This is a walnut bowl that i the Hampshire wood turner started several years ago, and have now decided that i should complete it. I did make a stupid mistake and bore a hole straight through the bottom and ended up making a plug for it. The Milliput i tried for a marbling look which i was very pleased with
I try to use this woodturning channel as a platform to share ideas, and to demonstrate to other wood workers the steps needed to achieve this.
I use many different types of wood in varying combinations, as well as combining this with resins, i tend to use glass cast 50 as i can use this without the need of a pressure pot.
For my finishes I use things like Wood dyes spirit based and water based, high gloss wax and
Boiled Linseed Oil - Danish oil and hard wax oil. I also like to experiment with differing textures to give my bowls a different feel to them
For my actual wood turning i use a galaxy DVR lathe 14 44 which is very versatile, which gives me the ability to turn a 14-inch bowl or spindle length of 44-inchs
Thank you very much for watching my channel and please feel free to leave comments below.

My heart SANK when you showed the hole. I could see your pain and frustration. It happens my friend. The human mind gets focused in 1 direction and loses sight of other matters. Your work is FANTASTIC. The shape is truly classic. Your techniques show real experience and thoughtfulness. I admire you for your work. Congratulations my friend. Beautiful production and skillful turnaround. 👍

Thank you for your sympathy Dwayne, I had never done that before and i couldn't think of a worse piece of wood to do it to. The worst thing was i ruined my cutter and took a chunk out of my chuck, just to add insult to injury. Apart from that many thanks for the compliments and i am glad your enjoying the videos, do you turn yourself?

Oops! Great recovery though.... The marbling effect was absolutely stunning and the bowl is superb but best of all was your presentation - absolutely perfect, we loved it😍

Nice save from the drill through, that would have been so heartbreaking. I'm glad you decided to put the inlay on the bottom rather than the top, I think it looks more balanced than the other way. It might have been different if you put the grooves and inlay on the other end, hard to tell. I LOVE the gold in the pith cracks! It shows up so well against the dark heartwood!

Hi Jim glad you liked it, this piece was quite frustrating as everything that could go wrong seemed to go wrong, but i think in the end it turned out OK, hope you enjoy some of my previous videos

Good save. I wonder if, to disguise the grain change of the plug, you could have (or could now, if your recess is still in the bottom) turned a groove around the plug to make a marbled milliput ring to match the outside. Anyway, it can be even more instructive to watch a recovery like yours than to watch an easy success, so thanks for the lesson.

Thanks Gord, That is a very good idea i think i will give that a try. The wood turning club i belong to always frown if you don't remove the chucking point but there have been many times when i have regretted that as i would like to remount the piece, im glad i didn't with this one

Well Steve the way I see it is you had your chance to make the bottom the top, and the top the bottom by plugging the other end. Lol. Is that two part puddy really called Milliputt? It was still a very enjoyable video, with a great outcome. Thank you for sharing. I hope to see you on the next one

Thanks Albert, That one was very taxing and i was glad to finish it, there was more Than once i wished i had left it on the shelf. It really is called Milliput its made by a small family run firm in Wales, I think it was originally made as some sort of aid to plumbers because it sets under water

I thinks it's the walnuts fault. The last funnel I turned was walnut 😂

Well that's cleared that up, I didn't possibly think it could of been my fault. LOL
