Cheers Sparky, yeh I'm a bit OCD to be honest 😂 No point in doing a job if you don't take pride in your work, that's what makes it enjoyable for me. Thanks for the comment mate 👍

Hi Barry nice to hear from you again that's a good bit of fencing right there 👍 and the time taken to get it set out right from the start is key, and glad to see you're still keeping busy, all the best to you and the family.

Do you think this method of fencing is the most suitable for fencing on a bend/curve? Thanks.
@Bacrenfencing
@Bacrenfencing 2 года назад
Yes, best to use vertical slats, if the curve is tight, then use narrower boards such as 1800 x 100 x 19mm - this makes it easier to go round tight curves. Hope this helps

Hi Barry...Absolutely stunning fence! I had only ever thought about 'feather edge' fencing, until I saw your videos!😀Is it fair to say that a 'hit & miss style of fence is more expensive than feather edge? I'll be doing my own six panel fence in the next few weeks. Thanks
@Bacrenfencing
@Bacrenfencing 2 года назад
Thanks David, yes, Hit & Miss style fencing is pretty expensive to so as you pretty much need double the amount of slats and the slats are also thicker than feather edge (19mm thick). Hope this helps !

Hi Barry great videos, looking at attempting this style myself (DIYer) what size timber do you use typically? Thanks for sharing your videos
@Bacrenfencing

Thanks Paul, list here - 100 x 100 x 2400mm posts, 88 x 38 x 3600mm rails, 100 x 19 x 1800mm slats. Hope this helps mate.

Tidy job. Do you find the fiberglass spoons bend when digging clay soil? I changed mine out to metal handles and they are far better
@Bacrenfencing
@Bacrenfencing 2 года назад
Thanks Chris, the ones in the video are Roughneck and they are pretty good to be honest. I also have fibre glass Spear & Jackson ones which are a bit more flimsy, but nice and light. I also have wooden handled Spear and Jackson which are pretty good. I have recently invested in a set of Carter Shocksafe spoons (£150 quid 😩) but still getting used to them - they are heavy and work on a "backwards" scissor action which I am not used to.............I plan to do a video on all the different types that I use to point out the pro's and cons. Recently bought the Carter KingSumo fencing spade, if you are going to be doing a lot of fencing, that is worth looking in to. I will do a review on it soon. Thanks for the comment, much appreciated ! Hope you are keeping busy mate 👍

@@Bacrenfencing yeah mine are the roughneck ones but both sets cracked at the spades by the bolts. Those handles are now part of a ladder in my lads play area 😂 I've seen those reverse spares but shuddered at the price. Be really interested in your review, I'll look forward to that. Today I did my last fence from the storms a little while back. Made good time,.seven bays of 6.6ft featheredge panels into concrete posts and boards. Arrived at 8am gone and finished by 1.30. the old fence and dig was really kind, doesn't happen often 🤣 thanks for the reply pal and I'll look out for the next vid 👍
@Bacrenfencing
@Bacrenfencing 2 года назад
🤣 Yep, I have been through a few sets for exactly the same reason, especially the spear and jackson ones and can't find spare handles anywhere ! Those bloody bolts always come loose as well...........That is the main reason I bought the Carter shocksafe set as they are solid and professional grade. I use the Stihl BT131 auger as well but depends on the ground conditions 9 times out of 10, the areas I work a laden with boulders and tree roots which renders the auger useless ! That's good going on the feather edge (I watched your video a few weeks back when you done more than that..........I was tired just watching you🤣), I'm too old to be out killing myself 😊I used to knock my pan in, but have learned to charge a premium and take my time and aim for quality - that is my business model and suits me. Can't keep up with demand at the moment. Take it easy mate !

Roughneck send spares out for nothing I think. My opposite action doubles broke at the bottom. They just send out the new bits

Howdy from Dallas. I got out of the fence business years ago. I used to charge $1 per LF for fencing labor. I wonder what today's labor pricing is these days? -- Thanks
@Bacrenfencing
@Bacrenfencing 2 года назад
Hi Tom, to be honest, I never charge by the foot - I price each job individually as there are so many variables. I tend to charge a day rate and add my material mark ups and gross profit on top. That seems to work fine and helps grow the business. Thanks for the comment and say hello to Dallas from Scotland UK 😎

@@Bacrenfencing - Nice. George Galloway country. I work on single family residential rent homes (property managed by corporations), I do jobs so fast that a day rate would cut my throat. I charge by the job or task. I usually average $400+ per day in pure profit. Example, I just did a new kitchen faucet install for $124 labor. It took me 20 minutes; and then on to the next job (or task); many times in the same rent house. One recent super expensive rent house ($3,000 a month rent), had 18 different task; each task got maximum labor profit squeezed out of it. Corporations never ask me "how much?," They only ask, "When?" : )

@Tom Sounds like you are doing well Tom. I made the decision a couple of years ago really, to set up and grow an actual fencing business, so that is what I'm currently doing. I enjoy the challenge of growing a business from scratch. The day rate factors in growth and profits etc, so it works out really well for me. I have a property background and own and operate my own rental properties, so I am no stranger to that line of work, but I have a passion for fencing for some reason...........I think it is the feeling of freedom working outside all day.........and seeing the final product making a difference to peoples lives that I enjoy. I also have a corporate management background from the Oil & Gas industry, so I bring all of that 20+ year experience into what I am doing now. It's funny how life works out, if you asked me 10 years ago what I would be doing in 2022, I never in a million years would guess that I would own a fencing business........... Good luck in what you are doing Tom, I used to do the same. I used to love doing the renovations and charging per "task" that you could rattle through many in a day - some good money to be made if you become super efficient. Well, that's my life story...😂 - best of luck with what you are doing Tom and I will say hello to George G for you !

@@Bacrenfencing - That is awesome that you are building a multi-employee business. I've always been kind of a loner and introvert. Therefore rental remodel, repairs, and renovations suits me well - ("A man, his tools, and his thoughts..."). We are both lucky to have found something that we enjoy and that there is a huge demand for our services. : )

@@Tom-Travels Awesome Tom, I know what you are saying. I am very similar to yourself, but as time goes by and we get older :-( I am just planning for the future. I will not be able to be out fencing every day as it is hard physical work. I would rather build the business and run the business in later years without having to do the manual physical labour at the age of 50+ ........... I still love doing it but it takes it's toll on the body. I am glad you love what you are doing, it is great to get up in the morning and spring out of bed to do something you love - something very few people experience. Good luck to you Tom !
