You have all heard of the sound of music, but the Old Buckenham Airshow is a type of music with its own sounds. From a delightful trio of wonderfully restored vintage Spitfires, a one and only Bristol Blenheim, an airworthy B-17 unique to Europe, some electric planes and a finale of a Typhoon display from 29 Sqn, the Old Buckenham Airshow is a superb airshow.

B-17 Flying Fortress 'Sally B'
She is the only B-17 you can see flying anywhere outside of the US and has been fulfilling a vital mission commemorating those who died serving in the 8th Air Force during WWII. She's done so for the last 44 years thanks to a superhuman effort. She represents the 79,000 airmen who made the ultimate sacrifice. The IWM Duxford is the home of Sally B but is not part of the museum's collection. She is kept running by funding from the public.
Bristol Blenheim
Bristol Blenheim Mk.IF L6739 (G-BPIV) is the world’s only flying example of over 4,400 of this historic type built. In 1934 the owner of the Daily Mail, Lord Rothermere, challenged British aircraft manufacturers to design and build a small, high-speed aircraft which could accommodate two crew and six passengers - with the hope of it becoming the world’s fastest civilian aircraft. Frank Barnwell and Roy Fedden of the Bristol Aeroplane Company responded to this challenge with the Type 142 which first flew the following year. It quickly became clear that this eight-seat, twin-engined aeroplane was faster than any fighter in the Royal Air Force inventory at the time - which unsurprisingly caught the attention of the Air Ministry. They quickly ordered an initial batch of 150 of the type, accordingly modified to meet a light bomber specification, the first example of which made its maiden flight from Bristol’s Filton works in June 1936.
Trio of Spitfires
This was a right treat at the Old Buckenham Airshow, using three beautifully restored Supermarine Spitfires. Ray Hanna's famous Mk IX Spitfire, MH434, N3200 which was lost for almost 50 years after being shot down at Dunkirk and PL983 (G-PRXI), a Spitfire PR.XI, which is a rare survivor with just two ‘Mark Elevens’ remaining in an airworthy condition
Mudry CAP10C - Christophe Simon
Our very own Squadron Leader Ted Coningsby flies with award winning display pilot Christophe Simon in the CAP10 for a display at the Old Buckenham. Christophe won our honorary Ted Coningsby Display Award for his fantastic display at the Cosford Airshow 2023.
BEECH STAGGERWINGS DUO
A beautiful pairing of Beech ‘Staggerwings’ in British skies celebrates thereturn of a long-lost example after nearly 40 years away from the scene. For some with long memories, it was an extremely nostalgic sight. An immaculate Beech D17S, in the markings of the example operated in wartime by Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, back on the flightline at Duxford - the scene could have come from the early 1980s. Could, because parked with it was an array of warbirds unimaginable when last this ‘Staggerwing’ was regularly active.
RAF Typhoon Display
Well, callsign ANARCHY1 doesn't much of an intro for our TCS fans but for those that don't know, FLT LT MATT BRIGHTY is this years RAF Typhoon Display pilot. He displays with Ted's Typhoon ZJ914, nicknamed Blackjack. Brighty is a 29 Sqn pilot, who operate from RAF CONINGSBY
