Not many have thrilled the Essendon faithful quite like Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti.
The Tiwi Islander was drafted to the Bombers prior to the 2016 season and made an immediate impact off half back in a year when many of the playing list were missing due to the ASADA suspensions. From 2017 onwards he was shifted forward and became an outstanding attacking player and a deadly accurate kick for goal.
Blessed with great strength, explosive pace and an uncanny goal sense, you could always tell when ‘Walla’ was near the ball as the volume of the crowd would rise in anticipation of something miraculous. And more often than not, he delivered. He had a remarkable ability to conjure a spectacular goal out of nowhere, and his run-down tackles are the stuff of legend. Despite having a relatively brief AFL career, his highlights stack up with the likes of Hird, Wanganeen, Watson and Long.
Now that ‘Tippa’ has announced his retirement we wish him all the best for the future and thank him for the excitement he provided to Essendon fans over his 126 games in the sash. Please enjoy this career highlights package for one of the greatest cult heroes of our footy club. Thanks Walla, you will be missed!!!
(A thank you as well to my brother for yet another great intro design.)
