In this wood shop video I setup new Rikon 1 HP Grinder and show the features. I will be setting it up for a Wolverine Sharpening system. I go through the steps to set the grinder up with a one-way Wolverine Grinding system. This is a great system to sharpen Wood Turning tools. It uses a set of jigs that hold the tool and create a repeatable edge every thing.

Mount whole system to a piece of 3/4 ply screw ply down to workbench. If you ever need to move the system unscrew ply with system move to new location re screw down. One time deal

Great idea. I sort of did this as it is the only think really on the top of this cabinet. If I needed to move it I could just take it off the cabinet and go. The cabinet being on wheels is nice for me.

Lol, you do a lot of mumbling. I didn't really understand what you were doing or why you were doing it. I just bought this system and was looking for instruction on how to set it up. Good luck with your system, hope it works well for you.

Why didn't you put on the CBN wheel when you had the wheels off?

I don't have a good shim to convert from 5/8 to 1 inch. I bought one and it was only 1/2 an inch wide but I needed a 1.5 in wide one. I may try to turn one out of walnut, if I get a 5/8 forstner bit. But I haven't made it that far yet. I was also worried about the wobble and wanted to see if I could get past that.

Thanks for the video. I'm looking at getting the same setup, but I'm wondering if I really need the 1HP grinder. Do you think the 1/2HP Rikon would be enough for sharpening lathe tools?

Yes a 1/2 HP motor grinder would work just fine. I did a video showing more information about my setup and answered a few more wood lathe tool sharpening questions that were prompted from this video. Absolutely it is enough. Baldor and Dayton make 1/4 horse industrial grinders, so 1/2 horse is certainly enough to take 1/32 of and inch off a chipped blade.

@@woodworkerroyer8497 it is worth noting that those horsepower ratings are deceptive as rikon measures it at peak horsepower vs the other brands measuring continuous running power

Looks like you made things too complicated. It should take about 15 minutes to have it set up. If you had bought the CBN wheels, you would not need the guards or be required to remount them. Oh well !
