When my daughter and I were going for a walk I came across some Oak shipping dunnage and had been holding onto it for a few years. I came across these "retro" Edison bulbs in a local store and bought a few. I have a number of styles now but settled on the classic look.
For the wiring, I used an Ikea fabric wrapped hanging lamp cord.
The total materials cost for the project is probably around $20 Canadian.
I cut to length and sanded the oak to 240 grit so that I would leave a lot of the texture from the rough cut lumber.
Finding the center of the wood, I drilled a 2" hole deep enough to conceal the light socket and wiring. A hole was later drilled that allowed me to pass the wire through and up the central hole. After connecting the wire to the socket I pressed it in flush.
I applied 2 coats of Tongue oil and let it dry.
I hope you enjoyed this one, and please if you haven’t already, please like 👍 and subscribe 😁

Thank you for recording this hole proces. I'm making concrete lamps, now for over a 3 years - but I'm searching for idea for some useful thank-you gifts for my wedding, that I can make. We are talking about 40-50 gift. So, concrete would be complicated and heavy 😁✌⚒. But, this seems like a nice idea to try. (If you are #woodlover, of course 😇☕⚒) Greetings from Croatia!

Enjoy! I found that some big box stores now have kits so you won't need to take any apart.

That's a great idea to drill out relief holes for the forstner bit. Thanks!

Thanks! I like to watch a lot of metal machining videos and I figured it was kind of like a pilot hole except I had to leave the centre so the bit would go straight but it made it so that my tiny drill press could work a lot better.

Lovely, nice and simple. What finish was it you used?

Hey, thanks for watching! I used tongue oil I haven't used too many other finishes but find this one to be very easy and forgiving to apply.

@@heyimamaker No problem. I'm not familiar with that finish tbf but I'm always up for finding new products - especially ones that are, as you say "forgiving and easy going". Great stuff, cheers pal 👍
