I'll be sure to stay tuned to this channel. I just receive so much from the entertainment business. That's what makes it so difficult for me to concentrate. Also, past memories can and will do it.
Most modern mandoline slicers have a sliding hand guard to hold the food item and protect the fingers! ~ he could have made a matching guard with wood and food-safe stain on it 😉
Excellent resto! When I first saw the thumbnail, I said "that's a kraut cutter!" My grandmother used a similar one, which my dad has somewhere. I remember when we made sauerkraut one summer--lots and lots of cabbage shredded and packed in crocks. I know people are saying it could be used for other vegetables, not just cabbage. Of course it can but what it mostly was used for was cabbage.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, that's right, this item it was designed for cutting cabbage, but nobody stops people from from cutting other veggies too.
Thank you, Alex! I'm glad you like the laser cleaner. When I'm restoring kitchen gadgets I'm always using food-safe products, because most of the items are going to be used 🙂 Cheers!
I'm glad to hear that about food safe products. I understand a lot of the time many objects are "restored" just for looks and won't actually be used with food. However, in my opinion, to "restore" something is to return it to being capable of full use, even if it is going to be set on a shelf to be looked at.
Beautiful restoration, as always! I question whether this is strictly a cabbage cutter; it operates exactly like a mandoline, which is used to slice all kinds of vegetables and would have been more useful in a 1900s kitchen than a single purpose tool. My only quibble would be not to use a dark stain on this because a light stain, or better yet, a lime wash would show food particles a bit more clearly and you'd want to keep this clean, like any other kitchen tool. Better make yourself a pusher to use on the vegetables, too, or you might find yourself without fingerprints someday!
Thank you! Yes, a pusher or some cut-proof gloves will help. By design, this is a cabbage cutter, but other veggies can be sliced too. Please read the description for more information! Cheers!
Wow, it's beautiful again. I just might be persuaded to make coleslaw or cabbage soup! I have a much smaller one, so maybe I will clean it up and use it. You do wonderful work.
I've always been convinced that the mandolin was necessarily a tool that came to us from Asia... Too bad for me! (I think the blade could be sharper, but watch your fingers!) Wonderful, thank you very much!
I was thinking that zinc on the blade would resist future pitting. And you MUST operate it with a pusher: I have sutured up two peoples fingers and palms from these devices. They certainly do cut well, and don’t care if it’s vegetables or flesh. Nice tool!
@@rustyshadesrestoration I have used a stainless mesh glove while butchering things, and it certainly prevents the inevitable nicks one gets, and improves grip as well. I found that soaking it in detergent and a mild acid followed by agitation cleans it well. Should work fine to keep fingertips in place with these devices.
Thank you! 🙂 I forgot to renew my subscription to epidemic sound, and if I use it without, I will get a copyright claim. 😅 But if you enjoy it, I will start using it again.
Hi Vickie! I'm glad you enjoyed the restoration process and the engraving. I'm always using food-safe products when it comes to kitchen gadgets. Most of them im keeping for personal use, so I need to be food-safe. 🙂
Subscribed! My knees went a bit wobbly when you were testing the slicer afterwards as it's so easy to end up slicing yourself on vegetable mandolins...don't ask me how I know!!!😟 great restoration. Greetings from the UK.
Excellent restoration, Rusty! Fascinating to watch you restoring things. I've never heard of or seen a cabbage slicer before; I usually shred mine with a ruddy great kitchen knife; lol. Think I kinda like my way best, but it's a pleasure to see old things restored.
The Tool is referred to as a "Specialize Mandolin". It's used in most every "Kitchen" when You want to Prepare a "Gourmet Meal". Sincerely Yours 🤠 Mr Severance, "The Cake 😋 🍰🎂 🥳🎉 🎊 Man".
I never saw a taser deruster before but it looks awesome!! Nice job,i can use one of these slicing machines today but i doubt they even make them anymore.
