Knowing that this is the same person that directed Paddington, and knowing Rowant Atkinson aka Mr. Bean is in it and seeing the beautiful cinematography and Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa makes this a winner for me.
As someone who truly adores the original film, I legit got emotional watching this trailer. It’s like they took the magic of Paddington, bottled it, and poured it into a chocolate bar. 😭❤️
The original movie was one of my all time favorites and the remake with Johnny Depp was pretty good too. This looks like it'll be somewhere in between those two in terms of quality, and I can't wait for it.
Having the director of the Paddington films is a good choice. A movie like this needs a director who understands whimsy and wholesomeness and those words are at the centre of Roald Dahl’s books.

This looks so delightful, whimsical, uncynical and charming. Willy Wonka vs. The chocolate cartel, with what looks like dance numbers and even the gag about fining people for daydreaming? Really taps into the spirit of Roald Dahl imo

But when you look at his previous performances & then you look at this trailer it makes you think “wow in this trailer, Timothee is playing … himself” not Willy Wonka though
I was always curious about the idea when Tim Burton showed snippets of it in his adaptation. Like back when Wonka had a little corner shop at first with Grandpa Joe being one of his workers.
The Gene Wilder movie is legit one of my all time favorite movies ever. I'm 51 and have been watching it all my life. I love it more than I can say. And this trailer really, really feels like it captures that same feeling. I can't wait.
this looks like a fun and charming Christmas movie that i'm definetly checking out day one! Timothée Chalamet quickly becoming the big name he deserves and i'm all here for it!! :)
I didn't know this trailer was coming out! But, it looks really fun and Timothée Chalamet has been great in everything I have seen him in. I am excited to see his take on Wonka for sure
Johnny Depp's Wonka was always my Wonka and it feels like this will capture this perfectly as well as the older one many people like. It looks like a genuinely fun and magical movie and I'm very excited to see it!^^
This trailer gave me chills for some reason. It also reminded me of the greatest show man a little bit. Can’t not wait for this one. Great casting as well

I was expecting a dark depressing take, but I hesitate to say, This could very well end up being the best Willy Wonka movie. And if it is, that’ll make it the best of 3 excellent Willy Wonka movies.
Probably would be more exciting that way. In fact, there wasn’t really a wow factor that kept me interested beyond the flying chocolate. Not sold on it yet. It’s bland compared to the previous versions.
Okay after watching this trailer now I am hooked🤩🍫. It truly gives me those OG 70s Willy Wonka vibes with a bit of that Harry Potter magic and Paddington’s heartwarming flavor in it. I see this movie will truly being holiday blast.
Well greg....i look forward to your reaction of the original willy wonka and the chocolate factory. As much as its a family movie it has a lot of adult jokes that defintley went over my head when i watched it as a kid
So many trailers we get now are dull, formulaic action movies or hyper CGI kids (specifically talking animals) movies. This trailer is so fun, colorful, and has that feel of movies we used to get years ago.
My brother had gotten this for me on DVD and I just watched this yesterday evening. I was totally impressed with it! Timothee' Chalamet was amazing and he just took this iconic role and just made it his! I can see why this was well received both critically and commercially! 😎👍
Now we need Gregs reaction of the origianal. Absolutely one of my favorites! Hoping this one can live up to it's predecessors. We also need Gregs reaction of the Paddington movies.
I loved Willy wonka and the chocolate factory and the Tim berton Charlie and the chocolate factory but know it’s just nice to see how a Willy wonka started from wholesome beginnings and how he grows to the Willy wonka we know this is going to be great
I love all of Rold Dahl books as a kid. I was hoping they do a Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator as they have previously done Chocolate factory 2 times but still Timothee Chalamet is a gonna absolutely kill it as Willy Wonka and its good to Rowin Atkinson in here too.
this is giving very much fantastic beast but with candy! for now, im having a hard time digesting tim as wonka cause in my head he's a bit more eccentric. timothy here somehow feels more like a grown up charlie to me lol. the only thing keeping me interested in this movie rn is the sense of wonder, possible adventures, candy lore(!!) and OOMPA LOOMPA !!!!!
Whimsy is a great word for it. It looks so interesting and potentially fun! Except... when I was a little kid, the oompa-loompas scared the crap out of me, so just the few seconds of that song makes me shudder (lol). The question is, can I set that aside in order to see a movie that looks like it may be really sweet? 🤔 Plus, Hugh Grant may be funny enough for me to get through it. I never would have expected him to play such a character.

Timmy seems too cool 😎 to play Wonka. Not as gentle or strange or awkward in this trailer as I remember Wilder and Depp were in their movies. Hmm, streaming for sure. 😅
I love chocolate. And as a kid still to this day a dream DREAM would be to own a chocolate store or work at Hershey’s. That said as a child the original or even being born in 96 the Johnny depp movie never grew fond with me. And honestly I think it was the umpa’s that was just like OKAY THIS IS SILLY! But… doing 14 years of theater as a kid to a young adult going to school for special effects. Gene wilder is a true legend. And the first movie is just a blessing to have blessed this earth. His acting skills are great. And Timothy is growing on me as a star already so count me in!
To sum up my thoughts, i think this movie looks like a cool blend of the Tim Burton and 1977 versions, esspecially with Timothee Chalamet having the whimsy of Gene Wilder and the quicky craziness of Johnny Depp. Though I got worried when they showed Hugh Grant as the Oompa Loompas. I may be the minority, but the CGI and the OG designs made that uncanny for me. Other than that I'm very intrigued.
Each Wilie Wonka movie feels likes it's at a different stage in his life. I now the second is a remake but still they all feel like their different ages
Ok you got me... I'm looking forward to this. Even though I more prefer Burton's movie cuz it adapts the book better, i still enjoy the Gene Wilder one and this one is like a mix of both
Greg, you need to get on watching the Gene Wilder version. It's very different from the Burton film and definitely seems to be what this movie is based on. The Oompa Loompa design and the "Scratch that. Reverse it." line are straight from it. Also the setting is the same: definitely somewhere in Europe, and yet still somehow American. The 70's movie is my favorite version of this story, though I'm generationally biased on that.
This looks adorable. Definitely got Fantastic Beasts vibes in places so that makes total sense. Hugh Grant is already hilarious just from those few seconds lol. I'm looking forward to it, big big fan of the original.
What I dont get is why the world around him seems whimsical and magical in this movie, when in the previous movies the outside world was kinda dark, cold and felt real until you go inside the factory where things turn whimsical, magical, colorful, haunting and chaotic. Thats what makes those movies, especially Wilders movie, so great. It goes from to real world to being transported into Wonkas imagination via the factory.
Greg! 😮 You must watch the original with Gene Wilder at least before this movie. A classic. And both Paddington movies are awesome. You must watch them too. Coy is right; this movie has the Paddy feel. Looking forward to this version 👍✌️
You need to watch the original with Gene Wilder, still the best version of this film, so far. Although the moments with his mother seem touching and I'm always a fan of Sally Hawkins, but truthfully, this seems like a miss for me based on the trailer. I love Timothe and typically think he can't do anything wrong, but he seems a bit off or miscast here. Hopefully, I'm proved wrong.
I always thought the “magic and wonder” of Willy Wonka was a secret until the winners toured the factory….seems so strange that he was making people float in front of crowds of people.🤷🏻♂️
