Thanks for showing each step! I've seen another person carve this, I was gonna do it myself but I was wondering how to carve the ball. The other person was fast forwarding almost whole video and never stop to show what he was actually doing.
Love this sort of thing. I have a collection of my dad's whittling pieces like this from his WWII days aboard the destroyer USS Laws in the South Pacific. So many sailors aboard that vessel turned to crafts to fight off the boredom leading up to the battle of Okinawa. I have no idea what to do with the pieces but will never get rid of them. Your kids will someday look at your collection and probably say the same thing. Great work, loved the video format, and the book was so long I fell asleep reading it, grin.. Got my clings, thanks a lot. NOTE to anyone with the clings, DO NOT DROP THE PEELED CLING ONTO THE DUSTY SHOP FLOOR, IT WILL LAND STICKY SIDE DOWN!
Hi Doug, I know you are on a hiatus but I have searched for all of your videos and then this pops up after I thought i had found them all. Great carving! Hope to see you back on youtube sometime this year. God bless.
Your are so talented in your wood carving!! It's AMAZING!! You should carve out little figurines of you, Joe Robinet, Shawn and Scrambled O as a box set. I would totally purchase them. My 4 favorite RU-vidrs ❤
At the end of the day, it HAS to be a good feeling (whether YOU think so or not) to know you compare, if not rival, some of the finest craftspersons out there. ENJOY that sentiment (as well as my run on sentences)!
Thanks for the extra video. For some reason I feel I'm gonna cut myself before I get it done, but I'm definitely going to try doing this. Cool little carve.
Awesome thanks for sharing this Doug! I am finishing up a chain from a solid block of wood at the moment and I want to try making one of these next. Im Happy you posted this video for me to follow along and see how a pro does it. Thanks again- Cheers!
Just got my first "real" carving knife for a Christmas present and shortly there after got my first thumb cut (dang those blades are sharp and make a bloody mess)…… can't wait to try and do one of these ball in cage!
I made one of those when I was a young Boy Scout. Hanging out in the camp site at camp that summer the leader had a bucket of bass wood blanks. I bought a whittler knife at the camp store. I still own that knife. I’m getting encouraged to get it out and use it again. Keep up the great videos.
Thanks for the hearts Doug! Happy new years to you and your family(: god bless you all! Cheers from Australia(: Edit; PS, when I carve my first "thing" I'll be sure to send it to you whatever it turns out to be(:
This reminds me of being young and seeing how many movable rings we could carve on our walking sticks before the damn thing broke. Going to try this next....not on a walking stick of course. Thanks!
So fun to watch you whittle and the music you picked is Top Drawer, love it all! Peace and Good Fortune to you and yours! Happy New Year! Look forward to More of Doug Outside in 2019!
Would love to see the long version.miss hearing your banter... Ace little project to try over the winter months aboard my narrow boat in the UK ;) cheers Doug.
Doug your carvings are awesome but I can't wait to see some more of your outdoor adventures. Seeing you out on your adventures has inspired me to get my channel going again and to share my adventures again. All the best to you in the new year.
AH HA, I know that you could do it, remember that I asked you last year about this, and at the time you completed this, thanks Doug you always come through! Wishing You, your Wife and whole Family a very Happy New Year, and many more to follow!
Thanks for all the great videos Doug, I have learned a lot from them. In one of your videos, you showed a wood spirit you carved into a pencil, would love to see a video of how you did that sometime. Thanks again.
Nice piece Doug. That is a keepsake, for sure. I can't draw a straight line with a ruler. It beats Joe's spate of reruns. Thanks to Shawn for having the humility to thank Joe, anyway.
I've watched you make this before, but had to watch again when I saw the upload! I just realized a practical use for this; it would make a fantastic pet rabbit, or even pet rat toy.
Another cool carving video, stop it before some one gets hurt LOL. You got me back into carving by mistake from your "Show us your steak" video, thanks a lot. Be well and be blessed in the new year brother.
When I worked in Algonquin Park in the 70's, there was a lad from Madawaska who would carve a working pair of working pliers out of one piece of wood. I still have mine.
There's a new video on YT of a guy carving a wooden headrest out of a single piece of wood it's hinged in the middle check it out it's a cool video. Probably come up as hinged wooden headrest carving.
Ernst “Mooney” Warther of Dover, Ohio would do that a lot. He once carved a tree with hundreds of tiny pliers as the branches. Visit the museum of his carvings if you ever get that way. He carved the history of steam power from ancient Egypt to 20th century steam locomotives. One is a detailed scale model of the Lincoln Funeral train done in ebony wood.
Thank you. Very much that was one awesome video you are extremely talented person. I am hoping that you have had yourself a wonderful Christmas and your family too I'm glad that you are still safe please be safe for the New year's Eve and God bless
Good Morning Doug - That was a fun one. Really enjoyed watching the speed version, but it made me drink my coffee to fast. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. Happy New Year!
I hope you and your family have a Happy New Year! I just discovered your channel earlier this year. You are one of the coolest people on RU-vid! I look forward to seeing what you have planned for next year!
