OMG THANK YOU. its so hard to find a recipe for this that's based on just honey and sesame oil which is how the restaurants near me make it. all the recipes i've found are like your later recipe which has a whole bunch of other ingredients like ketchup and sweet chili sauce and aren't remotely like my memory of what honey sesame chicken is.
Made your tempura version today and messed up a bit, but even though I did it was actually incredible. Ashamed to say I forgot the soy sauce and I used super thin pieces of beast. My chicken stock was also too salty. Next time I'll do it right with some nice thigh, lower sodium stock and the all important soy. I was luck to find the same brand bean paste here in Sweden. Thanks for a great recipe!
Ohh nice! Yeah haha at the end of the day, even bad fried chicken...is still fried chicken 👍🏽👍🏽 Also yep yep I love low sodium stock (and soy sauce), cause u can be a bit more aggressive with using it, and add salt as needed afterward!
After just trying this recipe tonight, Here's my thoughts. Chicken was excellent. I will be double frying my chicken from now on. Vegetables were great especially the beans. Maybe less sesame oil, could be I just dont like the taste of sesame oil, to overpowering for me. Maybe more vinegar and lemon juice to give it more of a tang. Cant wait to do this again with lo mein next time. Thanks for the video, I'll definitely be makeing more of this!
Nice!! Indeed, 4tbsp of sesame oil is a HUGE amount of sesame haha. Maybe go with 2 tbsp unless you really love sesame. I might also suggest a pinch of dry sherry, if you have it! It would add a bit of brightness, if you find it lacking in that world. Lo mein sounds awesome! Let me know how it goes 🥰🥰
Yeah totally! Any pan with high heat retention will work. I use a cast iron pan in lieu of a wok sometimes, or even a stainless steel skillet would work too. I’d mainly avoid anything with a nonstick Teflon coating, which would have trouble getting hot enough. Let me know how it goes!
