This is a segmented bowl with twisted segments. I designed a fixture for cutting them on the band saw. They fit so good I did not need to sand any joints.
Makes a vortex design.

I just truly need and want to see how to make this beautiful piece, including jig. I have no idea how to make that jig but would love to make the finished art. Made the jig as per your instructions in the RU-vid video. Went perfectly. Cut my first set of segments and they glued up very well. Next step is cut the rings as shown in this video, stack them, and turn the bowl. This has been a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing!

Yes, please show us how you made the jig. That is a stroke of genius cutting two pieces together so that they fit. I would not have thought that.

Thank you Mark. Cutting 2 pieces together stems doing something similar to that working as a wood pattern maker. The fixture video is pretty much done. I cut 12 segments on it and glued them together and figure I should turn them as well. I hope to have it uploaded for next weeks Friday video. Thanks for watching, Gary

I had much this same idea to produce bowls with curvy segments, but got stuck on how to cut the curves so that they would fit together. You have solved that problem with your fixture. My next question is how to cut pieces like this with 2 (two) curves in them. One concave, and one convex, more like a flame. I imagine it's much like the process you showed, but trickier with either 2 fixtures, or one much fancier one. I'd be interested to know your thoughts on this. Mark

Your bandsaw jig is brilliant, Gary! I would like to see a video on how you figured out the distance between those 2 pegs to get the angles for a 12 segment disc to work out so perfectly. Thanks so much Gord! Please don't tell anyone but I think I like making these jigs and fixtures as much as turning. Well on this one for sure. I will be making a video and show how I found the centers for this one. Once that is understood it will be easy to change to more or less segments. As long as you can figure the chord length of an angel. Now there are calculators for that. But at work I had to use trig. But we will start with this one! Thanks for watching my friend, Gary

Hmm, cord length of an angel. I think I took that in first or second year electrical school. But since that was over 50 years ago I might have a little trouble remembering that. He was selling a lathe on Craigslist and I went over and bought it. He told me how he made videos on RU-vid so I looked it up. It was the lathe he used when he first stared making videos. Thank you very much Bruce, this one was especially fun and rewarding for me. The turning was kind of just a standard turning but I love the planning and making of fixtures. No worries on the reply as I think there has been issues with a lot of things lately. Seems like the comment section has been fixed. Hi Gary... 4 days late booooom ... Haha... That is a beautiful bowl... this video was so interesting... firstly the segment cutting bandsaw jig was very clever... I spoke to Huw earlier this week and I understand that you are going to make a video about the making of the jig... I will look forward to seeing that... secondly... the 45 degree ring cutting jig is a brilliant idea and is something that I must get... there is almost zero waste on the wood ... just what I need... I was talking to a friend today about making one out of metal... and lastly the polycrylic finish was lovely... I haven't used it but would certainly like to give it a go... great video... take care...All the best.....Andy
