is all around and it won't break because of its adhesive bond to the malleable tape; and the Ulfbehrt swords (which there's a documentary about that I highly recommend if you want to see how Vikings produced swords of such a high quality that we can barely make better ones today - but it centers around the metals toughness and ductility). So... if dragons have extremely hard scales, sleeping on/eating gold would be a draconic equivalent to putting chapstick in the winter so your lips don't crack. --------------------------------------- Conclusion: Gold, to dragons, is a lovely sound, a pillow-top mattress, lotion, and a psychic beacon of greed - all in one. ---------------------------------------- Supernerd out.

I paused the video for a minute, came back, saw Batman and Wonder Woman fighting with Rob saying "You'll never be a French person."

This is the best thing coming out of this channel within the last couple days.

The gold thing works even further if you consider that dragons exists for ages and likely lived on raw gold veins before man came along and started mining for it. So they were likely just neutral at that stage and just fought each other over the tasty ore

i had heard of this story,and as with most other Wonder Woman stories,very unknown to most comic fans,waaaaaaay more complex,if not better,than more famous DC stories. Hats off to the artists,unbelievably high level of quality at a time when most couldn´t draw women without doing cheap porn. Oh Rob! i´m sure i´m not the only one that has asked but you should do the both the original WW run and the Azzarello/Chiang one(not trivial distinction here,Cliff Chiang was as much of a creator as Azzarello in doing that series) New52 ones,2 of the best DC series of this century

In JRR Tolkien novels there is a mythos around dragons that is called the dragons spell. Dragons are able to enchant anyone who hold their gaze too long upon a dragon and that allows the dragons to influence the victim's thoughts and emotions.
