Hi Brenda, It was an excellent video about how to burn (draw) the hair, I think which is one of the difficult parts in portrait burning. Your commentary and realtime video is very helpful to learn, Once again thank you very much for your tutorial.

You are most welcome. Creating the illusion of a 3D object on flat paper is something I can understand. Taking a block of wood and knowing what to do to whittling / carve it into some object seems very difficult to me. Wouldn't even know where to begin.

Excellent work Brenda. You're right that variation is the key to drawing hair. I also like turning my paper around to get that natural curve from my hand. I didn't realise Todd had done the music. It's very well done :)

Hi David, I totally agree with you and I often turn the board around so that I too can use the natural hand arc to work on curves. Yes, my hubby does the music. One of his many hobbies. Thank you for the wonderful comment.

Hello HAD, Thank you so much for the amazing comment! Like most things, once you know a few tips or guidelines to follow, it's pretty easy. When you create your drawings with long flowing hair, you don't draw each individual strand. Instead you draw the clumps or sections of hair. I'm doing the same thing, but some of my sections are smaller. You have a fantastic weekend too! I really did enjoy your pumpkin drawing.

Hey Brenda , hair can be a very tricky challenge for the artist. I always have to concentrate when trying to create /draw hair, and i emphasize the word TRYING. You seem to create , in pyrography , hair with ease, you have mastered it. As always you have posted a very detailed , in depth and informative tutorial video, the final artwork is stunning. Big thumbs up from me Brenda QOP : )

Hi Trina, I would have to say that I didn't think anyone would want to try and replicate what I did exactly. I just added a link to the blog on my website where I talk about this particular artwork. The blog is not a tutorial, but the source photo is in the blog. If you go look at the photo, you'll discover that I deviated from the photo to create this artwork. I will try to do that, but keep in mind that it will be a bit before I can get to it. Thank you for the wonderful comment! Brenda

When I see you work those wonders, it seems very easy, then inspired by your video I start to burn wood and I despair, my pen leaves marks, the stroke is irregular and again I start practicing the stroke, I don't know how many hours I have been practicing, It is desperate.
@PyrographyMadeEasy
@PyrographyMadeEasy 4 года назад
Hi Antolin, I will share with you the mistakes I made when I first started. 1) I had the heat too high, so the burn stroke started really dark and faded. Now I know to use a lower heat and burn over areas several times to build up the color. 2) I pressed the pen down into the wood. Now I know to use a light hand and let the pen tip glide along the surface of the wood. 3) I didn't properly prepare the wood before I started burning. Now I sand the wood, then get it lightly wet, let it dry, and sand it again. This produces a very smooth surface and that makes burning much easier. Don't give up as it will get easier as you become more familiar with your burner.

This is not a criticism but a curiosity. Even on other pyrography videos, the images look super smooth from afar and I'm curious to see them close up to see the details of the burns. Noticed this on my own projects and when sending pictures to friends. Could we see some closeup by chance? Ive found hair being my biggest challenge so far but these videos are SO helpful! Thank you
@PyrographyMadeEasy
@PyrographyMadeEasy 2 года назад
Hi Eric, Your comment isn't offensive to me. I've gotten some offensive ones, so I know the difference. All art looks better from a distance. Or as my husband loves to tell me, art isn't meant to be viewed with your nose almost touching the board. That said, I will keep your request in mind for future videos. One of the difficulties I have with video is that my video camera tends to go blurry if I zoom in too close. I do take high resolution photos of the final artwork that can be zoomed in pretty far. The photos are available on my website and blog links are in the video description. The main photo at the top of the blog would be the one with the highest resolution, so you might be able to see the type of detail you're after.

Hi Brenda beautiful work, thanks for sharing. Quick question. Why don’t you transfer the photo before burning instead of tracing? Wouldn’t be more easy to see the details that way?
@PyrographyMadeEasy
@PyrographyMadeEasy 4 года назад
Hello Annya, I tried ironing a pattern onto the wood once and didn't care for it. For one thing you can't alter the lines. Plus it wasn't easy to tell the areas I had burned versus the transferred areas. To me it seemed like a waste of time to burn over it. Plus if the wood is too thin the ironing method can cause the wood to bow. Another consider is that I'm not overly sure that burning over toner ink is safe. Any other method of photo transfer requires some sort of transfer medium. Again I'm not sure it would be safe to burn over any of those mediums. So I stick with my method I've used for 40+ years. It's cheap, doesn't require anything special to do, and I have complete control over what I want to transfer to the wood. Thanks for the question.

The real time chart is very good idea, without it, the apprentices think that we have to move very fast and it doesn't work.
@PyrographyMadeEasy
@PyrographyMadeEasy 4 года назад
Thank you. Doing the real time chart was the only thing I could think of to show how slow pyrography really is without having my videos being many hours in length. I doubt that there is anyone who really wants to watch 5 hours of me burning in hair. :) Thank you again for the comment. Have a good weekend!

Получилось очень красиво))), а если выжигать портрет с фото из времён где они черно белые))) как делать теже волосы и тени? Делали ли ли такие работы? Может вы бы показали как это делать с такими же этапами,если вам не сложно))))?
@PyrographyMadeEasy
@PyrographyMadeEasy 3 года назад

@PyrographyMadeEasy
@PyrographyMadeEasy 4 года назад
(Hello. Thank you for the great question. Any solid pale wood will work wonderfully. I like to use basswood which I believe is called European Linden outside of the usa. I also like maple and poplar. I would avoid plywoods. Plywoods tend to have a pitted surface that is much rougher than solid wood is.)
