There is no increase in this case, you can increase your chain by using multiples of 8 to your desired length so 8+8+8+8 etc then +1 on the end for the initial turning. That would be for a blanket though. Jumpers etc would be more complex, though the starting chain would be the same multiples of 8 + 1 for turning initially.