Lovely restoration! But seriously consider wearing a "cut proof glove" when using it, if you aren't going to craft some type of hand guard. Those are FAR cheaper than stitches, and the pain of finger injuries. Ol' Vrghr always wears one when using the mandolin.
Thank you! You are right, and I will buy a pair of cut-proof gloves. Unfortunately, at that moment, I didn't have any, but I was meticulous, and things went well. Now I'm thinking how many risks people had back in the early 1900s using such devices daily...
Thank you, Ghoul! Yeah, I should make some kind of pusher. I was very curious about how it works and didn't consider it a must for the test only. My fingers are all in their place 😅
The laser was very, very cool! The whole project turned out gorgeous, as usual! I love watching your channel ...I did curl into a small ball and only watch through my fingers when you started to really put some muscle into slicing the cabbage - that was terrifying. Mandolins are notorious for their thirst for blood, and fingers
Thank you for reposting this ,,,I love watching you bring stuff back to life I think you can fix anything ,,,I'd love to have this old slicer to use in my kitchen I think the old things are fun to have & use
I don't know why this video did not perform as the others but I admire a lot your work and this item is no different. Great job as usual. Thank you and keep up the amazing work 👍 and please, use a protection, like a handler or something when using this slicer to avoid accidents . Stay safe 😉
Thank you, Rick. This one didn't have any holder or any kind of protection. It is may one of the most dangerous kitchen gadgets invented that I have ever seen.
I love all your restorations and seeing the beautiful work you do. Some bring back memories of gadgets my mom had and some me, many my grandmother. Missed this one, my daughter had two teeth extracted so I was a bit busy… but try to catch up, like today Some of your equipment must cost a fortune. This is the first time I’ve seen you use a light saber. Lol🇺🇸
I think it's great when I see old, broken things given a new life. Unfortunately, things are thrown away far too quickly because they are old and defective, although so many things can be repaired and restored, which is an incredible shame.
Thank you, Jamal. This project took me almost one week; some were faster, some longer. For example, the vintage scooter that I restored took me one entire month.
К этому устройству должна быть ещё одна вещь, как минимум держалка для, продукта. Иначе можно жутко порезать пальцы, особенно если увлечься. Будьте осторожны!

I have been extensively researching laser machines as an additional option to my sandblasting business. It was interesting to see you use a CW laser on wood. It was my understanding that wood required the use of a pulse laser to prevent burning. Is it the same technique as sandblasting in that I have to keep moving or I will blast a hole in the surface? Keep the laser moving and it won't burn the wood? TIA
Hi! Yes, low power and frequency, plus moving faster. That's the secret, but nobody can guarantee you won't mess it up. I always have a test piece close to me.
Thank you for the quick reply. I am struggling to find a reason not to purchase one. I need to work through the power source as I would be offering a mobile service, but that shouldn't be too difficult. @@rustyshadesrestoration
and this is where the youtube carrer died with 4 fingers cutoff in showing the latest restoration in kitchen supplys the all mighty Cabage sliscer becase it wanted more then cabage!
Thank you! The blade is perfect. My hesitation and adjustments were "blunt". I didn't use such a device before. If you pay attention, at some point, I'm getting the move and cuts highly smooth.
@@rustyshadesrestoration Oh, that's understandable. I wasn't very confident while using that for the first time too. Do you own this laser? It's so satisfying to watch it in action 😁
The laser cleans only, but if you want a smooth finish on old wood, fine-grit sanding is a must. When it comes to metal, after cleaning it with the Lazer, tiny particles are on the surface, like dust and needs a superficial cleaning before painting or plating. That's a super fast process compared with sanding or removing rust traditionally. I understand what you think because you maybe didn't Lazer smtg before, but now you know. I had them cleaned in about 15 minutes. If I have to sand all the dirt (especially on the edges and curves) and sandblast the rust probably will take me 4 to 5 hours. So, yeah, that's not at all a time lost, but it is a huge gain for me because I can do smth else with that time. 😉
Hi Diane, both are satisfactory in their way but it depends on what I clean with. Wait to see it in action on much bigger pieces with paint on them... 🙂
